Branko, I see you still caught some blossoms up there. Still waiting for the package from Mangart.. And where are all the other lovers of alpine flowers and nice photos: Otiv (already miss your contribution), dleskovec, GITA, darinka4, potka, kati, Tadej, miri, francimedved...etc... , surely you've wandered in the mountains these nice last August days?! regards to all

Brane, are you going to Mangart tomorrow? Like Zlatica, I too can hardly wait for your little flowers. Zlatica, you're right about that. Sometimes it's very quiet here.

Zlatica, Apolonija, what do we call these pink tall flowers that grow by the ruins, or directly out of them? I saw them around Komna and thought about hard life 100 years ago.

ločanka, zlatica photographed this flower closer up. You can see it a bit higher, no.8- narrow-leaved gentian. lp

Thanks Apolonija, on Komna they seemed like a reminder of old times to me, only around the ruins they were.

ločanka, interesting how you observe and connect things. It's true that this gentian is almost always around small depressions or sinkholes and we could really say they warn of something different on the terrain there, or that they guard the spot. Also on Ratitovec there was this vegetation around the cave below the hut...., as if guarding against falling into the hole..

According to Apolonija's additional explanation, Turkish catchfly grows in the Karavanke, so I could say from this that on pictures 21-24 it's Turkish catchfly, which also matches that the venec is smooth.

Finally on Montaž I found the Triglav rockjasmine for the first time this year.

Brane, I haven't seen rockjasmine in nature myself yet. I'm interested how you distinguish it from mountain forget-me-not. From pictures I had the idea that the cushions are lower (shorter stems), leaves more hairy. best regards

Brane, weren't you aiming for Mangart saddle? I see you ended up higher on the Italian side. Did you take maybe another photo of that little flower?

To Mangart in two weeks! True, by flowers very similar to forget-me-not. Forget-me-nots don't grow that high. Rockjasmine is found there around 2300m onwards in rock crevices and also next to scree. It's rare. Leaves of rockjasmine are hairy, the plant itself is extremely low, flowers on very short stems.

Brane, thanks for the answer. You have experience. I read that mountain forget-me-not grows high in our Alps and saw a picture where they photographed it along the path over Triglav Notch. That's probably over 2300 m too? So I'm still in a dilemma if I could distinguish it. Do you maybe have some more characteristic picture?

Branko, I'm not sure that on the pictures from Montaž it's Triglav gentian. The altitude of the habitat cannot be a criterion for determining the flower.
