Toll booths on Vršič and in Vrata

Pero 24, well here it's not just about Vršič. The whole alpine world is being shaped/prepared to the measures of a tourist who is on vacation and has different needs than you and all of us who read this and like going to the hills either during the week or on weekends. There will be even more barriers, Krma, Kot, also for Pokljuka it's not said they won't start counting cars (in other words entrance fee ) and there are other starting points they will close (charge) for access... All under the pretext of ensuring safety and calming traffic. I've been yelling about this here for 10 years already. Traffic can also be calmed without us paying heavily for it. Also free buses become paid after a season or two But that just doesn't work in our beautiful little country... quantum physics for municipal officials or just greed (choose the answer yourself)

Common practice abroad. In the Pyrenees in three weeks I didn't drive by car to the starting point even once. You're all complaining because they're supposedly "closing" you and "taking" something from you. If you have a bus from KG at 3:30 you can practically do any tour from Vršič.

sebo306 ....of course, in KG 1h parking is 4€ and when you finish the tour around Vršič some 3 buses pass by, because they don't stop due to occupancy ...calculate your bill and free bus. For a long time I've been convinced that they are only in it for the profit PIKA

Getting to “pol4” in Kranjska Gora from Štajerska is mission impossible! And he found exactly the Pyrenees. All traffic, including noisy motorcyclists, will flow smoothly over Vršič, only those who would like to drive close to the peaks are the most annoying. I suggest they also make a third barrier for the privileged so they won't accidentally stand in line when the people are confused in front of the first two.

Yes, really. And what to do when the pass is full?

Yes then instead of expanding capacities you reduce available spots from about 360 to 95 and raise the fine for improper parking.

I only wrote that I agree Vršič should be closed or restricted for parking. And no, I'm not some big shot. I agree the parking for 4€ per hour is too expensive and there must be enough buses. I'd gladly pay 10-15€ if my car is parked in KG all day and a bus takes me to Vršič. Not more though, I agree with that. And yes, I agree that decision makers look too much at money and not logic. But I think someone who finds the current situation on the pass OK has something wrong with him. When you go see Tri Cime or GG though, no problem paying 50€ toll.

I would like to remind you that the price for GG strasse is 46 EUR for 48 km of road, or 14 toll km from Heiligenblut if we go to Franz-Josefs-Höhe; if going from the northern side it is 35 km of toll km to Franz-Josefs-Höhe. For those 46 EUR you can go to the hills for a whole week or more, the car is parked in the garage. For a 2-3 day tour the parking in KG is 60 EUR, the car is scorched by the sun, or hail falls on it. In 2025, after 35 years, I started boycotting the Vrat valley and the mountains above it; from this year onwards I will not be in the mountains around Vršič. On my mountaineering path I have explored almost every corner of the Julian Alps. I hoped that my daughters, who are now old enough to go on trips to the Alps, would see something too. For now they won't, because Slovenia no longer deserves it, we would rather go to Italy and Austria, or to KSA. Vanja Starčević, Zagreb

My god. Did I by chance write somewhere that the parking lot in KG is arranged and has the right prices? Anyway I agree that it shouldn't be too expensive. But if you boycott certain hills no one will care, quite the opposite

3 peaks...eh, a common "argument" especially among those who don't know the matter over there... Hikers don't drive much on the road to Auronzo hut, mostly tourists going for short walks. Anyway, parking in the Dolomites is mostly free. Same with most passes. Giau, Falzarego, 3 crosses, data from last year - free. I think there's no need to emphasize that they are all specifically higher than Vršič

Add to the listed also the passes Pordoi, San Pellegrino, Tonale, Duran, Valparolla, Staulanza and Fedaia so I don't list further. Everywhere the parking area and traffic are more than here. Our PZS still supports this gang of usurers... We will be the first to boycott these, since I get nothing from them.

Some of us already abandoned the Julian Alps a few years ago because of the increasingly complicated system of visits, rules and restrictions at every step and also rip-offs. Basically, if you want for example from Koper to Prisank and back, almost as extensive logistics organization is needed as for an expedition to Karakoram. Not to mention the financial, even more the time investment. Theoretically required time: 1 hour to Nova Gorica + min. 2 hours on the “demanding” road to Trenta + 1/2 hour waiting for the bus + 1/2 hour driving with bus to Vršič + ascent and return from the tour + 1/2 hour waiting for bus + 1/2 hour driving with bus back to Trenta + min. 3 hours home. Just the (tiring) drive with bus transfers takes 8 hours. If we add the ascent and descent (approx. 6.5 h), we get to 14.5 h. This already requires in addition to transport costs, paying possible parking fees (and finding a legal parking spot), additional activities for organizing overnight stay and quite substantial overnight costs. For those of us who live a bit further from the mountain starting points, due to the forcing of so-called “sustainable measures” the Julian Alps almost no longer come into consideration. It is simpler and faster (better traffic connections) and cheaper (in many places there are no parking fees, but there are well-arranged parking lots) to step on some peak in the Dolomites.

On both sides of the pass a fence is erected like in the picture I'm attaching. From the valley to the top on both sides of the road where you could otherwise park. Where they designate parking spots they mark them and put a parking meter. That's it. It says the fine for parking without a ticket is 100€ and adds a warning that warden controls are frequent. No barriers, just a board on both sides in the valley showing how many free parking spots there are and where. If it's all full you can drive up without hesitation and hope a spot frees up; you can't park incorrectly anyway because there's a fence by the road - or turn somewhere and go back or drive further to the other side. Simple as that. In Kranjska Gora a "spider" on standby that immediately drives up if someone leaves a car in the middle of the road and a high fine.
