Summer is long gone but still some migrants.
In summer in the field in Duplje.1
This swallow however is not from our groves - photographed at 2500m in Italy - Dolomites - it is the crag martin - Hirundo rupestris.2
The bird feeder has been on the cherry tree since 1 October.3
The nuthatches are already here.4
Also a photo of the great spotted woodpecker from last year.5

Hi,

GITA, on your first three photos there are alpine accentors (female and 2 males). On the last one there is the rock sparrow. Where did you photograph it?

tulipan, reason for "crooked-billed" wallcreeper is not physical injury. Say, if bird hits obstacle, it doesn't twist bill but breaks it. Such birds die quickly. "Crooked-billed" birds can appear in all species. Reason is in faulty/damaged/mutated DNA on genes that "manage" keratin. DNA damage causes can be viruses too. All leads to deformed bill development. But such specimens can live many years anyway. There are species that evolved mismatched or crossed bill due to feeding through evolution. In Slovenia most known such species is the common crossbill. Everyone who goes to mountains has surely heard it, if not seen nasmeh often fly in small flocks over coniferous mountain forests and scrub, loudly and continuously calling with "clicking" calls. Crossed bill serves them for husking seeds from cones.

Ločanka, yes they are fieldfares. They are migratory birds, pass over us in variously sized flocks. Many exceed 100, even 1000 individuals.

Hi,

has anyone observed cranes migrating these days? Grey birds, size and shape similar to storks. Usually fly in flocks (characteristic V formation) and very noisy. If anyone saw / heard / photographed them, please share your observation (place, date, time, flight direction, number of individuals (at least approx.), photo) nasmeh

For the second year I'm watching the migration of cranes over our area, wanted to post a photo, but the computer crapped out. Last year we photographed them, this year not, so let someone tell what's happening?
Never before have these birds flown over our area.
Regards!

Ninđa, great photos! That really loud and large flock (550 individuals) was spotted by many Maribor residents that day nasmeh They say they were so loud you could hear them through closed windows...

Gorolazka, which direction were they flying? The general direction of autumn crane migration over Slovenia is from east to west/southwest.

Jprim, over which area did they fly and where were they headed? Do you remember the date and time of the flyover and approximate number of birds? Such basic data is important, as it allows us to limit duplication/summing of the same flocks, and also to map migration corridors over Slovenia. Even last year's data (photo) would interest me a lot nasmeh In favorable weather conditions, cranes can fly anywhere. We've seen them flying over open sea, and also over the highest peaks of the Julian Alps

@Ornitolog, thanks a lot. I photographed the alpine sparrow in the Dolomites, at the Lagazuoi hut (2750 m) above Passo Falzarego.

Geese are really loud, even when flying in pairs, let alone when the whole flock is together. They fly very low and I have them over my head several times a day, even thirty or more together. That's chatterzavijanje z očmi....but now it's quiet.
