In current high-altitude conditions, as far as I'm concerned, you must have an ice axe with you. Even if 10 people ahead of you crossed some snowfield without using it. Brana is a good example here. A few of us were up there. Everyone has different information, everyone is differently physically fit, some are more experienced, everyone went a bit differently, etc. Take an ice axe with you, no worries, and use it if conditions require it based on your skills, experience, etc.

Yesterday on Brana from Okrešlja... path OK, still snowfields above the zigzag... snowfields below Brana can be avoided by going on the path to Cojzova koča and then joining the marked path to Brana on the left... further on the path is dry, cables OK too... visibility was a bit bad because of fog forming from the Kamniška side... regarding Planjava I can't say but I agree with Tadej... ice axe always with you for some time more lp

klin84 - are crampons needed?

You don't need them or so I'll say if you want to slip into the snowfield under Brana, maybe elsewhere, I didn't have them with me... ice axe is definitely useful

At such high temperatures the path to Brana gets drier every moment.

On Saturday (28. 6. 2014) I was on Brana - ice axe and crampons stayed in the backpack, snow bypassed, between rocks all dry. I recommend a helmet - of course everywhere in high mountains.

In the afternoon to Kamniški Dedec, then down to the junction and to Brana too, no winter gear needed, path a bit lower than dry conditions, higher over scree no problem, from Logarska side still snowfield under wall visible, Turski žleb still has it, Planjava some snowfields, Repov kot too. On top around 18.00, home here, time no issue.

Ljubitelj gora, is path from Kamniški Dedec to Brana well traceable, how does it run? Saturday in these parts and not best known to me yet.

So you go forward, not back same path 500m?

Go forward, always forward, traveler, even on descent.

Can't go straight on. Descended cca 500m height difference to the junction "path not to Kamniško sedlo", then from cca 1100m a.s.l. continued towards Kam.sedlo and Brana on the marked path.

If you go to Dedec you'll leave marked path to Kamniško sedlo at same junction you'll return to later. Then just continue marked ahead. That jump to Dedec from junction takes two hours.

So is the path to Brana dry? No snow patches? I would go from Slap Rinka.

Does anyone know current conditions on Brana after recent weather? Especially if any snow. Planning up on Saturday, if weather somewhat ok. Thanks.
