Ascent just as the predecessor described; Ljubelj, Born Tunnel, Prevala, Kalvarija, Begunjščica, Roblek about 4 hours walk. For the return, I would recommend via Završnica valley. From Roblek descend to Završnica valley on fairly steep scree approx. 1/2 hour. When the terrain levels off, another half hour and you're at Iskrina Hut at the source of Završnica. 15 minutes to Zelenica and another half hour to Ljubelj. Very nice circular tour

Interested how the approach via Šentanski plaz to Begunjščica is. In winter I already went this path, wonder if in summer it's trodden or pure pathless. Regards Stane.

Yesterday together with my wife I did the ascent on this route. I must say that Calvary really deserves the name especially yesterday when the path was very muddy and slippery. The signpost was annoying, announcing only 15 minutes to the top, since even though I sped up my step I didn't reach it in that time. I would also mention that at the top there is no logbook or it is already full. So I suggest to next Begunjščica visitors to take some notebook that could replace the logbook. From the top we went to Roblek. Since it suddenly clouded over and became dark, we returned via Rožca to Prevala and through Born Tunnel to the path start. So we didn't fully manage the path we planned, i.e. return via Zelenica. Still nice tour. Lp Branči

Yes, Calvary in wet weather is quite strenuous especially for descent. Recommend descent (if not heading elsewhere) to Zelenica. Logbook was full already ten days ago, don't know why not replace it? Times marked on signposts and boards take with reserve and that in "both directions". Personally don't check them as never wear watch. LP

Absolutely agree with branči and 66 regarding times on signposts on this wonderful tour, and also some marking on path from top via Calvary to Preval wouldn't hurt, especially in fog. On 14.10. with wife did tour Ljubelj - Preval (1.15)-via Roža to Roblekov dom(3.30)- to summit(1.30)-via Calvary to Preval(1.30) Time from start to 1/3 Calvary(to forest) includes 50 DIA photos and multiple immeasurable enjoyment of views. Absolutely recommend said tour or path via Zelenica which is easier than via Calvary, especially in wet conditions (due to steepness slip risk).

Today's goal - Begunjščica. With Janez off to Ljubelj and along ski slope towards Zelenica. Fog, visibility 20 meters. 100m above middle chairlift station we agree to go to top of lift then turn if no change. Right after, step by step better visibility and after 20m idyll. Can't believe, cloudless. Before upper station turned to central gully, previous tracks quite drifted by wind so we plowed. Higher for safety crampons and ice axe on, found track straight up. Skier track made. Ascent very nice, upper gully part a bit windy. Summit fantastic views, no wind, then descent same route. Descent excellent, majestic views. LP Andrej

Did you take so few photos? The two pics are beautiful. If you have more I'd like to see them.

Has anyone gone to Begunjščica via Šentanski plaz in the last few days? What are the conditions, trodden or sinking?

Hi, today Peter and I were at Šentanski plaz. Very dense fog, cca 5m visibility. Snow hard in strips somewhere breaks through. Far left looking up is hard and suitable for ascent and descent. If temps even lower, icy because sleeting from fog. Good luck.

On Sunday I was on Begunjščica via Šentanski plaz. The path was trodden but due to high temperatures it occasionally collapsed anyway. I think the conditions after yesterday's snowfall are now completely different. Greetings

What is the path to Begunjščica past Tomčeva hut and Roblekov dom like? I'm interested in snow amount and safety re avalanches and slip risk in summit part. Thanks for any info -

I was on Begunjščica yesterday (Sunday 20.apr.) Via Kalvarija. Path not trodden at all, didn't push to summit as visibility 0, windy, lots of windblown snow too, so too dangerous for my experience... lp.

Road to Poljska planina in quite solid condition (ok with normal car). Path to Roblek O.K. further to Begunjščica also with some care. Snow melting a lot so won't hold long. Matej

On Saturday 21.06.08 we visited Begunjščica from the direction of Poljska Planina. The path is very varied and interesting, and the summit offered a wonderful view.

The weather forecast for Sunday morning was quite good, showers only in the afternoon they said. But before the sea I had to use the day for another trip to our beautiful mountains. At half past six in the morning it didn't look too good, but I optimistically headed to Draga anyway. I figured it would clear up by mid-morning. From Draga to Preval, where at eight o'clock fog still reigned, and it started to drizzle, so I quickly bit into the slope towards Kalvarija to hide from the wetness in the forest. After an hour of walking, below the top of Kalvarija I put on long pants and pulled on my windbreaker. On the ridge it was blowing quite hard, so I sought shelter from the wind on the Zeleniško side. At the top, the sun almost overcame the fog for a few moments, but it won despite my forty-minute wait. Well, the views will be next time. Fog is good sometimes too, as in it you rediscover the path that you could walk in a trance in good weather. After many years I also stopped at the hut on Roblek to 'stamp' the new map, and I checked out the old fallen thick fir above Poljska Planina. Despite the bad weather, the now pilgrimage path to Roblek was quite well visited.
