Bavarian Grintavec

Along the Bavšica valley it's dry, if you mean through Tesni to Bukovec pasture then maybe you'd need something already.
Regarding the path Soča - Lemovje - Planina nad Sočo - Bavski Grintavec, there are no pegs on the mentioned path, the path is not exposed to cliffs, the summit part is somewhat harder on rocky terrain but nothing dramatic. Of course I advise against this path in the current hot summer, it is very sun-exposed, no water on the path. The danger is the same as everywhere in the high mountains, slip, snake bite, lightning, fall... I always advise not to rely on net answers, get a guidebook—there are plenty—and prepare properly for the tour. I recommend Mihelič's Julian Alps guide, almost everything is there.

Today I was there for the first time on Bavski Grintavec. Went from Soča village. The path is nice, not too steep. It's true, almost half the path has high grass-(snakes,...). Well, g.triglavski wrote it all nicely anyway. Lucky I took 4L of watervelik nasmeh. LPP

Now imagine CCK group of 30 thirsty hikers from full-day tour (then we had 1l canteens) and at Bala water flowed from the pipe like distilling brandy. And there was always a pot of hot tea waiting for us in the camp (Bavščica)..
When we have mountaineering chats and recall memories - thirst in Bavščica valley is always mentioned!

Geppo, you're right. I too was always thirsty in those areas, whether walking above Bala and Prevalo or above Bukovec pasture. And I always had more with me than needed ?!? zadrega
Before the hunters rerouted the water, no issues in Bala, it always flowed nicely...

Today I was with family on the summit. Start 5.15, summit 10.10 with total half-hour break. Great view from the summit with wind that really froze us. Path is really nice with views of our peaks. But about half the path high grass that nicely soaked our pants and shoes.

Hi
Bavarian Grintavec is very high and I am slower. Does anyone know if possible to sleep at some pasture? Looks like direct path has no more snow. Thanks

Pl. Zapotok has a hut that's a closed hunting hut on one side, open porch with roof on the other. Can sleep in emergency. Take some mat and sleeping bag and it'll be ok. Pasture has a stream on the left.

What's the latest on snow patches from start Zadnja Trenta over Kanski pass?

Regarding pasture Zapotok, this year's snow collapsed that shelter, don't know if totally to ground or if repaired. Regarding snow, good it's there, walking more comfortable. But even if there, can kick steps, even Rožle wasn't hurt when slipped running from Bedanc. If had ice axe would have carved it. Anyway some patches still, but always possible to turn back if can't go on.

Two days ago went from Zadnja Trenta over Kanja saddle to summit then easier down. At pl. Zapotok shepherd hut in quite bad condition but can sleep in it. All to Kanja saddle and to summit path completely dry. Fixed protections in good condition. On return via easier path - that's between Kanski pass and summit right down to pl.Zapotok - lower under wall crosses two larger snow patches. Both quite gentle, snow soft - so no ice axe or crampons needed. Upper part of path very loose and full of scree. Described path among very difficult (from Kanja saddle) so self-belay and helmet mandatory. Path well marked with dense marks somewhat faded but still visible. Recommend start at least at 6am - under 5 hours to summit. For me one of the nicest in Julijske.

matic4, from 5 hours to summit, how much do you think to pasture Zapotok and how much further to summit? If I go, will sleep at pasture and then go easier path to summit, hope that path is well marked. Thanks.

To pl. Zapotok count on 2 hours of walking, because you need to cross the whole valley, then in the forest some climbs, from the pasture to the summit another three hours.

marko55 from parking at ramp to pl. Zapotok count 1h 30'. The "easier" path is well marked but very demanding (less than from Kanja saddle). The path in the upper part is full of scree, descent therefore very demanding. Already to pl. Zapotok the path is quite demanding but very well protected with cables and pegs. Much easier path goes from village Soča - unfortunately not suitable now due to sun exposure.

Yesterday we also set off from Zadnja Trenta via Planina Zapotok to Bavski Grintavec. We chose the easier left-direct route (consciously risking use of this name, regardless of Triglavski's opinion). The path on screes under the north face is partly still under snow, but it doesn't affect walking safety. Otherwise the day was perfect for mountain visits, although occasionally crowded in the wall. On descent we were especially alert to falling rocks and scree triggered by hikers above us. Ascent took 4h30min, descent in 4 hours.
