Backpack

Hehe, basically I agree that people have gone crazy with consumerism and buy stuff they don't need. But it's also true that personally I'd sooner give up many other gear items than the bladder. For me, not needing to take off the backpack every 15 min for those three sips of drink is worth way more than 30 eur. For some cotton t-shirts or even flannel shirts suffice completely.. sure it works but way more comfy and nice with švic t-shirts.

Back then they even used wooden chocks; today no one thinks of that.. so not all is just consumerism, some things are actually useful velik nasmeh

Zebdi, I don't know well where this hysteria of constant drinking came from, but I suspect it's also a consumer scam. "Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate" - sounds familiar? There's no professional basis for it and not long ago we lived fine even during major, prolonged efforts without drinking. The human body is much tougher than various pseudo-experts try to impose on us, who try to sell their version of "comfort". After all, if comfort is the main thing in life, why bother with mountains at all! zavijanje z očmi

I haven't really bothered much with this, experts can go hang for me, but I just prefer to slowly sip that water rather than gulp half a liter every hour.

Debating comfort makes no sense. If someone likes to drink from a canteen, let them. If someone wants to suck on a hemp straw in a wooden bung, let them. Likewise I don't forbid anyone a walk from Solčava to Logarska - all for the memory of old times velik nasmeh

Did you feel like I was forbidding anyone anything? Not in the least. Live your comfortable life comfortably if you like it.
But I fight practically every day against the dumbing down of the human species by greedy corporations that press on our fears and desires with the basest psychological tricks.

Only you really have it hard. So you won't use the bladder and that's it and I don't know why you make a problem out of it and stir up the whole mess.
For me the bladder is one of the best things, both on the bike and on longer hikes. For hydration everyone knows for themselves how, what, how much and when. I don't drink even a tiny bit more because of using the bladder than when I have my drink in a bottle or canteen. The difference is only whether I drink more often a little, which the bladder allows me, or less often more. And the first option suits me much better, especially since I have to watch for enough fluid intake, especially during physical activity. Most often on longer tours I have both. In the bladder usually water, in the canteen some Cedevita or similar. And beer in bottlesvelik nasmeh after the tour of course

No worries, I'll continue happily "sipping" and enjoy it endlessly. It's just an extremely practical and useful thing and I use it with pleasure. If I've let myself be dumbed down by greedy corporations because of it, then I'm glad I did.
It's interesting how you immediately label as stupid and unnecessary everything you don't use or deal with. And on top you insult users who have a different opinion.
Best regards.

Guys, keep calm. Everyone do as they like. I for example have a 3/4 liter bottle tucked in the net on each side of the backpack and I'm used to reaching for the bottle without taking off the backpack, drink and put it back. A buddy made himself a tube, mouthpiece and stopper for drinking and I could list more. Everyone is the blacksmith of their own happiness and manages as much as their inventiveness and imagination allow. The important thing is to enjoy, because a lot is also in our heads regarding how much needs to be drunk. Well, greetings to all.

Take care.

The bladder is very useful for sports where hands do constant work, e.g. uphill cycling, via ferratas in mountains, mountain running and similar.
Otherwise there's no devil that you couldn't stop every hour, reach into the backpack and sip something. Also in winter the bladder isn't usable because the tube freezes already below around -5C.

What all.. velik nasmeh

@SamoK, I was just interested in opinions on which bladder to buy, that I'll have it is already clear anyway, because it's much more comfortable than taking off the backpack every 15 minutes as @Zebdi said, and even a regular bottle or canteen is around 20eur in the store, bladder 10eur more, if we're looking at consumerism. I usually have drink in a regular bottle, but why not have a bladder which is more handy. And even if you drink every hour it's not necessary for others too. I for example every 10-15 minutes take 2-3 sips, because then I feel better and it suits me. Who cares how long the body lasts, what then you don't eat for days, since the body lasts days without food? Everyone do what they want, the main thing is we enjoy the mountains and have a good time, who cares if someone drinks from bottle or bladder and who spends how much on gear.

That you have to drink every 15 minutes, I'll never understand that. Let someone prove to me that it's essential for the human body.zmeden
No form of liquid container bothers me at all, just to be clear.

On 3.9.2011 my colleague and I set off from Krma past Planika to Triglav and back on a very hot Saturday around 5am. On the way I drank 1.25l of plain water with magnesium effervescent tabs, ate one small apple and a banana. The whole way despite scorching sun, especially on Konjsko sedlo-Planika section, I enjoyed, no cramps or headaches just the sun slightly burned me. We managed the route in 7 hours 15 min, 4h45 ascent and 2.5h descent. So I also don't see sense in unnecessary pouring of liquid and definitely join user SamoK's thinking that our body in evolution era was forced to adapt to many things and is really tougher than we think. A lot is in the head too. If something has to be done, it gets done with less means too. People have different values, which is fine. And don't take this post as boasting, posted it just for comparison. I'm not an athlete, recreationally I do more aerobic disciplines (running, cycling, swimming,...).

Take care.

I met an Italian doctor in the Dolomites and he climbed right with us on a much harder tour than a walk to Triglav. The guy had no water. We offered him water but he didn't want it. He said he doesn't drink or eat during the day. You can't believe it, he was more than 20 years older than us and we never had to wait for him. The tour lasted 15h..

I also count among those who practically don't eat or drink on tours. Some food and drink is in the backpack just in case, but mostly it arrives in the valley unused.

we're just different. if someone wants to drink every 15 min from the bladder, let them. not my problem, just as mine isn't that I practically don't drink.

same with everything else. after years struggling with quick-drying shirts, I went to the mountains again in a cotton shirt. For me 100x better. I wouldn't trade a cotton shirt for anything in the world. When it's completely soaked, I just change to another.

let everyone hike as suits them.

You write: . . . "The bladder is very useful for sports where hands do constant work" . . .

Does that mean when you're thinking your attic you have the bladder on your dick and slowly suck it . . . zmeden
