peter2, where in Bohinj was this taken?
Namely today, 14.4. along the footpath from Ukanc to Ribčev laz we noticed a similar snake, about half a meter long, crawling right by the path, due to grass I couldn't distinguish the head (if it's really modras), obviously it was retreating from us.
We didn't manage to take a picture because we preferred to watch it (a couple of foreigners too) and because I held my dog on the side ...
Interesting encounter!

You might have run into an adder or modras. There are most of these snakes in Bohinj. Adders are actually everywhere, modras like sunny slopes like the north side of Lake Bohinj (under Pršivec) by Stara Fužina and under Studor. Modras are mating right now (also on my photos). Then they are not so shy and you can get a bit closer. Of course not too much
