Many real mountaineers would be grateful if you organize your loud partying and parties where there are suitable spaces for that. Noise that disturbs people and animals. Just on Roblek it's unbearable every year, and then you boast about such pollution of nature. The profit from such parties is really big, but it has nothing to do with real enjoyment in the mountains and genuine hiking. I strongly hope that for your relaxation you find a suitable place. Enjoy, but leave peace and quiet to us and the animals in the mountains, which the mountains offer.

If someone thinks that with their comment they can somewhat change the "current conditions", at least check the date of the post they want to comment on, so they don't come off so badly "behind the times", like sonka for example... Best wishes!

I also have nothing against such gatherings. People need to have fun and if they do it safely in the mountains, it's not wrong. I think they didn't cause significantly more noise than on a normal day.

This really doesn't belong in "current conditions", so I apologize in advance. But I would ask Tadej if he could sometime in the future (maybe after we agree where the New Year's party will be), post in the poll something like this question: "Are you in favor of having parties like those at Roblek at mountain huts, especially those above the tree line, and flying musicians' instruments up there by helicopter, as it was this year?" If there aren't at least 80% against it, we can just close the mountain hut, because everyone is already laughing at us when we mountain folk talk about how we protect nature. As I understand it, we go to the mountains because it's different up there than in the valley. Apparently not anymore. People need to bring valley habits to the mountains too. I really like local music, Avsenik's especially, but not from loud speakers in the middle of the mountains! And don't worry about me, I'll move away from the noise in time, there's already more than enough of it in the valley, although it's true that I listened to that very party a few years ago on the demanding pathless western ridge of Vrtača. Yes, it carries far ... http://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/37623/#19700101010000 I'm much more concerned about the bad example that mountaineering clubs give with such events and the thinking of a young guy like Bojan. If you know how, open another thread and explain to me there how "people need to have fun in the mountains in a safe way."

Hi Gorazd! It seems to me that Bojan didn't mean to say in his post that he supports noise in the mountains, actually I'm sure he basically advocates the opposite, i.e. what you write about. Maybe something should be said about permitted decibels of noise that arises as a product of fun in the mountains (mid-mountains).. Under "safe way" he probably meant relaxing without or in limited amounts of alcohol consumed. As for music in the hills and mountains, let me say that in our areas decades and more ago, parties happened more or less there, but of course they couldn't have been too loud, since they didn't know electricity or sound amplifiers. As for today, I think that e.g. Roblek and Golica (or elsewhere), are specific points where we will often hear, or have to listen to at least the sound of an accordion. In any case, it's right that we are sensitive in terms of sound intensity. Best regards heinz!

Oh yes, our group too, many years ago (we're measuring in decades already, my god how time flies) sometimes hauled an accordion into the high mountains and you could hear it e.g. on top of Triglav, on the Kanjavec ledges, not to mention the Valley of the Seven Lakes (there might be some picture). It was always very nice for us in Tamar (caretaker Marjan - the one you remember, especially from his song: Tamar, Tamar, there under the Ponci...., you'll know how far back the memory goes). Also in KSA, which is closer to us Styrians, you could hear us with accordion and I tell you, we had a greaaaat time. We probably scared some chamois, but no serious problems were felt, except sore heads in the early morning after much too short sleep, when we had to continue the desired tour. Of course our "decibels" didn't even come close (although we sometimes tried veeery hard, hehe) to today's values.

Today went to Begunjščica from Ljubelj Pass, along the ski slope path to the hut at Zelenica, then through the central gully to the top of Begunjščica. Returned via Šentanski couloir. To Zelenica the path goes along the ski slope or on the road for hut supply and no problems, further on in the lower part of the gully there's quite a bit of unprocessed, dry and partly wind-packed snow that sinks to the knees and over (tiring). In the gully itself conditions are better, hard compacted snow that's not icy. There were also some ski tourers, who say half a meter of snow is missing for ideal skiing.

Just a question: for tomorrow would it be advisable to go to the top, or not? up and down through the central gully, after work start at 14h?

As you already got answer, if you start at 14h there shouldn't be any problem, but take headlamp with you obligatory (I believe you always have it anyway). LP Andrej

Start, temp at Ljubelj -10°C, up and down 2.45h. Snow at start of Osgrapa collapsing, then hard and ideal (crampons necessary), at top windblown and a bit icy. Midway it started blowing, at top already strong wind + cold, but I don't give up. I put on all I have, take pics, view wonderful. I head back down same path, flying down. Didn't meet anyone, not even choughs, only some skiers at Zelenica. My first fall in ,,grapa,, - Šentanski plaz. lp Grega

Hi! Has anyone been to Begunjščica in previous days? I'm wondering if the path from Roblekov dom to the top of Begunjščica is trodden? And, are crampons needed?

I strongly advise you to go from Zelenica. Ridge too exposed. Plus "foehn" might cause trouble. Of course crampons and thus ice axe mandatory! Wait a bit more till it settles or blows off. Snow not bonded to ground - snow slab avalanches. South slope if you slip...

Geolog, thanks for quick reply, helpful. Several options for weekend, still weighing where to go... today people said to Roblekov dom easy no problems, then thought how further - you're right, ridge and south side with this snow more dangerous combo... anyway, thanks!

I agree with geolog79. Don't go from Roblek towards the top!

No, from Roblekov dom yesterday, it wasn't trodden yet. That such a winter approach to Begunjščica is the least sensible, predecessors have already said.

Not the most promising weather forced me to an early start at Ljubelj. The weather seemed it might get even worse. Already at Zelenica it was blowing hard. So I decided not to go into the central gully, but via Šentanc. The slope was entirely icy and without crampons and ice axe it wouldn't have gone. Only towards the top and on the approach part the crust broke through here and there. On the Begunjščica ridge it was blowing hard, some wind gusts strong enough to move me. Descent via Kalvarija (tedious and icy) and through Born's tunnels, where a snow squall caught me.
