Toll booths on Vršič and in Vrata

Hello!

It saddens me that from one comment that was obviously misunderstood such a debate develops and due to some being offended and others lecturing I feel obliged to explain what I meant. If I offended anyone, I apologize, but that was not my intention. First about tourists: I am also a tourist and whenever I go on vacation, especially to foreign countries, I behave respectfully there and try to respect their culture, rules and customs. However, I notice that today there are too many arrogant people who do whatever they feel like. Maybe I did use a harsh word in the previous post, but how can one not be angry at people who behave as if everything is theirs? Due to their inappropriate behavior (here I mainly mean not respecting the parking regime) we all suffer. I have also found myself in a situation where I was left without a parking space, but that does not mean I will leave the car in the middle of the road just to stretch my legs and satisfy my curiosity on the pass. In my opinion a serious hiker arrives early (unless of course planning an afternoon tour after work etc.) and leaves the car in a suitable place because he knows he will not return in half an hour and drive on and expects everything to be in perfect order upon return. A good example for me is Logarska dolina where they decided that for those who arrive early enough to park (usually mountain visitors) entry is free; for all others who arrive later parking is paid. So the wolf is fed and the goat is whole. Finally regarding my early arrival: I cannot believe that bothered some. I arrived so early for two reasons: the first was that I had a long tour planned that day; I had to return to the car by 14h. The tour was: Mojstrovke ridge, R. v. Dnine all the way to the end of Šit, descent into the valley, ascent to Lopa and back down and to Vršič. Whoever knows this route knows it is not easy! In addition, despite the sunny forecast dark clouds regularly gathered in the sky and for a moment just below the summit of Lopa a few drops surprised me which fortunately did not stay. Therefore do not judge if you do not know the details; at the same time I ask you this: what is more appropriate in summer, to start early or start late in the afternoon when some storm may appear? Too many times I have witnessed inexperienced people who, when I was already returning to the car, were setting off into the mountains while a storm was already brewing in the sky. As the second reason for early arrival, I knew if I did not come early to Vršič I simply would not get a parking space and how right I was!

Lp and safe step to all further!

Use public transport; in the evening by bus to Vršič, sleep in the hut and at 2:00 you can already start.

Granny, no thanks. We know what public transport is like in our poor country, plus I have neither the time nor the money to afford that as well.
Maybe for others this represents a solution, but I don't visit huts unless it's really necessary.

For one of the huts on Vršič I read last year that smelly prešvican hikers are apparently not welcome, because we drive away the "real" tourists... A note from a person who was doing the traverse.

Horror really. This reminds me of the statement by the Bled tourism management from 2017, when they said that we Slovenians are not welcome at Bled. But this is right, that foreigners use our bivouacs as free accommodation.

I liked that one better, that the Bled locals should swim in the lake in winter when there are no tourists velik nasmeh

Then you can get to Zadnjica without a problem? I'm going up early tomorrow, so there won't be unnecessary panic 🙃

I went by bike yesterday over Vršič - the barriers are raised on both sides and no one is charging there.

n3jc thanks for the update. Who knows how long it will be like this? Is it even possible, can one park at the top of the pass?

@Lisac
It's always fascinating to me how we search for information until we get one that suits us. The most banal example is the weather forecast, where we browse various portals until we find one that offers an acceptable forecast for a certain day, regardless of the fact that 8 other portals gave a forecast that doesn't suit us.
For about a month the media has been reporting that this year parking at the top won't be possible because they will arrange the parking lot and the barriers will be raised. Maybe they finish earlier so parking is possible by end of season, but that's not planned.
You can leave the car at Erjavčeva hut for 1 euro per hour or 10 euros per day.
Or go from Kr. Gore or Bovec with the free bus already at 4.30 when the first one leaves.
Or act like a Frenchman and leave the car by the road, ignoring all warnings and traffic signs.
Sorry for the slightly sarcastic reply, but there really is a lot of information, also on this portal, you just have to find it.
Safe steps.

"You can leave the car at Erjavčeva hut for 1 euro per hour or 10 euros per day."

Last time I parked there (once last year), I paid more than 10 EUR for about 8 hours. So it seems they raised the prices.

It's said that some foreigner before arriving on vacation in SLO inquired how things stand with parking at mountain trailheads inside TNP and elsewhere. He got a clear and precise answer: "You can park wherever you like, just not where it's prohibited. All parking areas and mountain roads are free, except where payment is required". That's what they say is being said . . .

Turbo:
Mr. Siniša is basically right. But I wonder what good he has done on Vršič, 1/2 of it is in the municipality of Bovec, as mayor, as a long-time MP in RS and in some other position????
I really just wonder that and I don't care which political group he comes from.
I would say to Mujo- "Jak na rečima".

The border between the municipality of Kranjska Gora and the municipality of Bovec is a few hundred meters lower (south) on the road that leads towards Bovec. The entire Vršič with all former, future and current parking lots in question belongs to the municipality of Kranjska Gora, so probably the mayor of Bovec not only cannot, but also may not regulate matters outside his municipality.

If I look at the picture there are at least 50 parking spaces at Tičarjev dom. But I don't know since when? Lp.
