Yesterday I think every peak in our mountains had its visitor. The weather was really wonderful. I visited Begunjščica, ascended alone via Šentanski Plaz. I would like to warn all those who will climb this path that right before exiting onto the ridge there is a very large serac, which is heavily torn from the upper side with a 1m wide crack lengthwise about 20m. Therefore, in my opinion, extreme caution is advised at this spot.

You're already tiring with that cracked serac that's been like that for about 3 weeks. OK, sooner or later it will fall, but if you think it's really that likely, then write that ascent or descent of this gully is too dangerous and we shouldn't go there, not that extreme caution is needed. Or rather, what caution? How should I act (extremely cautiously?) to prevent the serac from breaking off just at the moment when I'm under it?

It's good that every mountaineer warns and reports on mountain conditions. But the serac can break off anytime, especially with the first thaw or gust of wind! It means that safety on this path is definitely not guaranteed.

Beautiful photos and a very appropriate warning!

I see that with such messages I tire some quite a bit, in the future I won't disturb serious messages and debates anymore. Best regards.

Hi, I'm interested from which direction one gets to Šentanski Plaz? What's the condition of the path from Roblek? Regards

Strelec, you don't "disturb" at all, such warnings are in place, that's what the forum is for, right? What "extreme caution" means, let each judge for themselves. For me, e.g., who count myself among the inexperienced in winter conditions and among the "safety freaks" that means "don't push up" . So thanks for such warnings and please continue in the future.

Strelec keep it up and I'm glad that I can follow warnings here too, because safety is first, so don't give in to such "know-it-alls" who know everything. Just courageously and safe steps in the mountains smile I'm interested if anyone knows what the gully is like for skiing, because apparently it's icy and torn up. Thanks for the answer

On Sunday 11.01. I also went to Begunjščica via Šentanski plaz. Conditions super, with mandatory gear of course. Up top sun awaited me and again wonderful views. It really was the right day for the hills!

Strelec, isn't that terrible opast more of a problem than the torn-up plaz?

Ugn, make us happy and go check out that terrible opast up close. The more that's written the more that's known.

Today via Roblek towards the summit: very windblown - (it was collapsing). Since I didn't have a good feeling, snow sticking to my crampons, I turned back below the summit. Met another hiker and a skier. On return at Roblek (where there was a big crowd today) two more going that way. Well, later - much lower, already below Planinica, it started rumbling. Hope those up there made it. I think regarding steep grassy south slopes it is necessary to warn about serious avalanche danger.

Yesterday I went up via Šentjanžev plaz, the thing has avalanched, only stones in the gully flying from windblown peaks, on top it's pretty well torn up... Otherwise I skied down here too, need to search for nice passages - flat flanks and it goes

On Begunjščica, I was on 26.2., ascent from Zelenica via gully Y, descent via central gully. Both gullies were enjoyable. Then we went climbing in gully Poni, conditions for climbing were not good there, as snow was not bonded yet and not firm enough for climbing.

Today Janez and I also set off for Begunjščica. On Šentanski plaz conditions for ascent and skiing were very good today. Snow above plaz in both branches was hard and nicely skiable (we skied each one branch), likewise in the lower part. Track is nicely made and followable. Everything else holds as the dancer wrote. The only downside of the nice day was strong wind depriving us of sitting and sunbathing in warm rays. Descent fantastic. LP Andrej

I was up there on 17.1. Gotta jump up again one day to check the summit a bit. If anyone else is interested, we could arrange something and go up together.

I advise against the ascent for a few days. Everything is soaked.

Today we ascended from Ljubelj via Šentanski plaz to Begunjščica. Snow was breaking in the lower part of the plaz, higher it was relatively firm but not icy. LP Rok and Tadej
