Barren is 2598 meter high peak and is part of the Schober Group. The peak is located 1.0 km north-northwest of peak Hoher Prijakt. The nearest mountain hut is Hochschoberhütte, located 0.8km west-northwest. bivouac Gösnitzkopf-Biwak is also relatively close. 8 km northeast from the summit there is glacier Hornkees. The peak is located west of the valley Debanttal.
