No problem, but socks will be wet if you reach the top 'from the back side'

Yesterday on New Year's tour to Little and Great Mojstrovka . We said the tour must be snowy, as befits such a day. Morning weather on Vršič promised a nice day, but then it started drizzling, so there was no nice view of Triglav, Jalovec and Mangart. On Great Mojstrovka a couple of snowflakes danced, which spiced up the tour and made it more New Year's . We returned by continuing along the ridge path to Zadnja Mojstrovka and left it where it was already trampled down. Here the snow base was hard, footprints too. Whereas we met hikers before, on this path we were completely alone. Right here nice views opened, especially nicely lit towards Prisojnik. That the tour was nice, we agreed unanimously, likewise that it needs to be repeated soon.

Ooo, we met. We two are even on one pic Well, let me add my description too... Mojstrovkas "at grandpa's pace day" Or, when a nice group spending New Year's holidays in Trenta reduces to 2 members for a bit more serious hike. Otherwise, the weather wasn't perfect either. Little snow. On Vršič barely any. Higher up "not much better". Already before the saddle two (I assume) alpinists were complaining about the too bare Zupančičeva gully. Well, we're not heading there. Maybe even grumpier were 3 girls at the junction for Šitna glava: "this is Špička, right?". Since I didn't get the question at first, I joked "yes, yes, here you go over 2000, and even easier than to Mojstrovka summit". "Isn't Špička 1900-something?". Then it clicked for me: "no, not here... completely different path already from Vršič. But you'll see it from up here". A bit higher up even more people. Also an acquaintance who recently joined the alpinists and he too with his climbing partner from Zupančičeva gully. Towards the top the snow gets harder and using crampons very sensible. Below summit of Little Mojstrovka quite windy. Just for some pics and book entry, and even fingers a bit frozen. Since we were a bit faster than planned, we jumped to Great Mojstrovka too. Here conditions much friendlier. Almost complete calm. And everywhere quite trampled. Followed descent and then slowly preparations for New Year's Eve

The stamp marks the height of Great Mojstrovka. Triangular stamp of Little Mojstrovka 2332m in Tičar hut on Vršič. Ask at the counter. No stamp on Great Mojstrovka.

Thanks for the reply Tiger. I also thought of that option, but when I checked the height of VM, it is 2366m , so something doesn't add up here

Yesterday I think the only one without "transport" means, not the only pedestrian on the ascent (locally "stony" base - thanks for the track). On late ascent on wet slide "yodeling" of down-turning enjoyers. Sinks over the knee too. Further up base more compact but no crampons put on. Our group at 11:00 just missed the nicest opening of views on Mali Mojstrovka. Hear drumming of rare slides further into the valley. From saddle down where snow already quite heavy also some stone projectile so caution and gear on head. Vršič before lunch crowded by short-pants Dutch, fast bikers and tireless cyclists

In search of nice weather and new snow yesterday I headed to Mojstrovka. Morning was quite fresh and such cold wind that at the car I put on everything I had. Well, I stepped into the steep slope and soon warmed up. At the start of the steep below Grebenc new snow appeared. I thought of ascent through Pripravniška gully and since there were no tracks toward the gully, I went to check. Didn't go far, snow didn't seem reliable and some avalanche debris from the slope between Mojstrovka and Šitna glava made me think conditions in the gully probably not the best. So I turned and continued toward Grebenc. On the ridge wind blew stronger again and on the way to the top occasionally blew snow in my face. Otherwise I hoped the snow would still be untouched, but someone had been up before me. Well, the pleasure was no less, especially since I went a bit my own way. At the top of Mala Mojstrovka I paused a bit and looked around. Peaks toward south and east were more in clouds, but the view toward Mangart, Jalovec and other peaks to the west was almost completely clear. The untouched whiteness of Velika Mojstrovka tempted me, although from afar it was already visible that it was quite snowy. I crossed a bit below the ridge and at first it was still okay, the snow there was windblown and there wasn't much of it. But when I reached under the start of the wall, wind slabs started appearing and what kind! Twice I broke through over the waist, barely got out. When it happened to me a third time, I had to admit that it wouldn't work like that and return. I was a bit sorry for the summit, but I think it was no longer safe overall, as the snow had also become very wet and on the return almost every step sent clumps rolling down. When returning below Grebenc back to the start, everything was already melting, the new snow there had almost melted. At Vršič a real anthill – cars, campers, motorcyclists, cyclists and more. Obviously not only calendar summer has started, but also the tourist season. At Lake Jasna it was almost impossible to find a parking spot. So on the return I had to settle for just a short stop at the Russian chapel and a passing glance at Ajdovska girl. Well, despite one single summit it was still a nice day.

Colleague on Tuesday (25.06.19) Copying her words: About 3 m below needs to be bypassed, only 2 steps are problematic in my opinion, the rest no longer. Folk there has some troubles. Although it might be better today already. good luck
