Toll booths on Vršič and in Vrata

What do you suggest then? Boycott Gorenjska as a thieving destination for mountaineers? And boycott PZS because it supports the scammers? Great idea. In three years all paths will be overgrown and we will only be able to hike on forest roads.

Every period brings a different level of accessibility of certain goods. In old Yugoslavia travel to distant destinations was difficult to access, foreign brand cars mostly unattainable. Building a house was affordable to anyone compared to today's conditions. Once hiking in mountains was accessible practically to everyone, today it is becoming a luxury. But for that reason mobile phones and applications are accessible, it is possible to get 1 TV set in every room of the apartment (in the time of Yugoslavia 1 phone and 1 TV set per village). Man is an adaptable being, so I am not afraid that he would not be able to manage the transition from physical mountain feats to mobile screens and Garmins.

The solution regarding PZS would be that enough people engage and replace the leadership. Only because the leadership is not elected directly, this is very hard to implement. That they elected Martin Šolar as president is a catastrophe.

Also in the Dolomites they are preparing parking restrictions or payment. For Passo Sella they already planned it for this year, Passo Pordoi has paid parking, you can still park along the road (last year). On the South Tyrolean side of the Dolomites they already charge heavily (Sexten for example). So even with our neighbors not everything is free. I see the problem of overload in our mountains in the fact that tourist accommodations multiply like mushrooms after the rain. If I don't go to KG for 1 month, on my next visit I will surely be greeted by a new additional apartment building which further contributes to visits to our mountains😀. But if our path takes us to Carnia (Claut, Cimolais, Timau,…), it is hard to find accommodation because there are few, practically no hotels, but the mountain paths are lonely. I think the problem is not PZS policy but mass tourism and daily praises of how fully booked the rooms in Bohinj, KG,… are. Guests of these accommodations come to these places to crawl on the mountains🫤.

I have anyway been boycotting Gorenjska for a couple of years, it's a pity only that this disease is spreading... That the paths would overgrow with a boycott of the useless PZS is anyway the tendency of TNP which wants to preserve the original appearance also in areas where there is not even a P of park. That this will not happen is taken care of by the hordes of tourists so desired by you, who nicely ensure the filling of hut capacities.

Question posed to artificial intelligence 1: "Please calculate the costs of a two-day visit to Kriški podi, if I live in Koper. Take into account that I drive to the paid parking lot at the beginning of the Zadnjica valley with a car that consumes 6.1 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km. I already have the vignette purchased. Take into account one overnight stay in Pogačnik's hut on Kriški podi for a family of 4, who treats themselves to one dinner. Child's age 15 years. All family members are PZS members (thus discount in the hut). Additionally, also take into account the purchase of food for the trail and one lunch in Bovec on the way back home." Answer from artificial intelligence 1 (I am publishing only the summary of total costs): "Realistic cost range from 280-360 EUR" Question posed to artificial intelligence 2: "Do the same calculation for me, without taking into account that all family members are PZS members (thus without taking into account the discount on overnight stay in the hut)." Answer from artificial intelligence 2 (I am publishing only the summary of total costs): "Realistic cost range from 330-410 EUR" In short, not little.

Sigmundfreund, half board in Italian and Austrian huts (up to approx. 2,500 m) is between 50 and 70 €. I think it's similar at Kriški podi. So prices are more or less the same in all three countries. The only question is what you get for that price where. In Austrian huts, based on my experiences, the services are more or less the same (very solid), which I can't say for the Slovenian ones. Some are excellent, but some are bottom of the barrel. The same applies to the wardens. Italy is big and diverse, so are the huts, but mainly I have good experiences. The differences are with the wardens though. At ours they mostly don't even know exactly under which mountain range they are located, let alone be able to give any advice. Maybe I'm unlucky that lately I've visited only such in Slovenia. In short, prices at ours are the same as at the neighbors. But specifically Italy in our vicinity has plenty of tours where you meet a couple of hikers all day, the paths are well marked, and parking is free.

In general, although I am a big mountain lover, I personally assess that today the Slovenian Julian Alps no longer return what I financially invest in them. There are other, equally attractive alternatives at more reasonable prices. Fortunately, I am a representative of a generation that still managed to catch some other times, when we could enjoy them thoroughly in still acceptable traffic-logistical, economic and prohibitive as well as obligational circumstances.

Article full of praise for free transport to Vrata, but you also find out that there will be even smaller seat capacity on buses and vans. Namely, from now on up to half of the seats are payable. And the date is interesting to me...the bus starts running on Monday 15.6. It won't run on Saturday and Sunday before that yet.

@Trobec- written one page back "Even free buses become payable after a season or two " and the same will happen with Vršič and other future "free" buses, with the fact that they will also rip you off with parking at the entry station..

Hello, I'm passing on relatively good news that I heard this morning on the radio, regarding parking on Vršič this season and clarifying some uncertainties that have been bothering us so far. The matter is as follows: there will be no new parking lots this year, as was said before, but the existing parking lots can be used free of charge, on a first-come, first-served basis... So this year the right barrier (the one for parking) on Vršič will be down, the other one for transit (left) will be up all the time (open). So more simply put: one barrier will be up all the time and the passage over Vršič will be open. Parking will still be free, at the existing parking lots, once the parking lots are full, it will simply no longer be possible to park. During the peak season, police and wardens will also be up there to maintain order. That's it. I hope I was of some help. Safe steps to all going forward and lp!

But the only parking lot that at least somewhat brings you closer to the starting point, at Erjavčeva hut, has been paid for several years now, so only the lower-lying parking lots will be free. However, a free bus is already in operation, which runs between Kr. Gora and Bovec and back, for now on Saturdays-Sundays-holidays, from the end of June to the end of August every day from 4:30 onwards.

Aren't a couple of spots left right at the top? Or is that what they couldn't fix due to "abundant winter" and "sabotages" by mountaineers who left cars up there?

Vitan, thank you very much for the transit information, so I don't get caught there in front of the barriers.

How about parking at Erjavčeva koča now (is it paid?) and how will it be next year?

At Erjavčeva hut it was already chargeable last year.

I guess for Vršič you'll need a parking ticket and if you go for transit you won't get it. Wardens! Like in the city, if you don't pay they give you a notice

Today's info: One barrier is for free passage over the pass and parking at arranged parking areas below the very top of the pass, i.e. at mountain huts (e.g. at Erjavčeva hut where parking is paid). But how will the automatic barrier know you were e.g. at Mihov dom for lunch and not in transit? Really not clear to me, since for transit there should be a time frame! Does anyone know?
