Visoki Kanin

Certainly such or other ratings can be quite misleading. High Kanin doesn't have that rating for nothing and it wasn't given by some child. Someone will read this, think it's child's play and slip down at the first rocks. Describe it sensibly if you have anything to write, it's about the general safety of mountain visitors.

It's true as Igor pointed out about confusing and different ratings of path difficulties and comparisons between them.
I think that those used to secured difficult paths never ask about difficulty themselves, because they are prepared and properly equipped, know the path at least descriptively and have some experience on such paths.
But not every secured path is the same, but offers varied terrain of different difficulties, unsecured exposed sections, so also surprises and dependence on one's own knowledge of safe climbing.
For the inexperienced, due to the description of someone who, at their climbing level and mastery of mountain conditions, presents the path to another in their light, which can be difficult and unmanageable for them and therefore less safe.
Path difficulties are also nicely described in guidebooks and precisely given-warned and subtly assessed for the entire structure and levels of mountaineers, hikers.

The problem is that people don't read a guidebook before heading out on a tour. The other problem is that when rating from memory, despite the swallowed fear on a path, they like to show it was child's play for them... so... I read Hribi.net, Gore in ljudje... and written guidebooks... then plan the tour... and the opinion of children of enthusiastic parents doesn't interest me at all... but I'm glad they go to the mountains and parents raise them in that spirit..

Occasionally we meet parents from all over - even many foreigners, who lead their offspring on demanding paths in the style of pets. What can we do, this is just another modern phenomenon, where we wonder how much children really want such things themselves, or if they would rather play at home with a ball on the playground.. But let's not be rude, malicious etc., and let the increasingly present differences live..
When we hear comments from these little ones, we certainly realize that these children probably wouldn't go up there on their own, or something bad would surely happen to them otherwise.. Then it would turn out that such a thing is actually more than too demanding for them. Let's also remember that in our childhood we all did many, many daring mischiefs accompanied by parents... and we weren't scared at all.
Difficulty ratings should at least for now remain as officially given by experts (my humble opinion).

primoza... everyone is right in their own way! A moment of inattention is enough and the accident is here! Unfortunately in mountains often with fatal outcome even where one wonders how it was possible at all.

I gladly read your paths and kids' ratings, but still take it with a big reserve, because children don't realize dangers like adults, nor can they critically assess them. For them it's a game and it's great!
As I wrote, I'm glad you're raising them in mountaineering spirit, because when I look at this youth... I have no words what is happening to it...
I wish you and the kids many beautiful ascents!

Depends on which route to Jalovec, e.g. the one from Vršič and over Špička is not exactly ultra demanding! velik nasmeh

Of course it's easier, when most people arrive by cable car and don't hike from the valley.nasmeh

Well, we're at the beginningvelik nasmeh it always depends where you startmežikanje Say on Kanin there's a very demanding route over Vrh Krnice.... zavijanje z očmi
One needs to separate strenuousness and technical difficulty!!!! You can have just some part of the route that's technically veeeeery demanding, strenuousness though is 7 to 12 hours scree trudgingvelik nasmehzavijanje z očmimežikanje

Yeah, then you'll have to read a book on path categorizations... no hard feelings!

I agree with primoza and the others. For me let it be very demanding, demanding or easy... But the fact is, this is the "easiest" in the category of very demanding routes I've hiked.

primoza.., when you wrote what counts as easy route, demanding and very demanding you already answered yourself.
For me you can rate this route wherever you want for yourself, but it's true it's not for every mountaineer who has "5 minutes time"!
Already the start of the polemic about this seemed a bit far-fetched to me, just to write something... now I'm very convinced I am right... "smartassing for smartassing" but no offense... I smartass too, no mistake!

Was yesterday. On Kanin most hike from cable car, why not from fairy-tale Resia I say and go. Resia, this fairy-tale valley close to me, but still bit detour. Over Učja and over saddle Karnica, then main road valley to place Korito or just before Korito turn to marked path 642, don't let roadside sign (731 not mislead), brings me to Planina Kanin in less than hour. All new building, basically bivouac with all comfort from Interreg III/A, Julian Alps/Italy/Slovenia, doubt in Ljubljana ever heard of it, well Italians max exploited and did huge, visible too. Continue path 642a joins under Žrd to path 634, brings to Bivak Marušič. Continue to Vrh Krnice and on to High Kanin, new markings here but no longer show directions like old. From summit right on to Mali Kanin and on to Črni Vogl, there find branch to Planina Kanin and descend on cairn-marked trail or sometimes off-trail back to Planina Kanin and start. Nice, unique scenic tour. For those not wanting real high variant from Planina Kanin to Planina Kot and back to Korito village, nice too.

Since I do this tour every winter, won't write details this time. From Neveja have to carry skis quite far, this time above second ski area split. Definitely too much, so decide it's last time. Snow refrozen, sun not softening it, north wind blowing too. From Gilberti go right, snow even harder, higher opt for crampons as all iced. What snowfall that was, rain up to 2400m, 0.5cm ice crust dangerous long time. Go up gully (hard-icy) to Slovenian side. Maybe Davo ski it down, me no way in such conditions. When put skis on and descend few m to Dolge Prode realize too dangerous for slip. So crampons on again and short descent. Then skis traverse Kaninske Pode all way under Kanin wall. Traverse still well snow-covered, only higher by cables few m bare. Last traverse right under snow. Short rest on top, then down to skis. Skiing on 2-3cm windpack ice/snow, not everywhere to end under Vrh Osojnic, crampons up again up under Hudi Vršič, ski above Veliki Graben to Banata. Skis on rucksack to Sedlo (Prestreljeniška Škrbina). Ski towards Prevala, at 14:00 still hard frozen, seek sun-exposed slopes, bit better from Prevala to Prevalska Ravan. Again ascent and few 100m on piste, then foot to Neveja. Tour for whole shift (8h) nice as always. Due to heavy ice crust on snow almost entire Julian Alps recommend proper gear and caution.

kucelj hello, if you click on page 5, find turbot's post from 01.09.2011, he gave link up there and all other data too. Probably this will help you, just peek there.
