Does it seem to anyone else that all the arsovci have been on vacation for the last week?

Here's the response from ARSO (received this morning): Hello. Apologies for the late reply, I was away. Assessing avalanche danger is quite challenging. You can make multiple field observations, but conditions elsewhere, not far from the sites, can be different. That's why avalanche reports, including Italian or Austrian ones, summarize the prevailing conditions. Ours is particularly descriptive, though we try to cover as many differences across areas as possible. It happens that it snows more in the eastern Julian Alps, less in the west where they continue into Italy. In that case, we might rate higher danger for the Julians than in Italy. We can't pinpoint exactly where the boundary is, say from level 2 to level 3 danger. Sometimes we raise the rating based on observed avalanches or an accident, which isn't fully objective but serves as a warning. Hope I answered your question. Best regards. Andrej Velkavrh, Head of Snow and Avalanche Service Maybe useful for future winters to better understand differences between bulletins...

How do you check for a specific peak in Italy on this ilmeteo.it (e.g. in the western Julian Alps)? Is it even possible? Thanks, best regards!

You can't look at the mountains, but you can enter the starting point, e.g. type "Sella Nevea" or "Tarvisio" in "cerca localita". I do that when I go to the peaks of the Viševa group. Then select the desired day and it sorts the weather by the hour precisely. I vouch that the data is also like that in practice. Best regards

I also use ilmeteo.it when I go to the Dolomites, and they are quite precise with forecasts

For tomorrow, if anyone is following, Triglav slo meteo and Italian meteo: Slo meteo shows rain on the Triglav area from 11:00 onwards, should stop after 20:00. Italian meteo shows rain only after 17:00.

Both slo meteo and ita meteo missed it today with the forecast but still ita meteo has the advantage, as there was no precipitation in the afternoon.

I don't know what the ita meteo forecast was, but this morning at 5 there was a thunderstorm towards Trenta through Soča that wipers could barely keep up, but when I arrived in Zadnjica it cleared up.

If anyone from Carinthia or Styria plans to go to Očak at the end of the week, please contact me nicely via private message. I would gladly join. Thanks

On Sunday thunderstorms due to heat may appear in the north, at least that's what the zevs portal says.
