If we already had to prohibit this passage to someone, it should be to large buses! I experienced this myself years ago, when the driver went to put chains under the wheels so that he could drive around the bend!

Yes, that's interesting... it's about a state transit road and not a tourist panoramic road, yet they want to limit personal transit traffic (personal vehicles and campers), on the other hand they encourage tourist bus traffic, which barely makes it around the curves.

let me add this too: today I noticed that everything is already asphalted, well one parking lot, I'd say it's not the biggest though, just marked parking spots with concrete in the macadam.
Another bigger blunder how it was done on Vršič. Curbs laid, asphalt too, now behind these curbs they're digging some quite deep trench, probably wisely figured that drainage needs sorting. But of course the curbs have already come loose from the concrete because they're undermined. Probably the last rain surprised them with the amount of water, just like the March snow at 1500 m and they couldn't start construction work.

If this day ends in a terrible accident, it's a problem of a completely different dimension than a bill for 20 EUR, a traffic jam, or lack of parking space. It makes no sense to delve into articles about who is to blame; that doesn't change who brought the injury home. It could have been one of us. Great pity.

This is of course a job for the police, prosecution, judiciary...but one fact remains, if there was no barrier, this wouldn't have happened...

With this I meant that it makes no sense to play internet detectives and nitpick with technicalities, like if someone drove carelessly. If in such a short time after opening three people already got hit by the barriers, then action needs to be taken before there are even more injuries. Given that they don't even charge yet, I hope they temporarily raise them, so there won't be more accidents.
I'm a cyclist. For hikers the barriers are a nuisance that affects the execution of the trip (whether we can park and how cheap - a luxury), but for cyclists this represents an additional risk (whether something unexpected will hit us) for injuries or death. There are already enough risks anyway ...
I'm trying to put myself in the shoes of someone going on the traditional autumn Mangart loop or Vršič swing. You can't expect people to be aware that the road is suddenly closed with a barrier - after all even I don't know anymore how it is where with this, and I regularly go to the mountains. And then you're attentive to everything else, traffic etc., and the barrier hits you. I don't know if now it's not marked enough or opens too late, or the passage is too narrow, or maybe "everything is fine", but the sample is too big for there to be a real possibility that everything is set up optimally.
I didn't expect that the annoying parking fee topic would take such a dark turn.

When leaving the parking lot, drive very slowly in front of the barrier so it opens.
Cyclists will never get this because they live in a parallel world. They behave the same way in all normal traffic too. They are simply convinced that they are something more.

On Friday I went on a tour by car from Zadnja Trenta to Trenta around 14h, where I was waiting in line for the descent, waiting for the barrier to be raised. The same for every car. When, due to a lot of traffic, I was approaching very slowly, cyclists started overtaking me on my right, and when the barrier was raised for me, I had to wait in between so I wouldn't run over anyone; they passed on both sides of the car. In the meantime it started lowering, and with just luck I managed so that it didn't hit the roof. That's my experience. Best regards

In July 2008 a serious accident happened on the gravel road between Planica and Tamar. A 16-year-old cyclist overlooked the green barrier blocking car access while descending and died in the fatal collision.
• Soon after the accident the authorities permanently removed this dangerous barrier.
• The event triggered years of court proceedings in which the Municipality of Kranjska Gora and the Ski Association of Slovenia were found liable due to poor visibility and inadequate marking of the obstacle.

Julius, I agree, many of them are speeding wildly. But nowadays the system should try to "reduce the damage" even in such cases, not create additional dangers. Like guardrails for motorcyclists. Today almost every curve has a guardrail (sheet metal) down to the ground, because in the past a motorcyclist stepped on a post and got cut in half. The authorities decided to reduce the chance of that happening again. Even though in most falls the motorcyclists themselves are to blame.

As far as I know, in some old times they went on tours on foot from Kr. Gore, on foot from Mojstrana to Vrata.
The Vršič matter should be a problem for those "who go on trips and get up at 8am and for those who carry a backpack with them, ... "not for serious mountaineers, whoever finds themselves under that title.
Vršič is overloaded with traffic, the peaks above it are also overloaded. If it's a pleasure for a "serious mountaineer" to stand in line on the ridge or on a cable, then it's already questionable who is a serious mountaineer.
No offense. Slovenia has so many wonderful peaks, apparently climbing some relatively unknown peak, even if comparable to the peaks above Vršič, doesn't count enough for a visit.
