Today a long Krvavec tour and lots of little beauties. Presenting some of them.

Seems the first photo of my hard-to-identify last flower got away from me. Should be glandular dryad.

I think on the sixth picture it's not Koch's, but Froelich's gentian, on the added picture probably mountain aster (Aster amellus).

... all who learn botany on this site, me too, ... if you're convinced about something, convince us why. Cheers!

Before going on vacation, a few more mountain flower miniatures.

jprim: Koch's is usually darker in color (inside greenish), grows only on Pohorje (ok, probably also on some acidic location) velkavrh: those pinkish ones are not gentians, but gentianellas (Gentiana vs Gentianella). Probably the German one.

Gentian is Koch's, the last is many-flowered dryad. Gentianella is one of ours, just haven't delved into the species yet; first bellflower not rough, wouldn't know which one, second surely rough, pot-bellied one for Zois's.

There are supposed to be as many as 25 species of bellflowers, so it's really hard for us "botanists".

@jprim: "everyone learning botany on this site"!? If someone wanted to learn botany, I'd recommend one of many sites where they'll get that knowledge. This forum in my opinion is for lovers of alpine flora, who by exchanging photos and opinions check and supplement their knowledge of mountain flowers. Participation of a professional botanist would definitely be welcome, as we could learn a lot from him.

On the 5th picture probably cup gentian, no species of gentians grows above the forest line it says in my booklet

That's not true or at least not exactly (forest line is very variable). I photographed one species high in Sovatna (after the scree below Stenar Gates), the bearded one several times already, because it's also easiest to recognize and flowers quite late. So it doesn't stay just at my experiences, the small flora says that the following species grow also in the subalpine belt: smooth (alpine belt), bearded, Liburnian, cup (also alpine belt).

Gentians slowly fading...A few more shots from Olševa, Krede and Slatna

Among the gentians I accidentally slipped in a shot of the view from Krede to northern neighbors in yesterday's wonderful weather

Babim, nice, you have everything from edelweiss through preobjeda and grint. Was it lack of time that there's no gentian name under the pictures or are you afraid it might be wrong. For your eighth picture we really can't decide what the right name is. I see we spot it quite often. And bellflowers confuse us too. Vacation is over. Also from Hvar island I have a bunch of beautiful plants, just don't know where to paste them on the net. Who knows where I could forward them?

Velkavrh - yes, lack of time, as these days there's really no sitting in front of the computer, because the weather calls for outings. The eighth, though, I think is cup gentian and there were the most of them among all.

One gentian as a welcome to Velkavrh, whose name I don't know.

Otiv, thanks! I think I know your white beauty. I met her on the tour to Jalovec - it's alpine primrose - Primula alpina.

| babim15. 08. 2011 18:50:37 |
I think it's the common alpine primrose (saxifrages).

Thanks to both. Photographed it on the path to Tolsti vrh. LP.
