Verified this morning upon encountering the viper. It was dozing on the first little ridge towards Jelenkamen, right next to the trail.

Believe it or not, snakes sleep with their eyes open because they have no eyelids. Even though they can't close their eyelids, they can 'hrrr', 'hrrr', since their brains play the main role in sleep. Instead of eyelids, they use a transparent membrane for protection and to prevent their eyes from drying out, which they shed like the rest of their skin. But how do we know when a snake is awake and when it surrenders to sleep? If it is completely still, then probably dozing, but it might just be resting. ... Močeradi had a race today on Jelenkamen, they were climbing everywhere, I counted 19 of them. Praise to PD Jesenice, they fixed the lower part of the most difficult section of the path. nasmeh

- The lower part of the path is also equipped, even three new bolts are installed

... Nice start of the day. Even the Ukova stream allowed crossing the water over larger stones. The rustling leaves underfoot have mostly already lost their nice color, but the enjoyment was splendid. Walking through the forest with a view of the colorfully colored Mežakla and trees along the path.. nasmeh

Franci and Janko are tireless. Also Hasan and Uroš, friends of Jelenkamen. The works are difficult, but progressing nicely. Lots of good will and strength will be invested in this little bridge and access to it, for the good of all us users.... They are amazed by the large number of walkers of all ages across the Ukova stream. nasmeh

...Fire above Kalvarija....

Last night I watched in horror through the window how it was burning under Jelenkamen. Sadly this happens too. Probably a carelessly discarded cigarette butt, dry leaves and fire is inevitable. In the morning when Ira and I went to inspect, the fire guard was monitoring the terrain. The burn site is right by the trail, just before it turns into the forest. Lucky there's a little spring with water a bit lower. What would we do without these brave guys who are always there when we need them.
