@darinka4, it's not spiny restharrow... it's on a longer stem. I think it could be some thistle. On your pic it's thistle... Zlatica, don't know if gentian has such big dry remains.

Zlatica, you still pick some flowers and blooming ones. Otiv and Darinka are already making dry bouquets, Velkavrh reviving memories of goosefoots. All is interesting and good. Otiv, you are right about thistle and most likely woolly-headed thistle. Zlatica, I agree with you on gentian. All points to Fritsch's too. Multiple flowers on one stem and divided leaf in "shadow"...Otiv, do you remember how tall the plant was and rosette size, since you doubt?

Yes, Apolonija, I was also surprised by these still very beautiful flower specimens for this time of year.

Oh, those "mračice" do sting. It's just ordinary bodoglavec, ločanka. lp

While there's snow elsewhere, a tender little flower bloomed in my rock garden, kamnokreč named Saxifraga cortusifolia "Black Ruby".

otiv, it's definitely one of the saxifrages, which are not easy to identify. It could be either the long-haired or Hoppe's; since it seems to me I see the leaves white-felted underneath, I'd say it's Hoppe's; of course it'd be useful to know where you found it. That's also one of the important details for determination, you know that already! A photo of the petals from below wouldn't hurt either . Maybe Apolonija will correct or add something... lp

Zlatica, thanks! I consulted "uncle" a bit, but not from the background and I think it'll be just as you wrote. Found it on Polhograjska grmada, of course now in November. Lp

Hello, today I'm turning to you to identify the animal species. On a recent trek in Nepal at 4500 m altitude in a small lake I encountered a multitude of little creatures (27°54'21.3"N 86°49'59.9"E), which I don't know where to place. Maybe larvae of some insect? I'd certainly appreciate any help, as it honestly puzzles me what lives so high. Can someone help? Pictures aren't the best...

well, it'll be tough I like and recognize only the flower on pic 3, I only know it's a beautiful gentian, while your little critters are really mysterious . Gonna need some expert . On the first pic I had to look quite a while to spot the little thing!

As Zlatica said, you'll hardly find an answer here. I think it's larvae of some amphibian and that's where my knowledge ends . Zlatica, it really is a beautiful gentian (Gentiana depressa)
