Toll booths on Vršič and in Vrata

In general, of course I agree with some. This year the situation has gone completely crazy. Vrata were more or less destroyed already last year, they managed to destroy Vršič this year, at the same time we read news about completely disproportionate fines that can push a person into serious financial distress, because - hm - parking in a place that a policeman arbitrarily assesses as natural environment. Oh, and that boasting about a 500 euro fine for sleeping outdoors in Gorenjska municipalities is also grotesque. In other words, beautiful nature, tours, routes and similar are practically no longer discussed, the focus is solely and only on rip-off. And here I think the matter is completely clear. PZS should FINALLY speak up. It is a professional organization that should defend the interests of visitors to the mountain world, but one gets the feeling that this dynamic suits it. Of course, Šolar was just elected, so one could say that it is now free to talk, where were we mountaineers when the elections were taking place. On the other hand, it is a rather indirect system of delegate elections, where the mass of mountaineers can hardly change the result.

I don't know, all the things I wrote were seen in practice this year. And no, they weren't just foreigners. I don't know exactly what kind of unrest is in us that we do this. Sitting in tight rows (approx. 100 people in a small space) by the Soča is at least for me a very unpleasant experience. And why wasn't this the case when twenty years ago we did the same regarding visiting mountains? Local Pohorje has remained without a mountain hut (exception is Kremžarca, which still holds on for now...), everything else is some quasi-modern cretinism, where (foreign) innkeepers serve 'capital', only mountaineers are shunned. Someone should cut through this, and it will be better. There are thousands of places where pole-users (like @bagi) can do what is obviously their life mission. And where capitalism can continue its destructive path. But these are certainly not the mountains and hills.

As far as sleeping in the open is concerned, I am surprised that the locals do not resist more, when "lovers of pristine nature" dirty their meadows and forests. Namely human excrement with toilet paper, packaging,... already from afar show where the "nature lovers" parked and spent the night. As far as I know, the residents accepted this grotesque punishment with approval.

However, Slovenian tourist organizations are already boasting about how much greater the tourist numbers were this year in Bovec, Bohinj,... And no one spoke up that this means a worse quality of life for locals and that only certain individuals are lining their pockets with mass tourism. Especially since in recent days there has been so much talk about GDP, tourism contributes very little to its growth. Then everything went quiet

Jeseniške novice... Parking at the top of the Vršič pass will be enabled from September 1, 2026 The Infrastructure Directorate together with the municipalities of Kranjska Gora and Bovec is introducing a new traffic regulation on the Vršič pass, the aim of which is a safer and more orderly visit to the area, greater traffic flow and better protection of the sensitive natural environment, especially during the tourist season. From September 1, 2026, new parking spaces will be available to visitors at the top of the pass, arranged as part of the reconstruction of the Vršič road. Parking will be free until the end of 2026. Final construction work will continue until the end of September 2026, and traffic across the pass will run smoothly at all times. In the area of the top of the pass, the following will be arranged: 80 parking spaces for passenger vehicles, three parking spaces for disabled persons, 24 parking spaces for motorcycles, two parking spaces for buses and eight spaces for short-term stopping of passenger vehicles (up to 15 minutes). The occupancy of parking lots will be shown to drivers on traffic signs before the barriers on the Kranjska Gora and Trenta sides, which will allow timely selection of the traffic lane. The occupancy display refers exclusively to public parking lots at the top of the pass and does not include parking lots at private mountain huts. Two traffic lanes From September 1, a barrier system will also start operating, which will allow orderly access to the area at the top of the pass. The barriers are placed on the Kranjska Gora side behind Lake Jasna and on the Trenta side before the turnoff for the Soča spring. Before the barriers, the road widens to two traffic lanes. The right traffic lane is intended for visitors who wish to park at the top of the pass. At the barrier, they will receive a parking ticket, and entry will be allowed only as long as free parking spaces are available. Their occupancy will be continuously displayed on the LED display. The left traffic lane is intended for all other users who will continue across the pass or to other arranged parking lots and destinations along the Vršič road. Turnaround Before the barriers on both sides of the pass, a turnaround is arranged, which will allow drivers to safely change direction when the parking lots at the top are fully occupied or a longer queue forms in the right traffic lane. If the queue for parking extends to the point where the right lane separates from the main traffic lane, new vehicles will not be allowed to stop in the left transit lane. In this case, drivers will be able to use the turnaround or continue driving across the pass without the possibility of parking at the top. User assistance On weekends, attendants will be present at the barriers and at the top of the pass to help users with the new system and participate in traffic management.

With this they won't solve anything because they'll go for transit and park on the road, already seen multiple times. If they hand out fines people have their lawyers and will challenge the fines. But people should once understand, if there's no space there isn't

If the transit time is limited (?), what happens if the driver parks at other parking lots - for example at Erjavčeva and pays the parking fee there? Does anyone know?

Well, transit can't be restricted. You won't have anywhere to stop if they start putting up fences along the road.

Ljubiteljgora, yes, people will one day have to understand, if there's no payment, there isn't one. Example of the Mangart road. When there are 90 vehicles at the top, vehicle passage is no longer possible. What was before this measure was already dangerous. It is possible to leave the car at the barrier and walk to the starting point for Mangart. For the climb to the summit, you then need approx. 4 hours of moderate walking. In some old times, when there was still macadam on this road and few personal cars, this was something usual.

Majda: "At the barrier they will take the parking ticket"... Maybe you know, is parking also paid there?

j... until the end of the year it will be free, then they will notify where to pay.

Thanks, Majda! It's all a bit unclear to me. If you pay below and in the meantime look at e.g. the memorial park, and the Russian chapel etc., the parking lot at the top is still waiting for you and for how long? And vice versa, you take a ticket, try to pay at the saddle, but there's no free parking space. We'll see how they've figured this out.

When you take a ticket, it will count that you occupied one parking space and you should wait for that until you leave the area behind the barriers (you will surely also pay for all that time). If there are no more free spaces, you will not be able to get a parking ticket. I don't know if there will be a barrier also at the parking lot on the pass. Otherwise, it will surely happen that tourists without parking tickets will park there and occupy spaces for those with parking tickets.

And if I want to park before the bridge (so a bit after the barriers) and go to the hut in Krnica? Does anyone understand how this will be implemented?

In this case you go to the left lane, which is also intended for transit. I quote from the article above: "The left traffic lane is intended for all other users who will continue their journey over the pass or to other arranged parking lots and destinations along the Vršič road." We can only hope that no one decides it would be good to put up a fence at this spot, as they have already done elsewhere on this road.

They have the option to drill a tunnel. The question is when? By then probably more of us won't be here. I heard on the radio when they were discussing it.

Vršič is interesting. What do I need the tunnel for?

Probably because of winters, when the road is closed due to snow.

I fully support regulation (barriers, parking fees). I don't mind waiting for the bus, e.g. at p+r in Kr Gora. In fact, I'm even glad I have that option. The way up around 5h bp. When we were driving back from Vršič towards Kr Gora at 13h, it was a disaster (too many campers, cars), so the bus couldn't even make the turns without the driver getting out of the bus and asking people to reverse. And people didn't want to go back, they just stared like a bull at a new gate. So the bus had to reverse in the turn on the slope so the campers could go forward? Chaos. Then personal vehicles wanted to overtake our bus too and created even more mess on an already narrow road. Personally, I think we should not only limit the number of parking spaces in the area, but also ban larger vehicles from passing and limit the number of cars in a certain interval that are just crossing the pass, and increase the number of perhaps slightly smaller buses that would drive more easily on the road. Totally for things starting to get organized. What is now allows stressful situations for everyone, completely unnecessarily. Lp!
