I found the idea for the hike here: http://www.kibuba.com/kks/?content=3&project_id=12&unit_id=269#unit269

I expected a bit more sun, but at Mokrine snow was falling. I parked on the Italian side too, right behind the Sella Forcello hotel, where the road starts as well. I equipped myself with touring gear, then along the snowy road past Auernig pasture, under For pasture, near Monte Cerchio the road ends and turns into a nice wide mulattiera, then some ascent follows. The area there reminds me of the landslide on Stožje, a similar slide happened here too when it carried away a good part of the slope below. Then short descent to abandoned Cerchio pasture, then a bit up, a bit down and finally mostly quite a long descent to Biffil pasture. On the pasture, which is abandoned too, I find open doors, actually it's a bivouac without bunks or one part is locked and inaccessible. In a pinch one could bivouac a night, there's a wood stove inside too. I look around the pasture, on the NE edge I notice a forestry hut, I go a bit further, of course the northern slopes of Šinauc interest me. Since a long way back awaits me I don't hang around much and already slide back up on skis. On return I check some private hut above Cerchio pasture, I stop at For pasture too. When returning to Mokrine the sun already sets behind the saddle between Mali vrh (M. Malvueric) and Konjski špik (Monte Cavallo). Why someone makes such a long trip and skis nothing, nor removes the skis is actually a philosophical question. Anyway, it was beautiful and someday this needs to be repeated. Definitely it would be wonderful trekking in the dry too, they have even marked a Nordic walking trail, not to mention MTB.

I could say it's an insignificant mountain that only a few who drive through the Canal Valley from Tarvisio towards Udine even notice. A few years ago I already skied down from it. I start at the Cereschiatis saddle. This time I go in the opposite direction, walking less than an hour along the nice private road closed to public traffic to the upper Glazzat pasture, where there's also lively farm tourism in summer. (To have something like that in our TNP is already a blasphemous idea, even outside it's not too welcome). On the pasture I look around at the surrounding mountains, then continue west along the road to the nearby intersection, still on path 434, then I head onto some kind of cart track and traverse the forested ridge in a slight ascent. The path later slightly descends to the next intersection, where I follow the markings of path 453 to the top of Crete dal Oronz. There's snow in this part up to about half a meter, but someone walked there a few days ago, so the trail is made. From the top, of course, wonderful view of the surrounding mountains, where Crete di Gleris stands out especially to the south (pipeline runs under the mountain), then Creta Grauzaria and Monte Sernio to the west, Monte Zermula with slightly lower Pizzulo, then pasture Pradulina and above it Monte Salinchiet, to the north Konjski Špik (Monte Cavallo), Creta di Pricotič and Creta di rio Secco, and of course both Malvuericha (Mala vrha po Vidovo). In short, for such an inconspicuous peak it's a beautiful panorama and so it's no wonder that since my last ascent there have been more Slovenes than Italians, from the known Stritarjevs, to Ivan from Planina pri Horjulu, with whom I met years ago under Cima Palombina, to my former teachers from under Šmarna gora, to the oldest and most active female hiker of our PD with her daughter Marjeta. From the top I descend the ascent path to the fork, then back to the saddle along the nice marked trail. I assume Miro will add some pictures from this trip, who regularly revives memories of walked paths. In dry conditions I recommend this nice loop also for families with children, all together it takes 5-6 hours.

On the last day of this year I sought clear sky and found it on the webcam at Sveti Višarji. Trbiž area had sun, just needed to find snow, I drove to Ukve and to former Nordio Deffar hut (catastrophic thunderstorm end of August 2003 destroyed the hut). With skis along forest track on path 507 towards Pleccia saddle, then via planina Acomizza to chapel of Our Lady of Snow and to Bistriška planina - Freistriz alm. Return via planina Acomizza past Rotonda chapel, and path 507A back to start thus completing 170th tour this year. Looking at notes now at year end I see 76 ski touring ascents done, 39 times Carnic Alps, rest mostly Western Julians, Naborje mountains, 12 times up Triglav preferably winter, sadly only once in Austria on Hochalmspitze, with Triglav friends and supporters fought battle for Aljaž tower imposed by PZS presidency, for now we won, new fight if needed. You read and saw photos of almost all tours. Though long more alpinist than hiker, hribi.net was pleasant except rare cases, but time to decide so triglavski bids farewell end of year. Farewell dear lady hikers and hikers, lady alpinists and alpinists, friends and "mountaineering friends" wish rich mountain experiences, firm safe step, above all much luck wherever path leads in our and foreign beautiful mountains. Happy 2010

PZS prepared appropriate warnings in good time for mountain visits in winter conditions. I'd add that besides crampons and ice axe, a helmet is highly recommended too, which can effectively protect the head even on falls and slips. In recent days in the high mountains it has been windy, frozen and icy, the snowfall already hitting the Julian Alps will cover the icy slopes, so extra attention is advised. Wind drifting snow into cornices will be dangerous for avalanches, as snow slabs will form which are especially dangerous as slab snow triggers at the slightest load. Unfortunately the weather these holidays is not favorable for high mountain visits.

For the last time this year I headed to the solitude of Clean Peak. When I started at noon the sky was still quite clear, then it quickly clouded over but it was still nice. Past Planina v Plazeh from the forestry hut direction no one had walked, little snow and it held well. To the planina quite trodden, also further to Clean Peak, but no entries today, yesterday three. Met two who thought they were on Clean Peak but disappointed them as they were only on some rise west of Clean Peak towards Šnite. At summit JZ wind, snow held well, no punching through without skis and crampons. While looking around saw big avalanches from under Špičje, some already thickly covered Korita under Trebiški dol, also up towards Prehodavci not looking too safe.

pohodnici53, I don't know much about boots, but I think your boot is too wide, the foot despite strong lacing is not secured and slides forward, I suggest a narrower boot model, otherwise most retailers master these things well, so I suggest everyone turns to an experienced retailer at purchase, if none in the store, change the store because they obviously don't know how to sell.
triglavski27. 12. 2009 18:44:29
One more thing if anyone's interested, road to Krma passable only to Marčun (last weekend on the right) further water made devastation on the road.
triglavski27. 12. 2009 18:11:56
In the high mountains of the Julian Alps many wet snow avalanches triggered during recent precipitation, later the snow froze, new snow is mostly windblown, writing for the area Upper Krma - Kredarica where slopes are very icy and without crampons and ice axe no progress possible, similar conditions also in Kanin area where outside ski slopes everything is icy and very dangerous for slipping. Last snow fully windblown.

I'm not sure if I'm exactly mesmerized, but anyway the Western Julians are always worth a visit, as are the Naborje mountains. Zajzera is a nice valley, just the right distance – close enough but not too far – from its mountains you can see far, even to the Carnic Alps, where I go more often anyway, there are almost never crowds, and in winter there is just enough sun on the slopes of Poldašnja špica; in short, always a favorite target. It's true that in early September the storm brought lots of scree into the valley; generally I notice that this valley is filling up more and more, something similar is happening almost everywhere, there is lots of scree also in Remšendol, and at home for example Zapoden. Krniška glavica will have to wait for another meter of snow, then I'll surely go up again on skis to enjoy the views of the north face of Montaž. Regarding the hut, I'm not sure, but I've several times come across it open on weekends; today there was no stop for a drink. Winter tires were enough today, although I saw chains on some. I'm glad if some description is useful to someone, thanks. Yes, I already know Alessio personally, a very pleasant man. Basically I wish the same, and maybe we'll meet sometime. Regards

Festive day and festively dressed Zajzera. Well road was snowy but easily drivable to last parking lots with proper gear of course. Since I'm late there are already some cars at parking, no snowshoes as I figure good folks have made the track, skis not even thinkable for a while. Snow in valley only about 5 cm, so to Grego hut no problem, even dry, further only three tracks and already at Planina Rudni vrh one pair turns back, so only two ahead of me. A bit higher I catch them, girl and boy from Ljubljana made nice track, now I go ahead to give them a break, but already at Alpini Gemona bivouac they catch me and we alternate breaking trail to summit. Snow sinks to knees in places, old is wet with some crust, new less than 10 cm. Warm, sunny and scenic. Part of way back together, then I lag a bit. Always nice tour, Grego hut open.
triglavski25. 12. 2009 18:34:25
Yes that was a problem a few years ago, when Boka flowed perpendicularly into Soča and "blocked" it, which resulted in flooding the area at Žvikarju-Podklopca. Then they arranged the Boka bed at the outlet so that it flows obliquely, so the water drains easier and doesn't raise the Soča level, and also carries away the material continuously. Of course with larger flow material accumulates and cleaning will be needed for better flow.
triglavski25. 12. 2009 15:21:52
I also took a little look around on this rainy day, where about 500 l of rain per m² should have fallen in our parts, currently (15:20 h) it's still raining heavily.
triglavski20. 12. 2009 16:51:15
So you didn't reach Kredarica as I understood. Now mainly dangerous are slab avalanches, because wind piled snow into windslabs and they can trigger at the slightest load. I'd be interested how much snow fell in Krma, I think not more than 10 cm.

This path from Trbiž is of course quite long, and if they open Florjanka ski area, then no more possible on the ski slope. Nice is the old pilgrim path from Žabnice, but as two Austrian ski tourers told me, the lower part is a bit icy, if it snows a bit, it will improve quickly. But the path is entirely in shade, which is somewhat unpleasant at these temperatures. No tracks to Stone Hunter seen, and anyway too little snow for skiing right now, at least for me, because I ski one variant down to Zajzera and return by road. Another variant from Zajzera and Mrzla voda over Prašnik saddle, but that's again in shade all along Mrzla voda valley, and extremely long.

Another year has passed and off from Trbiž via Florjanka to Višarje. Nice cold sunny day perfect for great views this path offers. Of course walked on skis on ski slope not operating yet but soon will. At Višarje dropped by Mr. Mešnik, downed a glass for health, then back.

Heinz Vidussi in Čedadi, in the center opposite Hotel Roma across the street in the basement premises, have everything for mountains and alpinism. In the AlpeAdria framework there used to be a shop Alpisport or something similar, later they moved to Tolmezzo, I haven't found it yet, I bought some stuff there before, but now in the EU they no longer refund tax, so the price is about the same.
abece, check some catalog, say from Igluja, and you'll quickly see the differences as every boot has a detailed description.
triglavski16. 12. 2009 16:19:08
Conditions since my ascent haven't improved much, if anything they've worsened; Saturday will be windy and cold again, maybe even snowing.
