Yesterday our goal was Špik Hude police (2420 m) in neighboring Italy. The path led us along the Soča road over Predel to the settlement Sella Nevea. In the settlement, at the sharp right bend we turned right straight uphill on the narrow road to the Pecol pasture. We park the vehicle on the large parking lot and from there our today's goal is already visible. The morning temperature was only 12 degrees, but from the Pecol valley there were magnificent views towards Montaž, Špik Hude police and the other surrounding peaks. We continued right towards the Rif. di Brazza hut, after 20 minutes of walking continued past the hut where signposts lead us to a fork right towards »Terra rossa« 2h, straight ahead to Montaž. The path to the summit is not strenuous but really pleasant and scenic. After a good hour of hiking we first spotted four chamois grazing and the higher we went there were more and more. Of course we heeded the warnings of hikers from the description on hribi.net and put on helmets. I mention this because we saw with our own eyes along with Austrian hikers how a chamois (young one) stepped on a loose rock and triggered stones that rolled down the slope. Also when they graze and cross the slope they dislodge stones which luckily stop after a few meters. On the summit of Špik HP the views were occasionally worse due to fog descending over Montaž, Viš and surrounding peaks. The view towards Višarji and Kamniti lovec also wasn't the most convincing. Definitely with good weather views reaching far around. On the summit and along the path we met a mountaineer who was anything but well-shod and thus challenges misfortune. The return passed with beautiful views over Pecol valley and towards Kanin range.

Unfortunately there was no help for her. The day before she wasn't here. Thanks Ajda for the nice wishes, returning them.

The Triglav Seven Lakes was our goal this week. We drive along the valley to Trenta to the Zadnjica starting point. Our path continues towards the Zasavska Hut at Prehodavci over Zadnjiški Dol. At the saddle Čez Dol we join the mulatjera and after 2 hours we are at Prehodavci. We overnight at the Zasavska Hut and the next day at 6 degrees and wind we head to the hut at the Triglav Lakes. On the path through the Triglav Lakes valley we admire the lakes and surrounding peaks. We listen to the Marmots, which pose photogenically for us along the path. At the hut we turn back and leave the last Black Lake for the next tour via Komna or Komarča. We return by the same path back over Prehodavci to the Trenta valley.

Hello. Since the last post here on hribi.net, my wife and I have traversed and conquered quite a few peaks. We started the two-day tour on Saturday afternoon after 16:00, on 07.07.2012 from Zadnjica. After four hours of walking on the mulatjera, we overnighted at Dolič in Tržaška koča (staff very friendly, prices quite inflated for our conditions, I think the highest around there) and the next morning headed to Triglav. From the hut at Dolič, we continued left on the path and ascended the mulatjera. After 45 minutes of walking, the path levels out and ahead we nicely see our goal Triglav. We continue in the direction of Triglav on the slopes, past Lojzet, to the junction where the path from Plemenice joins. We continue right up the scree all the way to the wall and further with the help of protections traverse up to Triglavska škrbina (here the path from Planika joins). We continue left upward on the steep well-protected path (right at the start approx. 100 m ascent there are two loose pitons, one bigger, the other smaller, which need to be secured). All the way to the summit on the slope of Triglav, a strong wind blows in individual gusts, driving mists from the Trenta valley. From the direction of Kredarica toward the summit and back, there was nice visibility of quite a bit of traffic. At the summit, fog greets us first. Soon it disappears for a few minutes and I take photos on all sides. After a one-hour rest and the obligatory christening of my wife, who celebrated her birthday that day, we slowly descend along the Triglav ridge toward Dolič and further toward Zadnjica in Trenta.

Golica. We watched it for four days from the peaks above Pokljuka and so decided to climb it on Sunday. Several years have passed since the last visit. Ignoring the weather, we drove from Gorica over Vršič to Jesenice and up to Planine pod Golico. The valley had some sun but the view upwards was ugly. Wind chasing fog across the slope. No matter. We bit into the hill right from the start. Wind all the way. Short stop at the hut under Golica, then again into the steep grassy slope, wet, slippery and muddy in places, no snow on the path. From hut to summit strong SW wind, foggy, visibility 50 m. Summit: quick logbook entry, photo, down to the start.

On Friday 16.03 it was the last, already fourth day of enjoying Pokljuka, where one literally recharges batteries. For the end we chose Viševnik, which was also the most visited those days in beautiful sunny weather. Viševnik, as well as other peaks we visited, belong to the so-called "Pokljuški gamsi" trail (from Tosca to the last peak Debela peč), which we'll do in summer or autumn. So on Friday we left Blejska koča at Lipanca and descended to Šport hotel, from there drove to Rudno polje and up along the lift to Viševnik. Won't describe the path in detail as predecessors did many times. Just say that up the gully you can climb on hard snow or bare on summer path, all to the ridge with nice views to Bohinj range. Still snow in bushes but doesn't sink. Out of bushes path bare. At summit nice sunny and warm weather, which later slightly changed as wind picked up. Descent to start point without issues.

On the third day 15.03. we also visited the summit of Mrežce from Blejska hut at Lipanci. The path goes left from the hut first gently, then the terrain gets steeper and steeper. From the hut to the ridge the path is hard, almost icy. Further towards the forest and when we step out of it we go right to the highest point. Due to increasingly warmer weather the snow is south-facing and sinks to the knees. At the top of course wonderful views far around. Weather was sunny and warm, so we basked in the rays for a good 2 hours. Descended the ascent path.

On Wednesday 14.03 our goal was Debela peč. The start was at Šport hotel past Planina Zajavornik to Blejska koča na Lipanci. At some places the path was icy so the safest is to walk beside it. A bit below the hut, where it says "Pasture area Planina Lipanci", walking is safe through the valley and not on the path, as it is heavily icy. After a short break we continued towards Debela peč. On the way to the summit there was quite some snow and due to thaw it sank nicely in places. The final ascent was firm. After a short view and photos we descended and went to Okroglež then to the summit of Brda. The eastern ridge to Brda is fully under snow and it broke through to our asses. From Brda we descended the western side, where the ridge is firm. Where scree starts and all the way to the junction Brda – Debela peč it broke through to our knees again. From here after a short steep descent we reached Blejska koča na Lipanci, where we spent the night.

On Tuesday 13.03. my wife and I set off from Rudno polje on Pokljuka to Veliki Draški vrh. Snow starts above planina Konjščica, where paths join from Uskovnica or Pl. Konjščica. Some sections from Rudno polje are icy, so caution is needed. At Jezerci we turn left to Studorski preval. From there we turn right, cross the first short steep section and continue along the eastern slope of Veliki Draški vrh and tackle the steepness. On the way to the summit snow softened due to strong sun so we postholed in places. Towards the summit less snow so can go straight on snow or far right. The summit Veliki Draški vrh offers beautiful wonderful views far around so we enjoyed in the sun for 1.5 h. Descent via the western ridge which towards the end was a bit tricky as we had to find path through bushes to Studorski preval. From Ablanca summit locals watched us curiously. From there no more problems and frozen snow held my weight well.

Good day. Has anyone gone to Veliki Draški vrh or what are the snow conditions around there?

I figured it was you, Azael, when we talked about how it was at the top. We really had luck with the wind up there. rs56 up took us 3 hours 40 min, without straining, meanwhile also taking photos around. In my opinion, the hut is not open, at least not on weekdays, maybe on weekends but I doubt it, because no smoke from the chimney.

My wife and I also made the ascent from pl. Kuhinja to the top of Krn yesterday. A NE wind was blowing, strong especially down low; at Gomišček shelter it was calm when we arrived, the same for most of the way to the top, where it later blew lightly (around 13:30) but not like for those ahead of us a few hours earlier. There is really not much snow, but on the mulatiera it starts from the sign «S. Korena route very demanding». Due to the cooler night and day, the snow didn't sink and nicely bore my weight. Up and down without extra winter gear, but if conditions change, it will be useful already below the hut (ca. 500 m length and of course to the top). The north side of Krn toward Krn Lake and toward Batognica has way more snow and a real snowy idyll. Krn Lake is still under ice. Views toward Triglav, Mangart, Kanin range and Rodica wonderful, toward S and SW worse. At the top and shelter we lingered, basking in the sun's rays, for 1.5 hours. The descent flew by.

Yesterday we drove into Trnovski gozd. Our goal was Poldanovec. After ascent from the starting point for Poldanovec along the forest road we reach a junction where there's an info board. It shows a circular path, so you can reach Poldanovec summit from left or right side of the valley. The board also marks highest peaks (V. Bukovec, V. Češevnik and Mojski vrh). We did a circular path around the valley or basin of Mojska draga. We decided to continue right along the road, which is a bit longer. Interestingly, all paths and tracks in this valley are snow-covered or have drifts from 20 cm up to 2 m. On the circular path we reach a hut that's already gnawed by time, interesting fact is that workers once overnighted here when bringing wood from nearby hill, as there used to be a cableway uphill from this hut. When we arrive at the foot of Poldanovec it directs us right onto a cart track that steeply ascends and after 15 min reaches the summit, which is very panoramic. Unfortunately that day visibility to Julian Alps, Cerkno and Šentvid plateau wasn't optimal due to low clouds. From Poldanovec summit we continue on cart track that traverses down, and after few min of walking brings us to sharp right bend and we continue uphill on road, turn right past previously described info board. On return along the road, at top of the climb we turn right across small clearing onto cart track, which after few min steeply ascends and after 20 min we reach Mojski vrh (1313m), from which on nice weather you see the rest of Trnovski gozd. We finished our visit to Trnovska planota at Okrepčevalnica Lazna na Lazni, open on weekends.
