I don't understand why for every Primož post there has to be an avalanche of criticism. He's one of the most active on this forum - in three days he posted photos from two very interesting hikes, meanwhile nothing smart from Rutil for a while. I hope he's at least turned over on the couch three times by now.

"I cited one source." about Appalachians; while you were talking about the condition of Slovenian paths in Slovenia. and the source you cited about Appalachians is not some article/study, but a pamphlet from a trail protection agency. so you're spouting off or pulling out of your ass without basis. "I don't understand why for every Primož post there has to be an avalanche of criticism." currently I commented on Primož for the first time, because he's spouting into void unnecessarily and because such #Ekopapki act counterproductively by scaring people and creating panic. all #ECO but not one to the trailhead by public transport. hypocrisy for trash. his family situation and time pressure don't matter to me and I never comment on them, because everyone lives their life as best they can. "nothing smart from Rutil for a while." because Rutil lives ca. 500km from the nearest two-thousander. dogs around me are literally wet all year round, in peak winter I have about 2cm snow for a good two hours; below zero temperature drops just 5x a year. when I see a post asking about path conditions in my area I'll gladly tell; but I won't spout about conditions I don't know. unlike some folks, in this case Primož, I don't spout off or pull data out of my ass.

Criticism because his self-aggrandizement gets on most people's nerves. Climbing instructor, alpinist, mountain guide, scientist, nutrition expert... Whatever.

How little Johnny imagines the local impact of global climate change. Just like some redneck who at a slightly colder front claims it's all made up.

"I don't understand what's unclear here? So path maintainers have nothing to do with paths becoming more eroded. Well, we're heading into that." they're eroded also due to seismic activity, usage, vegetation, chemical weathering (hello carbonates), and.... a whole bunch of other reasons. how do you know that mechanical weathering has a greater effect than chemical and other factors? "Now spit into your hands a bit, and give me some link with contrary facts (that's fewer heavy downpours and less melting/freezing)" climate change is just one variable in a multivariate problem. to figure that out you need at least 3-year secondary school imo. but it's true that #ecology hashtag brings a ton of likes and is great for pumping your own ego; much better than looking at the issue from multiple sides objectively. because broader view on problem can't be fit under one hashtag. nice that you care about the environment, I believe you get to all trailheads by public transport and thus reduce the impact of climate change on high mountain paths.

"I dug up some articles up there. Still waiting." for what? if you're waiting for me to post some article against mechanical weathering or against climate change, you won't get it from me; because I have no problem with either. but saying that climate change is the reason for the state of hiking trails, while ignoring a whole bunch of other factors, is intellectually cheap or just a common populist tactic (identical to the one that says immigrants are to blame for all problems in Slovenia...sure for some, but there's a whole bunch of other factors contributing to the state in Slovenia). "Maybe ask Trump for some." has "Trump derangement syndrome" come to Slovenia too or what? wtf? although, given that you use the identical tactic as Trump, you'd get along with him just fine. he also likes to pump his own ego and seek attention. perfect match.

22.9.2019 "I was talking about the MAIN reason for the poor condition of some sections of the trail." 1) you didn't say main reason! you said, quoting: "In general, trails in the high mountains are slowly being taken by climate change." 2) source that says climate change is the MAIN reason for the state of the trails.

No wonder it looks like everything is warming up now, when they were predicting a mini ice age for 1974. Of course, The Guardian knows nothing about it now. 1974 : Guardian Warned Of A New Ice Age Interesting that already in 1923 some were saying the North Pole is melting. Really strange that it hasn't melted in these 100 years April 7th, 1923 North Pole Melting May 31st, 1947 – The Arctic is melting says scientist Feb 19th, 1952 – Melting Ice May Swamp Seaports June 24, 2008, NASA scientist said that in five to 10 years, the Arctic will be free of sea ice in the summer And now the most important Dr. Tim Ball Defeats Michael ‘Hockey Stick’ Mann’s Climate Lawsuit Let me remind you that Michael Mann is the source of all global warming conspiracy theories lately. His conspiracy theories are really on the level of Chemtrail conspiracy theories And probably we all remember how MSM predicted a few weeks ago that we'd run out of oxygen because the Amazon forests are burning like never before. Well, it turned out they are burning much less than it happened a good decade ago and it was all just political games because the Brazilian president is in the wrong camp. Here, the famous "expert" on climate change was already saying that global warming is to blame for those fires. What Satellite Imagery Tells Us About the Amazon Rain Forest Fires Sorry primoza, you watch and trust MSM too much, which are proven fake news. I suggest you rather deal with seconds on your hikes to Velika Planina, and at what angle you have to jump the fence.

Has anyone been on the climbing route over Vrbanove Needles in the last few days? Snow? Crampons?

Hard to say. From Rjavina it looked all clear, we were already thinking of tackling it this weekend. But in the upper part of Kot valley towards Stanic there was still a lot of snow visible.

On Friday, winter gear was mandatory for the route to Stanic, Rekar route is probably clear, I didn't see snow anywhere. Two crossed the ridge nicely. -> Video recording <-

Confirmed, the climbing route is normally passable. Yesterday from Kot valley to Vrbanove Needles. Even before entering the climbing part snow appears a few times, but you can go over or around without issues. Lojze Rekar route without issues, between Lower and Upper Needle there is about 10m snowfield, which you can bypass on the upper side, between snowfield and wall there is about half meter of clear ground. On the path from Stanič Hut to Kot there is still quite a bit of snow, so we went back the same way.

On the path from Kot to the junction for the Lojze Rekar route, there are still 2 snowfields, which are not problematic (soft, southern snow). Climbing to the Lower Vrbanova Spire and from the Lower to the High one without issues. We returned past Stanic Hut. On the path there are still 5 or more snowfields, which (with some experience and very careful steps) can be crossed due to the southern snow, and some can also be bypassed. Check this return route from the Vrbanova Spires and judge for yourself. If not sure, better return via Vrbanove.
