Across Škarje you cross one shorter gentle snowfield, which can be crossed or bypassed.

Today via Kopinškova to Ojstrica. Fixed protection BP, in places just somewhat faded and less visible markers. Need to cross approx. 15m long snowfield...recommend ice axe. Descended via Škarje, below which I observed a pair of golden eagles dancing in the updraft.

Last weekend I was up there. To the end of the scree without crampons was OK. Summit frozen. Descended the gully, good steps under crampons.
Temps last weekend were lower than expected this time.
Agree with Bojan A on gear.
Good luck!

Even today the path along Lobnica enchanted me again with its tranquility.
Morning started anyway with clearing parking for the car which I left a bit before the place where signposts from Gornjakova street direct us towards waterfalls.
All streams we cross on the way are mostly frozen over, some snow over ice, so crampons to Mali Šumik I didn't need. But later I put them on when crossing slopes towards V. Šumik. Snow is in first half of path up to 30cm, between both waterfalls locally even over waist. Waterfall was today all covered with fresh snow, so I had feeling like staring at snowy slope. Track I ended under V. Šumik, so further across gully and towards protections there is none. Back to start I returned same way.
For me definitely one of nicer tours in our area, especially if conditions or time don't allow something else.

On Sunday 8.1.2012 from Podvežak via Prag to V. Vrh and V.Zelenica.
I wanted to warn about snow holes between both peaks, caused by warmer air from limestone cracks and now invisible in snow.
Also from Sedelca direction to V.vrh one crosses a deeper crack not always visible, so caution needed there too.

Yesterday's plan for winter ascent to Ojstrica changed by "at least something" method to winter approach to Lučki dedec.
With the car in the morning it went about 100-200 m beyond the fence at Podvežak. First part of the path was a ski track, but it ends a bit further where it touches the marked path on the ridge of Tolsti vrh. Further to Korošica I followed winter marks. At Korošica "whiteout" in combination with strong wind gusts, so instead of Ojstrica I turned towards Prag and on to Lučki dedec. Cairns are nicely visible despite snow, so even in fog I had no problems finding passages. On the way back I also crossed the slope above Korošica and returned to my morning track again at the saddle. Meanwhile the ski track disappeared, as someone really "stomped" it.mrk pogled Snow on the way back started freezing, but was still sinking.
The way down to the valley with the car... well, the road softened in the afternoon, so to the Podvežak-Ravne junction up to 15 cm slush and thus a bit more wheel sliding when cutting ruts.

Hochalmspitze is much further right and not visible on this photo.

If you want to avoid a snake bite, best not to be first in line nasmeh

Yesterday's conditions from Pl. Podvežak over M. Ojstrica to Ojstrica were ideal. Little snow to the saddle at Korošica, it was frozen, track was made. To Ojstrica summit had to cross some small snow patches, steps were made so no crampons needed.
On return also descent to Molička planina and back to Podvežak. No issues on that path either.

Today I made it to the top of the Turkish gully. Snow untrodden, at Okrešelj 50cm, in the gully varies from 20-70cm. Up to the big boulder in the gully without using crampons. Further on lots of cornices. Exit from the gully to the ledge covered with verglas (about last 10-15m). Further towards Turska gora (as much as I could see in the fog) very windblown, with drifts. For the summit itself, I think we need to wait for another snow dump.

Hello,

I'm interested if anyone has fresh data on snow conditions on Skuta. For Saturday planning ascent from K. Bistrica via Žmavčarje. Thanks

Peca - access to the secured path Walter Mory is obstructed, due to a larger wall rockfall at the ferrata entrance. From the junction from path P3 to ferrata the path is visible another 15m, the rest is all buried with rocks and fallen trees. The rockfall can be bypassed on the left side straight up to the wall, which leads directly to the entrance. Ferrata is otherwise BP.

@ogo, thanks for the pics. Was on Planjava today; unfortunately fog accompanied me from Škarije onwards, and since I didn't feel like tiptoeing on the snowfields, I descended the way I ascended.

Ogo, nice tour, even nicer pics. Congrats. Do you know the conditions on the south side of Planjava? Tomorrow I plan ascent past Korošica to Škarje towards Planjava and descent over Silver Saddle. Or would you think it better in the opposite direction?
