I was at Zelenica the same day, and I also planned to go to Vrtača. But then I went to Begunjščica. No problem with snow there.

Last post I put up last year, let me be first this year.

To Zelenica after work - starting from parking lot at three pm. Up the left side through forest, then across pasture and straight to Graničarska path, which leads to mountain road above Vrtača hut. Then along road to bend. At bend left to avalanche victims monuments. First time I went that way. This path joins usual path to hut again. At hut right to Sp. Plot. Path well visible and soon at overhanging top. How nice the view around. Up wooden cross and box with book for entries. Then along ridge to first little summit - there in rocks avrikelj, then to second little summit - from there beautiful views on Može. These four rocky summits need almost alpinist. Reportedly very demanding traverse. Back along ratrak path to hut and across scree to Vrtača hut. Nicely spent afternoon!

This is that pleasant border guard path.

Views constantly drift to the left towards the wall of Begunjščica.

At the end of the border path we reach the road, where we can go down to the Vrtača hut. It should be open on weekends.

At the bend you can turn right to the monument to avalanche victims.

In less than an hour we are at the hut on Zelenica. No one today, open on weekends with big crowds.

I don't know enough - but are these the Možje. I have already been to Palec and Zelenjak, and the continuation of Palec should have these Možje too.

The only slightly more demanding part of the ascent to Sp. Plot.

Summit of Sp. Plot - caution the summit has little space and is very steep. But from here magnificent view of Begunjščica, Zelenica itself and towards Vrtača.

Then along the ridge over two small peaks to the top of the Triangel cableway and down to the valley. This is the first small peak.

From the first peaklet beautiful views of the magnificent rock formations around.

There is no shortage of interesting rock formations.

Under the second little peak, the already mentioned auricula growth.

Between the first and second little peak is the climbing path to Stari Ljubelj.

This is that second rocky little peak - below we can already see the top of the Triangel cableway.

At the ruins below the Zelenica hut, even a bit over the spring snow.

For the last picture, let it be the Vrtača hut.

Today pics from winter Zelenica. Ski slope bare. Road still lots of snow but normally passable. Snow not sinking nor icy. Above Vrtača through scree still plenty snow. When the road ends, snow climb to hut awaits. It was a nice sunny morning today, no hikers anywhere.

Already below at the upper parking lot this sign kindly invites us to Zelenica.

The bridge to the large parking lot is newly built.

Going up on the left side of the bridge along the forest road through the little wood. Unfortunately the path is quite branch-strewn after the logging.

When we emerge from the forest, beautiful views of the walls of Begunjščica open up before Vrtača.

Before Vrtača we turn steeply uphill onto the road which is still partly snowy. From Sp. Plot extensive avalanches came down in winter. Above the road everything is bare. On the return this snow was groomed by a snowcat.

But when the road ends, this winter idyll to the right. Ski tourers were ascending up there.

The avalanche danger sign has already been removed.

When the road ends, still across snow to the hut.

View back to the right where skiing used to be. The ski area hasn't operated for several years.

Otiv, yes. That's yellow dog onion. That's a more valley low flower. Now it's already finished blooming.

This year I'm botanically surveying everything around Zelenica including Begunjščica, Vrtača, Srednji vrh, Zelenjak and Palec. This is my second visit this spring. Last time Zelenica was still wintry. Now it's finally waking up. I went up via the ski slope and checked the left and right sides. The meadow just below is still low and nothing tall is growing yet. On the left slope-scree there are no pinks yet. On the pasture itself we can already find scabious. I went past the Vrtača hut. Below the Vrtača hut alpine bellflowers and tall gentian begin, above the hut also Wulfen's gentian. On the path through scree above the hut common willowherb is already blooming, the hairy one not yet; at the rock yarrows we see only limestone rosettes. The pastures right of the Zelenica hut are full of both gentians. At the Završnica spring it's full of butterwort. In three weeks I'll return and go to Srednji vrh too.

At the starting point I was there at 3 p.m. There was no sun. There was high cloud cover. View of the lower part of Begunjščica.

The view of Begunjščica screes always enchants me.

I always like going along this path above Koča na Vrtači.

Then I turn left past the memorials to avalanche victims.

On these rocks below the Zelenica hut on the left side grow beautiful jegliči or avriklji.

The Završnica spring is extremely watery.

The hut at the Završnica spring was even open.

Then I descend further to the shepherd's hut on the pasture below the hut at the Završnica spring. Nothing special, nicely spent afternoon. What I found of mountain flora you can see at the flowers.

Today again to Zelenica after shift. Since it's hot, up the border ridge. Then to the hut for radler, then also to Spodnji Plot. Down past the automatic weather station and Triangel. Already from Zelenica hut along the upper path that leads above the road and of course further along the border to Ljubelj.

Always grateful shot - view of Begunjščica.

On Zelenica a large herd of cattle grazes, with horses among them.

High-altitude weather station Zgornji Plot.

Last little summit and descent to the Triangel ski lift.

On the right side of Mož is this rocky summit.

In the background Vrtača towers heroically.

Already at the hut on Zelenica - view back.

Even the smallest little flowers are Pannonian bellflowers.

Zelenica and Triangel already shining in full winter light, the ski slope was almost entirely skiable today. Only the first slope is a bit scattered with rocks and better to walk a few meters.
Already in the morning despite strong wind there were quite a few ski tourers. Most terrain can be skied decently, on some parts of course frozen crust combined with powder offers its own motocross nasmeh

Peaks lit by morning sun anyway offer such a unique view that it's a shame to miss any such moment.

PS: snowfields towards Begunjščica not sufficiently snow-covered yet!

On Sunday, 23.2., it was really ideal for ski touring on ceucu jit but the mass of Austrians was enormous..

I did this route last summer and know that the ridge is quite exposed. Down to Zelenica I descended via the secured path. Bravo - you did a very demanding route in these conditions!

Here it would still somehow go on the snow.

Continue like this along the little ridge.

Today in the morning clarity I did a tour to Suho Ruševje.
Snow starts already below Ljubelj, at Zelenica there's already a lot, higher even more. Mostly ski tourers, some snowboarders too. Avalanches have settled a bit, old snow is frozen. Tracks are made in all directions, new snow from less than 5 cm below, to 10 cm in Suho Ruševje, on foot (also skis) sinks more or less somewhere, because snow is wind-packed in places. No tracks to nearby peaks noticed. Since new weather deterioration with snowing approaches, conditions will be different again. Some pictorial impressions from the tour. Regards nasmeh
