For the first ski touring trip we chose Dobratsch. Road well salted and dry. From parking lot to summit, lots of snow, though wind blows it strongly. Without wind, it would be too warm. In the hut good classic Slovenian lunch. After talk with waiter we learn about yesterday's crowd (over 500 people). Today, fewer visitors. Visibility far around.

The little gods with spread wings watched us from bird's eye view, but on solid ground we had no less fun than them. 
South snow, but zigzagging still enjoyable.

Going to Dobratsch is like attending a sports day.  Some were sledding, others walking, the third snowshoeing and of course there were those of us zigzagging in the sun and not too pleasant wind. Snow cover thickness is sparingly dosed and though it goes great on 'celcu', it's mostly luck that the skis made it without scratches.

Road to parking normally drivable (a bit of snow towards the end), path to summit excellent, no ice. Today almost no wind and still quite sunny. Excellent choice also for skiers.

Dobratsch has always been a mountain that didn't arouse my interest. Even more, with that tower on top it actually repelled me more. Most of the time I didn't even give it a look, if at all, just fleetingly.
From Saturday on, when I got closer to it, I don't think like that anymore, as walking this vast mountain range really thrilled me. Maybe it was the still snowy appearance at this time, or the beautiful sunny day that powerfully revealed all peaks in near and far surroundings, from Julians and Carnics on one side and the chain of snowy High Turs on the other.
But what charmed me most was that first view of the summit you catch when climbing the snowy road and in one moment when you step from behind the bend, you stand before its mighty face. The beauty you see before you stops your step and breath and pins you in place, as you didn't expect such a magical view.
And then you're closer to that picture with every step. But it's not possible, how can this be that summit that repelled you every time you spotted it from anywhere.
If this sight leaves you cold, the summit stroll from one little church to the other will surely excite you, when you can't decide which is actually prettier, more attractive. When leaving one and admiring the other, you can't help looking back and forth again, in between carefully stepping over the narrow exposed pathlet that separates one from the other.
Yes, and you have to step to the top cross and summit views you shouldn't miss, though you have to wait a bit for a free passage to the top after the path.
But many Slovenes didn't think so on Saturday, as we saw only two more cars with our plates on the parking lot.
It pleasantly surprised us also how many people tried to return greetings in Slovenian upon meeting.

Nice. Why do mountaineers sometimes have such a disdainful attitude to some mountain? Are those foreigners we placed there ourselves? And not in vain Good mountain!
