This morning I parked at the arranged parking lot Mače nad Predvorom.
In the afternoon upon return I noticed they broke into my car very professionally if it weren't for the wide open doors I wouldn't have noticed at all. Luckily no damage because I don't leave anything in the vehicle. At this location they've broken in already the second time. First time they did quite some damage opening the doors. So much as a warning to all who hike from Mače towards Storžič
best regards.jezen

I hope you reported it to the police? And I hope everyone who this happens to does it even if they don't have comprehensive insurance and even if nothing was stolen (because nothing was found). That way maybe the police will occasionally check such places since otherwise the areas where people park to go hiking probably aren't in patrol plans.

Burglaries happen on Pokljuka too. Luckily they couldn't break into our carnasmeh (GETZ), because it can't be unlocked like others, but they did quite some damage with the attempt jezen.

Yesterday there were break-ins in Polog below Javorec and in Zadnjica, calling 113 to report suspicious movements won't cost you anything, but it can help chase away those known loafers who have no business on these parking lots.

Rotten gang, now they've also targeted Posočje, damn them. jezen The problem is that even if you have nothing in the car, they can cause considerable damage. Triglavski is right, call 113 immediately and report. And publish on the internet as a warning. It's impossible to expect police to do regular patrols in such remote places, as they can't even in larger cities.
Maybe before the trip stick a paper on the windshield with a warning:
Dear thief, I have nothing in the car that would be useful to you. Please, don't break in. Thank you! velik nasmeh

you made me laugh, turbo, but that way you piss them off even more and they do even more damage, mainly because of insolence,.....jezen

Katjuša2, you're right.
Maybe it would be better to write the following:
Dear Mr. Thief, I have two snakes in the car. If you don't believe, open the car and look. If you dare?!? zmeden

dear female hikers and hikers, mountaineers,...

12 years I worked as a criminalist and have a lot of experience among others with property crimes (break-ins into vehicles,....) As far as I know, to the parking lots where mountain visitors park, for the purpose of breaking into vehicles, gypsies come from Dolenjska, Bela Krajina, Posavje and maybe from somewhere else (I'm from Bela Krajina and I know this, even romani informants told me that their gypsies go breaking into vehicles "where Kekec lived"). They do most car break-ins, they break in very professionally so you don't notice the break-in right away at all, but if it doesn't work, they usually damage out of anger.

On parking lots pay attention to vehicles of mid and higher price range, reg. areas NM,KK,LJ, in the vehicle at least three or four, some don't even have gypsy appearance. When preparing for the trip or back from the trip, be alert to NON-HIKING BEHAVIOR (a hiker immediately sees who came to the mountains and who has no business here, sitting in the vehicle, talking, walking around, one standing aside observing,...), mandatory note down reg. plate, make and model, color of vehicle, number of persons and report this data immediately to 113!!!

Perpetrators have the advantage that they come from somewhere else (at home we caught them and they don't break in here anymore, so they go elsewhere), break in and leave immediately and it's practically almost impossible to track them, or later prove the criminal act, as the victim usually discovers the break-in only a few days after, when it's hard to do anything anymore.

Don't leave valuables in vehicles!!!

I myself have encountered gypsies from Bela Krajina in Vrata, their hair stood on end when I asked if they're going hiking with me, they left immediately.

good luck and safe steps, Muša

The best would be to set up a car with a camera on the seat as bait, hide and wait. When he breaks in, grab him, take him to the top of the north Triglav face, then let him jump.
There will be no more in Vrata.
If there was a police car parked in Vrata, Krma, Pokljuka, it would be quite peaceful.
This is how the parking lot in Vrata should be guarded1

Oh you damned gypsies, now I'll really be more careful. Ah what, wherever I go I'll record the events (photograph cars and people and constantly call 113).
But I'm afraid I'll have trouble recognizing gypsies of gypsy and non-gypsy appearance, I'm a bit fascinated how they teach you in criminal school to manage that. The solution would be for you to come and catch them like at home, so that we too ("where Kekec lives") have peace and whole cars.

Last time we caught some in the Trenta area, they drive a wine-red Mercedes SUV LJ...they break in with a screwdriver mostly on the front right door, so I suggest you watch for that, usually you can see from afar that it was broken into, because they do it extremely roughly. Of course they also post a lookout from the direction towards the end of the valley. Professionals take only cash, because it's almost impossible to prove stolen, other items very rarely. Impossible for police to cover all valleys and parking lots, so individual vigilance will be very useful.

Today I went from Iški Vintgar to Krim at 9:30 back at 12:15.
In that time someone broke into my car.

Be careful with things you leave in cars. Even better if there are no things in the car, because a colleague left a jacket on the seat, under it a phone and wallet.
Yeah, the world is going to ...

I think wallets and phones really should not be left in the car, even hidden, since that precisely attracts thieves. No hard feelings.

I think one should leave wallet on car roof, set camera on nearby tree and give strict prison sentence to crooks. Plus be stricter to criminals so get rid of them early in their profession. In the past there was no such thing, today human rights, so it's worth stealing.
