Today was a beautiful day at Zelenica, only the crowd was quite big - at least to the hut, then we kind of split up each in our direction . The mountain hut is being diligently renovated, today they were installing the roofing, when this is done, it will be really nice! For those who have a longer hike planned, it's probably very useful to take the chairlift from Ljubelj to Zelenica between 7.00 and 10.30. On holidays and weekends though you obviously need to be quite early at Ljubelj to get a parking spot - almost every meter where you can still drive with a car and leave it is occupied.

Yes, heavy crowd these days up there, a bit too much. But it's also a nice starting point for many outings, hikes. We went last time one day around Begunjščica, to Zelenica even with chairlift, and via Born's through the tunnels. Very nice excursion and great view on Stol, Vrtača, Bled with surroundings,..all the way to Triglav. Path really isn't hard, but you get that very mountaineering feeling...

Snow starts after 20 minutes walk from Ljubelj. Further on there's more of it. Two days ago I was at Triangel and the path to the summit is nicely walkable, just in places the path is a bit icy.

Is the cable car to Zelenica still running?

Cable car to Zelenica not running. Very little snow, more higher up. Temperatures too high, so melting fast. And from Begunjščica avalanches already triggering very early. Best to go up very early when frozen - I started 6.30, by half nine already wet snow, wind helped that. Nice for touring skiing, as today Zelenica was besieged and up Begunjščica, only avalanching started very early. Nice greetings and good luck

And who knows what the snowpack is like on Suho ruševje... Does it sink strongly or is it good for walking? The plan is ascent to Palec..

On the piste it's trampled, doesn't sink, as soon as you step off the groomed it sinks. Snow is wet... But still walkable, just needs a bit more effort but ok.

On Saturday did tour to Nemški vrh and Palec. Snow conditions pleasant, in morning nothing sinking. On Palec snow hard even late afternoon.. In Suho ruševje nice trodden track.

Just one small correction. The peak which on Karavanke central map section is marked as Nemški vrh, is correctly named Zelenjak.

Before I went across the border for roe deer, I also went on foot to Zelenica. There's still some snow despite the poorer winter, due to frequent snowfalls. In Suho Ruševje there was still powder today, lower down a little new southern snow. In Centralni grapi and Šentancu a little slid from various places, as much new snow as there was. The hut at Zelenica was open today and they're still finishing the rooms in the upper floor. Later from clear skies, it completely clouded over with light wind.

Despite the bad forecast we set off in the afternoon from Ljubelj first to the hut at Vrtača, which was closed. A little rain fell then the sun even appeared . Towards the hut at Zelenica there's still a little snow and ice on the path. The hostess in the hut was very friendly. It was a nice short Sunday trip.

Today, 9th June, we were at the hut at the source of Završnica. About 30 meters from the hut we ran into a brown dog, with a brown collar (strap). We assume it's been there for a long time, as it already has a quite "arranged" bed in the grass. The dog probably isn't from the hut owner, since the hut is closed.

Do you know anything about the fate of this poor pup. Did you inform anyone that it's there?

Hah, at least after the previous snowfall it was, but I don't know if there's any change, since there's not much new snow.

The trip from Ljubelj to Zelenica can be really pleasant. There's only a sample of snow on the path left, the mountain hut is nicely arranged and you can refresh there too. The hostess is very friendly. But I was annoyed by the cable car operators' behavior (who by the way aren't operating. From 15.6. onwards until 10.30 they start the lifts and take you to the hut). Is there a hero somewhere who feels responsible for the car tires scattered on the ski slope, steel cables and remains of electrical wiring on this beautiful alpine pasture. Mountaineers certainly didn't bring that here!

I didn't think there would be snow already at Zelenica, so we'll have to wait a few more days for Vrtača.
