You're right, lijaneja, I exaggerated a bit. It's not that close, but not very far either, and not strenuous - at least going there

In my opinion, starting points for multi-day tours should have larger parking lots (like in Ravenska Kočna), even if paid and guarded. Then there would be fewer break-ins and damages to parked cars. Many would leave their car for two or more days worry-free on such a parking lot. This cretinism in Tamar, where the hut is open all year but the barrier prevents road use, is just another reflection of how a handful of people manipulate the rest. I'm not saying you have to drive all the way to the hut, but from Tamar there are mainly long tours and everything extends by that hour of arrival and departure. Solutions are always found if there's broader interest.

Thirty years ago I would have been strongly against driving right under the hill. With years though every saved elevation meter becomes more important and for many retired mountaineers roads to Jermanca, Vrata, Lengar, Dovška, Lučka and Tolminske Ravne, Podvežak, Dolge Njive, Vas na Skali, planina Kuhinja, Zapleč, ... are precious help to save some strength for the upper floors of our mountains. Even to drive a bit closer to Tamar from Planica would be welcome, of course keeping the hut's immediate surroundings in current shape.

Best to pull roads right to the mountains, then everyone can drive to the top, just like planned for Triglav. That would really be super The walking to Tamar and elsewhere gets on my nerves too, but regarding environment protection it's right like this. You just take it into account. If extra couple km on flat is hard for you, then don't go on such tour, go where you can drive to the hut. I really don't see a problem here. If Tamar was open, it would be just such a madhouse as Vrata valley now at peak times.

Well, for once I agree with Polona too. Probably it will never again be like 30-40 years ago. Then you could drive nicely everywhere, sleep by the car, no crowds anywhere. Even under Aljažev dom terrace no crowd. Progress brought other things than expected. I've made peace with this walking and it's no bother. After all that's how I started mountaineering, walking from Mojstrana, Kranjska Gora, Rateče... When legs say no, time for other goals. Plenty left, believe me. Agree though that closing the valley alone doesn't solve much without organizing friendlier transports there. And one more, last year there (Tone remembers), noticed some go to Tamar to booze and on way back stagger, sit, almost collapse... Seems the walking option is really too long.

Drago, a miracle happened Glad that at least on this we think alike You noted well too that there are many goals left, also those where you drive to start and go right up. Something for every caliber

F.... madonna. Lovers of our mountains, I'm from the era when on the anniversary of our alpinists who fell from Horn's in Jalovec, when we sang with the caretaker Marjan: Tamar, Tamar, there under Poncami....; we regularly come to these parts from Styria (I for many years from another place) and pay homage to their memory at the entrance to the couloir where they fell. Yes, I really don't understand why the responsible people in those areas can't organize public transport, for payment of course, in the season that attracts the most enthusiasts (of all kinds) to these beautiful parts of our mountains. Namely, we who spend 2-3 hours behind the wheel in the early morning hours to cover the distance to our goal, then have to walk from Planica to Tamar, then after the tour back, it wears us out to .... Yeah, incomprehensible, and from an ecological point of view, as mentioned earlier, deserves at least some thought. What do you say to that, you mountain "addicts", at least those farther from these beauties of ours?

Except for Jalovec, and even that lately from Vršič, there are very nice ridge traverses in the Mangart – V. Ponca range starting from Belopeški Lakes. Up Via della Vita, left to Vevnica and on to V. Ponca, down past Zacci hut or right to Mangart and down Via Italiana. No worries with parking or paying. The same goes for the Western Julians: at Planina Pecol, Neveljski Pass or by Rabeljsko Lake, where in summer after the tour you can also quench your thirst and cool off.

For specific ones I don't know, but it's not quite true that nothing is paid across the border. Zajzero for example already.

That's it. The general pigheadedness of the people restricting us is boundless. Since they act under the guise of ecology, they're firmly in their positions. I'd really like to know if any of the 'decision-makers' has been to Jalovec. For the drunks and armchair hikers (which we met last time with Drago and Vinko), whose goal is the mountain hut, they can close the road already at Rateče so they sober up to the car . But there was a good attempt a few years ago, since the barrier was open until seven in the morning - I really don't know why it didn't work out... Ecologist Polona and her supporters, be my guest!

Caution is needed on the ridge crossing Mangart-Vevnica-Visoka Ponca, the fixed ropes are damaged and loose. Hiked September 2020.

Tone, shall we choose something? Madonna, how some get upset right away Your opinion doesn't bother me, why mine bothers you, I don't know A middle way like ramp open till 7 am or organized transports at set times to the hut wouldn't bother me either. As VGN though it would bother me a lot if open non-stop, it'd be even worse than now in Vrata, definitely not good for environment. I do care about nature, mountain and lowland, so don't support it. As Drago said, plenty of hills and mountains. If you don't like something like long approach on one, just go elsewhere, simple

In the Zaizern I wouldn't say that one pays. It's my most visited destination (summer and winter). So far no payment has been needed; on the last one there's a parking meter but it hasn't worked yet. Pustolovka: the ropes are loose, that's been the case for many years, but where they are loose you don't need them at all. It could be called pathless terrain; on the descent from Vevnica to Strug it was renovated a few years ago, it used to be worse sometimes.

Uh, I've started a real dispute. I understand that mountains get a bit higher and steeper with each birthday, so I don't mind roads to high starting points as long as it's within acceptable limits. This year's weekends, e.g., in Koncu above Kamniška Bistrica, already had way too much metal. For me, Jalovec's charm, besides the wonderful view and interesting path, is also that there are no shortcuts to its summit and you have to earn it properly. For those who can't do it in one day: Bivouac at Kotovo sedlo and Shelter under Špičak. Or Mala Mojstrovka from Vršič, Mangart from the saddle... I also have at least two hours' drive to the Julijci. Still, I prefer hiking to Tamar over driving to Vršič. It would be nice to find some middle-ground solution (like it used to be open until 7 a.m.), if not, better closed all the time than open.

At the end I'll say one blasphemous thing, you quasi-ecologists sitting there... Because what there is now isn't like anything. Shame. Therefore I would widen and asphalt the road from Mojstrana to Aljažev dom with green asphalt and a marked section for pedestrians. The parking lot at the end would stay gravel as it is and I would expand it as needed among the trees. First: driving on gravel is loud and can be heard to all peaks along the valley and disturbs animals, i.e., causes noise pollution. Second: during drives dust rises that pollutes left and right of the road for another 50 m. Those who dare to walk or bike through the valley arrive at the destination dusty like millers. Third: due to faster driving on the asphalted road, the travel time would be shorter and accordingly fewer emissions. Etc. and etc. And only then would we have an ecologically clean and quiet valley. At the valley beginning: ramp, 10 eur/day. Let the state finance the project – since we already have Triglav in the coat of arms. If they squander billions on TeŠ6 and various tracks, there will be some 100 million for this too... I'm agitating for a party that would support it. Also in the case of ferratas and asphalted bike paths there was spitting and grumbling for decades... now.. Now shouting and screaming.

Parenzo, this is nothing new. Already in August 2019 I got this info. I hope it will be realized someday. “In short, I present the main points of the project, which is already underway: 1. asphalting the road into the valley along the entire route 2. obtaining construction documentation and building parking lots in Mojstrana 3. setting up an information-mobile system and supervision of parking and traffic into the valley 4. introduction of public transport into the valley 5. limit on the number of parked vehicles on organized parking lots in the valley, Peričnik (35) and Aljažev dom in Vrata (150); when this quota is filled, entry into the valley is possible only by public transport. 6. Exceptions in the regime are: - owners of parcels, forests and buildings - rescue vehicles and GRS vehicles” The regime would run from June 1 to October 1, public transport from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day. Something similar would be welcome for all busy valleys, including Tamar. This is probably the solution acceptable to all.
