If anyone's interested, here's what I messed up:

A few years ago, I went with a group of friends to Prisojnik from Vršič. It had only been a few months since a long period of inactivity due to small kids. I had some fitness already, but above all, a strong desire to get back into the mountains, so I joined even though I didn't exactly know what awaited me.

They told me about 2-2.5 hours.. yeah.. they were all marathon runners and super fit...

In the end, the ascent took a good 4.5 hours and I reached the top almost without strength. A few meters (!) before the summit, I slipped on a loose rock full of scree, and if I hadn't had the reflexes I did (I really clung to the rock like a cat), I probably would have flown nicely off that edge.

What did I learn? That desire can be tempting and lead to wrong decisions. I should have waited for an easier ascent instead of pushing up at all costs. I knew I wasn't ready for longer ascents yet. Luckily, it all ended well.

Two years ago, I started going to the mountains again after a long illness.. starting on the slopes around home.. barely call them hills. Together with my boyfriend, a complete beginner. Together and slowly, step by step, only as much as we could manage. Of course, past experience helps, but good fitness is key.
Mountains don't run away!

I'd share some insights based on mishaps I've gained from people I've hiked with so far:
- better to carry more fluid with you than too little
- don't overtake the group if you don't really know the path well
- ask the faster ones in the group to adjust to the slower ones
- if you're not up to the path, turn back in time
- avoid darkness if possible
- don't go to the mountains tipsy or worse drunk mežikanje

My experience too, which has served me for over 20 years.
We're going downhill on a steep forest path when a buddy says: look, that's Debu vrh!
I walk, quickly look, at the same time step into a hole on the path and off I fly with my backpack, I only see spruces flying around me. I land among stones in the scree. Scratched, bruised, but nothing serious. Since then I always "plant myself" before looking anywhere. Experience is key!

LG, your example nicely shows how one can mature quickly in the mountains. Your initiatives for debates and serious thinking are truly praiseworthy! I appreciate your progress, which is obvious in many ways!.. and .. -don't look at the Slovenian "foušijo", which unfortunately reflects in some authors' comments who have completely lost the classic honest mountaineering spirit..
For now, I haven't "challenged fate" much in the mountains, as I'm quite (maybe even too) cautious, and of course lady luck has contributed somewhat (with current conditions and overall).
Well, one incident comes to mind when two years ago with my furry friend over Zagon through Kožne towards the top of Stol we were chasing a bear ahead without (at least I didn't) knowing it.. Luck was mainly that despite not having the buddy on a leash, I managed with shouting to "convince" him to somehow stay near me. Photos of fresh tracks in the snow at the exit from Janežev žleb and in Kožne, published on G/L that same evening, confirmed the suspicions.. Well, it would have been right and smarter to have the critter on a leash..

I have nothing against LG at all. When I go to the hills, I don't rely only on his comments and advice (not at all) so they can't harm me. I don't judge him like others either, because I don't know him personally.
Okay, my little blunder:
Already as a complete beginner a few years ago we went via Komarča to the Hut at Triglav Lakes (1685 m). We were mostly well equipped, except one friend who didn't wear mountain boots but regular Adidas. Still he managed okay because he was in good shape. Same with me, but unfortunately none of the other mates, as they were completely "done" upon arriving at the hut. After we all ate and drank (we bought nothing at the hut except a postcard), we had some liters of fluid left because we took a lot with us. I went behind the hut to pee, which was luckily locked, so I returned just in time to see the mates pouring our water reserves into the grass behind the bench. I managed to stop them just in time so they didn't pour it all out, about half a liter remained. In the end they convinced me it was better that way, because the weight of the water was really heavy and back then as an inexperienced fool I probably would have done something similar. Then came the consequences. Already somewhere below Studor, after eating tea sausages, cheese and bread up at the hut, terrible thirst hit us, which didn't let up until Savica, where we drank straight from one of the smaller waterfalls above the viewpoint pavilion (the path from Komarča branches to the viewpoint and is not paid). We filled our bottles and staggered down to the parking lot. The lack of water before salvation was especially tough for the Adidas buddy, for whom descending Komarča caused extraordinary troubles. Down at the car he discovered big bloody blisters.
Lesson? Never go with beginners (or as a beginner yourself) on tours you're not fully up to and without proper gear. And definitely don't pour water away before the end of the tour!jezen

It happened to me on a tour that I ran out of water early and had several hours of fast walking ahead when almost at the start I go to pee like a cow, what was that now, but I was dehydrated like never before. Not just the first time, I also ran out under the Hribarice climb towards 7J but it was still far to there. One day I went from Zadnji Vogel directly to the pasture in Laz, I think, and under Tosc I got to the horse ledges luckily barely made it to the pasture, the ledges had overhangs just enough to fatally injure myself. At the end scree, down 5-7-8m drop. One day I went towards Mangart, choice between path to saddle or via ferrata, of course no gear, no harness, no kit, no helmet but I said I'll go up here, but mistake was irreparable when I was already high up. Others in the wall with full gear and SHOCK for them what I'm doing without gear in the wall, but I could overtake despite some 15 climbers, but they stalled from shock...higher under ferrata end the steepness increases more. From the saddle they watch me, finally I get out to open, along Slo to Mangart and back easier path to Belopeška lakes. One day towards Cojzova hut then to Mlinarsko sedlo, cross Dolgi hrbet, weather worsens, strong wind starts, just a little and I'd fly off the ridge to Jezersko side, after all 4 continue, later lost at Rinke due to extremely dense fog, descend to Turski žleb, then to saddles and back to Jezersko, mountains wrapped in dense grayish clouds. Go winter Triglav, when at Mali Triglav a gust almost pushes me towards Planika, go to summit and back under Mali Triglav already slip down but luckily don't slide far due to dry snow. One day towards Kanjavec already at start slight hip pain, barely reach Kanjavec, what now, pains unrelenting, still far to Savica waterfall source, slowly with lots of persistence barely get back, didn't call GRS because that would be shame for me. Go towards Kanin but scared of Kanin peaks top in torn snow better observed from afar, went via valley to cable car, lots of holes, if fallen into one wouldn't find me easily....and many such and other stories

"Hello 112? LG here! Totally got stuck in the north face of Dobrča, cuz I missed Turski žleb. I'm frozen and dehydrated, plus a chamois flew into my head cuz it lost orientation, conditions are really desperate. Tell GRS not to rush to me cuz someone else might get hurt! Just so they know, if I don't survive I'll report later on the forum here, but I'll make it, no panic for us experienced. Courage counts, I go to mountains for myself, don't care what you think of me" hahaha
