If I'm not mistaken, generally for bivouacs in Slovenia there are no reservations and it works on the principle of first come, first served.

But you have to be careful with this bivouac at Prehodavci, because the above applies only off-season, when the hut is closed. When the hut is open, I think they consider the bivouac as additional bed capacity besides the hut and then you have to reserve a bed in the bivouac as well. In the online reservation system, you can choose between a bed in the hut itself and a bed in the bivouac.

@oldtimer 55 thanks for the description of the conditions and the photos nasmeh

Just checking if that traverse to the right that takes you to the upper ridge (a bit further right from picture #4) is already completely dry or if there's still snow on that 30m section? (some folks at home don't like going in the snow there, so I'm checking nasmeh)

Great nasmeh thanks

Hi!

Does anyone have any fresh information on the conditions on the path from Rudno polje to Viševnik in the last few days? I'm especially interested in how much snow is left or if that ~50m section where the path turns sideways to the right and then reaches the upper ridge is nicely trodden wide.

Thanks for the help nasmeh

I don't know if this is still relevant... in this new video they quickly show/mention the winter room (see from 26:10 onwards). The condition is supposed to be worse.

Aha thanks. So that should be that new section of the path that they made this summer around that washed-out part. When I was there this summer they were just starting to cut the scrub and I was still crawling up through the gully pulling myself by the scrub with my hands nasmeh

If that's the only change, it's a bit strange that now they've marked the path as difficult (on maPZS it's still marked as easy). Apart from that broken path part I never needed to use my hands.

Hi, thanks for the description. Is the path V koncu -> Cojzova koča, now marked as difficult, changed somehow and runs differently than before when it was marked as easy? So I know for summer when I'll hike there smile

Thanks nasmeh

Hi,

Wondering if now that the hut is closed, that water tap next to the hut is still working and water can be gotten there? Or did they close the valve and drain pipes for winter?

Thanks for help

Hi, has anyone been to Krn from Lepena past Krnsko jezero in the last few days? Is the path from that north side now dry or still snow somewhere on the path?

Thanks for the help and best regards

I'm always curious why there's such resistance in Slovenia to bringing iron/infrastructure into the mountains. Has anyone looked at what all they've built and drilled into the mountains abroad? How would the Swiss have managed to route all those tunnels, railways, cable cars and everything they've built in the mountains with that kind of thinking? I'd dare say the Swiss are a more mountaineering nation than us.

Also this eternally used taunt about wanting to drive to Triglav by car... 100 years ago in Austria-Hungary they had ideas for cable cars to Triglav (and a ski resort below Triglav). Similarly today in Germany on their Zugspitze there's a cable car. To each their own - if you like go up on foot, if not by cable car.

With us we only know how to block a broken macadam parking lot with a barrier and that's it... then we're "proud" of limiting traffic.

"Can't wait" for them to start charging for transit too in about 2 years.... because... dunno... environmental protection? jezik

Thanks!

Hello,

I'm interested if anyone has been to Krn in the last few days? Has the snow from the last snowfall completely melted on the path from Planina Kuhinje? (on the camera it looks like there's no more... just prefer first-hand info).

Also interested if anyone knows if snow has perhaps melted on the north side of Krn on the path from Lepena?

Thanks for help and best regards nasmeh
