Northern approach (very demanding path from saddle Kanja or Kanskega pass - reachable from both Bavšica and Zadnja Trenta - and even more direct path from Zadnja Trenta) is still closed.

Two paths are still available - from Bavšica along SW ridge (demanding, poorer markings) and from Soča, which is the longest and a very hot approach in summer.

what is the path from Soča like. Anything collapsed?
If someone hiked there recently.

Sunday 17.09.2023. The parking for two vehicles was full. So I left the vehicle in front of the church. We started walking a bit late with Maksi, quarter to eight. When we arrived at Lemovje I heard a voice. I knew it was hunter Milan. Maksi, Maksi. He had seen us. Then he came after us. Short chat and we said goodbye. Still a long path ahead. Break at the hunting hut. There a hiker caught up with us. When I already thought we would be last. We continued on the familiar path. Someone was already descending. Higher up an older couple with a dog. They said they were returning from the summit. Clouds were descending all along the path. The wind also blew. When I thought we were arriving at the summit in grayness, the sky decided differently. Already before the entrance to the gully the blue appeared. And it stayed that way until I descended last. Then the summit donned a gray cloak. Interesting views there were. White sea in the valley. The Kanin range was no longer visible at all. It was as befits a Sunday.

when you next park next to the church, go and see the frescoes by Tone Kralj. Wonderful, interesting, provocative, especially regarding the time and circumstances of creation. If you don't find Mussolini, knock on the first house next to the church or one of them, they will gladly help you find the Duce, if you don't yourself nasmeh

Wednesday 27.09.2023. I've had Bavarian Grintavec in mind for a long time, but somehow I couldn't gather the courage. Not because of the path length, but because of the upper part of the path. With the thought that I can still turn back if it doesn't go, I park at the starting point and set off. The higher I climb, the warmer it got; in summer it must be really hot here. The path to Planina nad Sočo passed quickly and I enjoy the wonderful views. When the path reaches the screes, you need to step a bit more thoughtfully, but no panic. Before the gully I wait for the path to empty. Three are just descending and three dogs too. It took quite a while to get the dogs safely down. I could thoroughly check how the path is routed. Going up I had no issues and after a good 15 minutes I'm at the top. Alone. Views. All around. No clouds. At the top it was quite cold and windy, so soon I turn back to the valley. Down was harder than up. Really careful where I step. When I descend through the gully, I admit, I breathe a sigh of relief. The harder part is behind me. Below the gully two are waiting to go up. We wish each other a safe path. At the hunting hut I treat myself to a longer break and some martinček.
Bavarian Grintavec I don't know if it will see me again, but Planina nad Sočo must be fairytale-like when the larches turn golden. It's already planned for one of the next Octobers.

30.9. from Bavšica along the ridge to Bavarian Grintavec and descent to Soča.

Wonderful day in the kingdom of ibex (and deer velik nasmeh).
Start in Bavšica at 7am; right away my buddy and I heard familiar sounds - deer rutting. It accompanied us for at least 2 more hours, at times quite close. Nice addition to the otherwise steep path, with various associations quite some laughter.
At the junction for Sedlo Kanja new direction signs are installed. At the "Soča 7h" we noted it's one of the longer times on these signs. Upon reaching the ridge a nice surprise awaited us - freshly marked path! nasmeh
This greatly eased progress. If I think of my searching for faded marks 3 years ago...
Continuation from Mali Grintavec quite interesting, ridge picturesque, descent on scree slow and "for sure". Here we met a group of young ibex. They warned others of our presence with a special kind of whistling that kept us laughing for a while.
Almost alone at the top, followed by the less pleasant part of the tour - descent to Soča village. Glad we chose September for the tour. Temperatures just right.
The tour is quite demanding, ascent from Bavšica quite steep. On the ridge and scree need careful steps. Otherwise mountain delight.

App calculated 1750 m ascents and 1950 m descents for me.

From Mali Grintavec the path descends. Downwards. Quite scree-like as I remember. Then some more ascent. From Bavšica it adds up to 1850m elevation. I remember when we were there with Marijan, two more hikers came after us. The older gentleman didn't believe the path goes down. Well, part of it. He took the map and convinced himself it's true. To Mali Grintavec is a fine tour for one day and unstable weather. Congratulations. nasmeh

It's been quite some time already, if I'm not mistaken. Obviously there's no intention to fix it or it's not possible.
