Which flower is this?

Zvonček24. 07. 2018 21:46:01
No, Zlatica, my grintavec isn't similar to that on your link. I have Tone Wrabr's book Hundred Famous Plants in Slovenia and the leaves of Hladnikov grintavec are far from similar to the grintavec in Dušan Klenovšek's picture. Who should I believe?

Mine is probably again the shiny grintavec. I'll go back to Grmada, since it should bloom until autumn.

Zlatica, maybe you know what plant is in picture 3? Definitely not shiny grintavec!nasmehnasmeh

Well, now my Črna prst has come up too. I should go see it there at the beginning of July. Then the diversity of the botanical path would be more interesting. On the botanical path there are almost no more blooming flowers, except rare exceptions. On Lišč they say alpine edelweiss is already coloring, but yesterday I didn't climb there - I know the locations though. Ivan Veber himself showed them to me some year ago. Yesterday I didn't even need to go towards Matajur peak to look for gentians. Rhelikanijeva murka blooms right under the hut at Črna prst together with silver avens - actually the houseplant of the hut at Črna prst. Many flowers have already overbloomed - one already smells the spirit of late summer.
As soon as you step out of the vehicle, nettle bellflower greets you.1
By the road grows common gadovec.2
The broad-leaved helleborine droops to the road.3
Kranski glavinec - on Črni prsti the endemic julijski glavinec is supposed to grow, but on Črni prsti there were no more - they had already wilted.4
I see the medicinal rožica - baldrijan or medicinal špajka.5
Along the road grows a mighty kobulnica. This is the common forest root (locally angelika) - Angelica sylvestris.6
Flower umbel.7
And leaves.8
Along the path also horse mane.9
The curled thistle already appears along the mountain road.10
Common kresničevje - in the shade it has not yet wilted.11
This flower baffles me - it is narrow-leaved talin - Thalictrum lucidum.12
It has such leaves.13
Along the road there are huge stands of common nedotika - here it grows exceptionally tall.14
Alpine golden rod appears already along the road.15
Here there are also stands of narrow-leaved ciprja.16
17
In the forest you then find narrow-lobed preobjeda.18
Plane-leaved ragwort.19
In the forest grows common dežen - Heracleum sphondylium.20
Leaves.21
Cyclamens bloom all year round like this.22
Then follows the botanical path.23
Soon I can conduct a thorough study of Scheuchzer's bellflower.24
Characteristic leaves.25
This specimen has slightly longer flowers. These flowers are already tantalizing us.26
They also grow like this - in the grass.27
There is a lot of clustered bellflower.28
Already above the botanical path at the bend in the rocks, we spot the unmistakable queen of bellflowers - Zois' bellflower.29
It finds every rocky crevice.30
Shot straight from the top of Črne prste downwards into the steep rocks.31
The last bellflower yesterday - pot-bellied bellflower.32
First time I noticed this little bush - alpine crowberry.33
34
Only now do I see why blue stoneberry has that name.35
Because of the blue fruits.36
Austrian hawkweed.37
Hairy snowbell.38
Green hound's-tongue.39
On the botanical path it always grows in the same place.40
Julian flax.41
Forest bloodwort.42
Willowherb - I don't know which one. I think it's the alpine willowherb - Epilobium anagallidifolium.43
On the botanical path itself we encounter three types of houseleek - this is the scaly houseleek - somehow our most common houseleek.44
We recognize it by its characteristic leaves.45
We could say that the evergreen houseleek competes with it.46
Of course on the botanical path we find the mighty Host's houseleek.47
At the end of the botanical path I found the last specimen of the cobweb anemone.48
The gentian has already finished blooming. It's the fraternal (twin-pollinated) yellow gentian - Gentiana lutea subsp. symphyandra.49
These will be ready for blooming next year - say.50
I find the first hawkweed - flower of late summer.51
Mountain speedwell has already finished blooming.52
53
The second sign of late summer is the start of flowering of the Pannonian hawkweed.54
55
Mountain avens.56
Tube-flowered gentian.57
Rožnati gadjak.58
Primrose-leaved avens.59
Hairy alpine rock-cress on the botanical path - we encounter it all the way to the top of Črna prst.60
61
Now is the time for flowering of hawkweeds - large-headed hawkweed, I didn't see any hawk's-beards.62
Narrow-leaved cottongrass.63
64
Shiny sandwort.65
Common sandwort.66
This one has leaves.67
Large-flowered blackhead.68
Pyrenean houseleeks.69
Stand of alpine gentians.70
Cowled speedwell.71
Carniolan primrose.72
Stand of multi-coloured houseleeks.73
Mountain wormwood.74
I even found round-leaved wintergreen.75
Mountain everlasting.76
Mountain everlasting at the top of Črna prst.77
Forest eyebright.78
I even found late arnica.79
Edelweiss almost at the top of Črna prst.80
Rock sedge high in the rocks in company of edelweiss.81
Thick-leaved thistle.82
Now the highlight of the mountain flowers of Črne prsti - silver alpine caught.83
Right by the hut on Črna prst, in the company of silver alpine caughts, there is quite an extensive stand of Rhelikanija's bilberry.84
Also the thistle with pinnate leaves.85
Austrian monkshood - currently the most noticeable cowbane on the botanical path and higher up too.86
I think we cannot mistake it because of these characteristic leaves.87
Here is also the shining speedwell.88
This one is still unbloomed.89
The smallest gentian is the alpine deer gentian.90
On the botanical path we also have another kobulnica with the largest leaves, which hasn't flowered yet - Polliniijev dežen, however it hasn't flowered yet.91

Zvonček, I'm a bit late with the reply, but I'm not on HN every day. To be honest, I don't know for sure; but if I look at the leaves in the picture of Fleischmann's grintavec that I attached to you on 20.7., yours has exactly the same leaves, very shiny, two kinds, some ribbed at the edge, others smooth oblong and I don't know any other grintavec with such leaves. Since Grmada and the slopes below it are a typical habitat where Fleischmann found his grintavec since he thoroughly worked that area, it seems completely possible that it's exactly that one. If you know some expert, have him check; I'm also very interested. lp

Zvonček, pictures are really just pictures. They show what they show, and plants can be in different "development" stages. It's right not to let yourself be "distracted" if you're convinced of something and continue researching. We too often just try to find the right answer. I have Wrabr's book and Zlatica probably too, but still wouldn't just discard the opinion about Hladnik's grintavec --Scabiosa hladnikiana.
I agree too that on 3 it's most likely Fleischmann's grabljišče --Knautia fleischmanniinasmeh

Zvonček like this:

no. 5-traunfellnerjeva zlatica -quite common
no. 8-correct
no. 9-skalna prerast
no. 15-alpine rockrose or sunrose (Helianthemum alpestre) -this rockrose grows highest and has the smallest flowers of all rockroses. It also has the name prealpine rockrose. In valleys we even have common rockrose (Helianthemum nummularium (grows higher too). Subspecies of common rockrose is large-flowered rockrose (Helianthemum nummularium subsp. grandiflorum). We usually see this in hills and higher too. In rocks it is replaced by alpine rockrose. Around Črna prst another subspecies of common rockrose thrives -shiny rockrose (Helianthemum nummularium subsp. glabrum syn. H. nitidum). Haven't spotted shiny rockrose at Črna prst yet.

Kamniške ivanščice -endemic KSA-haven't seen this year yet. Rare.

zvonček, you're doing well, you know more and more little flowers and the path to Velika Zelenica is usually full of flowers at this time and it's really nice there. This kamniška ivanjščica I know exactly where you photographed it, it's very beautiful and unique. You were lucky not to miss it. nasmeh

Otiv, do you have only this photo of the unknown? Something comes to my mind, but come on, attach another pic so we can guess easier. velik nasmeh

Velkavrh, many thanks. How happy I am with every description like your description of alpine cinquefoil. I'm attaching a pic, if I'm right of course, of many-flowered cinquefoil and another one - I think it's one of the saxifrages, just which one. It has almost no leaves. Thanks again and best regards

P.S. I was really happy about the Kamniške ivanjščice too.

Zlatica, thanks for the praise. If you get it from such an expert like you, I can really be happy. And as I already told Brankotu, looking at kamniška ivanjščica I was really touched. Flower lovers will understand me.

Zlatica, Apolonija, I checked and read everything I could find about Hladnik's grintavec and Fleismann's grabljišče and I'm almost sure that those on my photos from 24.7. are really those two.
Thanks again to both and best regards

Zvonček, at this saxifrage the gray-green rosettes are clearly visible - it's blue-green saxifrage-Saxifraga caesia.

I thoroughly studied saxifrages a couple years ago and checked how many species grow around here, but I still haven't found all.

The most common is definitely crusty saxifrage-Saxifraga crustata, then evergreen saxifrage-Saxifraga aizoides competes with it, there are many blue-green saxifrage-Saxifraga caesia, green cushions are made by homulični saxifrage-Saxifraga sedoides, follows clustered saxifrage-it has characteristic rosettes similar to dropwort, high in mountains right after snow melts we find saxifrage with largest flowers-burser's saxifrage-Saxifraga burseriana, high in mountains we find saxifrage with smallest flowers-star saxifrage-Saxifraga stellaris, longest stems peeking onto mountain path like this has beautiful host's saxifrage, which occurs in two subspecies here-Saxifraga hostii, in shade along forest mountain paths lives wedge-leaved saxifrage-Saxifraga cuneifolia, likes moisture and shade round-leaved saxifrage-Saxifraga rotundifolia, on rocks we find frozen moss and full of flowers-that's tufted saxifrage-Saxifraga squarosa, furrowed saxifrage occurs in three subspecies-on Krn plateau we find endemic dark purple or black-veined saxifrage-Saxifraga exarata subsp. atropurpurea, high in mountains e.g. on Mangart, Razor-Carniolan saxifrage-Saxifraga exarata subsp. carnolica, the third is musky saxifrage-Saxifraga exarata moscata, rarely we'll find rock saxifrage-I found it in Bavšica-Saxifraga peraea, changed one-Saxifraga mutata I found on Kozjek at Jezersko, three-fingered-Saxifraga tridactylites on Vremščica, high in mountains e.g. there on Kanjavec our red saxifrage-opposite-leaved-Saxifraga oppositifolia subsp. oppositifolia.

These are all the ones I found. But I haven't found tender, unusual, fiery one yet, nor identified Hohenwart's which is similar to homulični. In valleys grow granular and budded. So some searching awaits me.

Also in Austria grow some saxifrages not here or subspecies of ours.

Rock draba.1
This is how rock draba grows from Bavšica-it needs shade.2
Wedge-leaved draba-always in the shade.3
It has such leaves.4
Host's saxifrage - This is one subspecies - Saxifraga hostii subsp. rhaetica.5
This subspecies has such leaves - the other subspecies has slightly different, narrower and longer ones.6
Homul rockcress.7
Rusty saxifrage.8
Opposite-leaved saxifrage from Kanjavec.9
Carniolan saxifrage from Razor.10
Musky saxifrage.11
Grozdasti kamnokreč.12
Shaggy rock cress.13
Three-fingered saxifrage from Vremščica.14
Vednozeleni kamnokreč.15
Sinjezeleni kamnokreč.16
Starry rockjasmine.17
Blackish-purple saxifrage from Krn.18
Altered saxifrage from Kozjak.19
It has such a flower.20
Perhaps I'll show you the subspecies of furrowed saxifrage from the Dolomites - Saxifraga exarata subsp. pseusoexarata.21
And the two-flowered one from the High Tatras - Saxifraga biflora.22
Subspecies of clustered rock cress from the High Turs.23
This subspecies of clustered rock cress from the High Turs is interesting - I must look it up in the Flora Alpina handbook.24

Otherwise I also struggle with identifying these white cushion-like islands.
