On www.hribi.net/powerpoint.asp in the PP presentation Beauties of the Alps, on slide 9 I noticed a picture of Šplevta.
I'm wondering if this is really Šplevta (northeast of Razor), if so, from where was it taken, and what's the name of the peak in the background on the left side?

Where does the winter variant from Kotovo sedlo to the summit run, and is the marked path still under snow, but passable with ice axe and crampons?

Excellent, and which routes up and down?

How's the road from Mojstrana to Kovinarska hut, I assume it's drivable?

I also completely agree with "old school". GPS is just an additional tool. But it really came in handy for me once, thick fog like hell (up to 10m visibility), returning from Planjava towards KS, I reach a wall where the path runs out. I look at the GPS and see I'm about 50 elevation meters above the path, although I'd swear I was lower. Ok, I could go back to the markers, but on pathless terrain that doesn't work. Knowing where I am at every moment is priceless, the rest is irrelevant. If that unfortunate couple who got lost last year on the slopes between Repov kot and Žmavcarji had known where they were at a certain moment, that situation would probably have turned out differently.

I completely agree with Spetovarjer, it's just that I swear by everything similar to OziExplorer (for hiking) and TomTom for road navigation.

Excellent šodrovec, very nicely explained, I'd add that in the time of GPSs, searching for current altitude with barometer...

I myself have been looking for a good thermometer for some time, with temperature scale at least from -20 (desired -30) to at least +50 (desired +60), one with carabiner, or possibility to hang it on backpack.

One more thing, (though it doesn't fit this topic), does anyone know where to buy a large umbrella (150 cm diameter and more)?
