Today preview of that new via ferrata in Gozd Martuljek. At the beginning you have to go a bit on your own along the gully to the first cables. Then over wire bridges and chimneys to the top. Adrenaline rush

Yesterday afternoon I visited the Hvadnik gorge and climbed the namesake ferrata along the stream bed. Special circumstance was the high water level due to snowmelt and rain in recent days, because of which almost half of the ferrata was practically in water, including the passage past the biggest waterfall. But that's not the main problem (the good side of walking a few hours after rain is that the rocks are well washed and even wet they don't slip), but rather the completely unfinished first 100m after the gully. The start sign is on the left bank of the stream, where you need to cross the stream soon to the right bank, and a little later back to the left. There's practically no path here, and the question is how to reach the wires. Often you have to cross pools (which at low water isn't a problem), but some passages still aren't for everyone. Perhaps rethink the B rating (C sections). Most sections e.g. in the upper part are traverses over water, where a lot of body weight is on arms. At high water this definitely isn't B, probably more C/D than C, at low it's B where you can walk in the dry bed (but even that doesn't go everywhere!). In these latter cases the brackets are very far apart, which raises the question if it's suitable for ferrata-inexperienced children (I'm not saying they don't enjoy, the question is if they can enjoy safely). The via ferrata set is more or less useless for such a setup - a fall would stretch the set so much that the climber would already be in the water by then. Using a lanyard is safer (due to traverses). A comment to the builders - bracket is NEVER installed unevenly - both drilled crosspieces must be at the same height, otherwise the bracket slips if you step on the long crosspiece. Very dangerous, because brackets by streams slip practically always and not just after rain. Otherwise the passages follow the old path through the gorge, just a bit more sporty now. lots of enjoyment!

They destroyed a piece of pristine nature, just so someone can get an adrenaline rush, and the municipality attracts as many tourists as possible to maximize profit

And why did you become zdomec, if not for your own benefits? Locals here - when it suits them. Or should they live off admiring virgin rocks on this overgrown bank that never served anything?

On Friday I wanted to go to this ferrata with 8- and 11-year-old children. According to posters it's suitable even for much younger. Unfortunately we didn't even reach the first clamp, because we'd have to wade the stream or jump on slippery rocks. It seemed too dangerous even for me. Too bad

Today it wasn't necessary even once to step with shoe into water or wet rock. But I really had to 'jump' a few times. I would advise the responsible ones to check at least one of those long brackets on the traverses. If I'm not mistaken, it was somewhere in the upper half of the ferrata. Already at 75kg weight, at the place where the right part of the bracket is attached, the iron bent significantly under my weight. I assume the glue gave way (or whatever holds it in the rock. Given the mass visits, I doubt the bracket will stay in place much longer.

What's the condition of the Hvadnik ferrata after the last rain? Has anyone been yet?

Yesterday with colleagues, while visiting the Fallbach ferrata in Austria and the Grančišče ferrata in Mojstrana, we also visited the Hvadnik ferrata. The ferrata is especially heavily damaged in the upper part. Two stream crossings are completely destroyed, where you can improvise if there is little water (as yesterday), and one bridge with two wires (the lower one is gone - but you can cross to the other side athletically along the upper wire or with a lanyard), several crossings of torrent boulders are destroyed and require improvisation as well, several wires are overly tensioned due to trapped logs and stumps caught between the walls and the wires. The end is similarly problematic, where there is a fresh landslide - the wires are still OK, but safety is questionable. Do not take children to this ferrata.

This was my very first ferrata, ever. The entrance is not secured, but there is nothing problematic until you can reach the first section of the wire (at least when the level of water is low). The suspended "bridge" offers an opportunity for an attractive photo. On several spots, logs and litter are covering the wire. There is one "U-shaped" iron element, wobbling a bit (somewhere around the middle, before the small waterfall). After you finish the ferrata, you need to walk down and it's very slippery. Think about that before you choose your shoes. To summarise: not particularly difficult for a reasonably fit person. It requires a little bit of maintenance. It's a nice place to learn the basics. I've enjoyed it a lot. I see that nothing exists in English, but my Slovenian is still bad

Presumably next week we will start with the renovation of the ferrata, which was damaged in the rain around 1.11. I'll let you know when the ferrata is renovated.

Hello! I'm wondering if the Hvadnik ferrata is possibly already renovated? We're heading to those areas this weekend, but we'll have a child with us, so we'd rather not risk it blindly...

Hi, the new route will be open by the end of the month, but it won't be as demanding as Gonžarjeva or Spodnji plot. If you look closely at the picture posted by bongo, you'll see that they've left pegs stuck in the middle of the route, which they'll drill further. I met the route makers on Thursday and they explained that it will be harder than Hvadnik or Grančišče because the pegs will be further apart, which is excellent. Well, they probably don't want an E difficulty ferrata either, because rescuers would have even more work, and locals probably wouldn't like hearing the noise too much. The only thing that might be annoying, but it depends on the rock itself, how exactly it goes on it, because it goes right next to the Jerman waterfall to Srednji vrh. It will be an excellent addition to the Hvadnik ferrata, when you finish it, about 10 minutes descent and then to the top, then along the same path to the exit behind Gozd Martuljek.

Hello, from previous posts it's not quite clear, so is the Hvadnik ferrata renovated and open, and a completely new route is being set up, independent of it?

Hvadnik is open without issues, a completely new route is being set up or already done - entry from the main road, about 50 m further from the descent point, then steeply up, you reach the path to the waterfall and then up the wall next to the waterfall. Exit is somewhere halfway on the Hvadnik ferrata.
