Last weekend we dug out Mojčin dom on Vitranc, restocked food and drinks and made track from Lake Jasna and ski slope from Kranjska Gora under Vitranc lift. Snow well settled and frozen since yesterday, mostly bears human weight. On Vitranc ca. 10 cm new dry snow on 1.5-2 m base. Vitranc and Podkoren slopes closed, so hikers and ski tourers can use freely. Mojčin dom already open till Sunday 25 March. Track to Ciprnik visible before last snow and will be renewed by first race.

Hello, please if someone could write from where best starting point for Ciprnik and path well trodden this weekend. Lake Jasna, under Kekec lift or directly under old single chair Vitranc 2? Thanks for answer. LP B

Currently the path under the old Vitranc 2 chairlift is well trodden. You get there via the ski slope which is no longer operating and is still groomed from Kranjska Gora under the Vitranc 1 chairlift or from Podkoren under the Podkoren chairlift. The path from Lake Jasna is the nicest. The track was made on Saturday, then about 10 cm of dry snow fell and partly covered the footprints. The path to Ciprnik is not yet trodden and will be at latest Friday morning before the first competition. Every year about 100 people come to watch the flights from Ciprnik, so no worry that both paths to Vitranc and Ciprnik won't be well trodden. Mojca's hut is open and offers drinks and hot meal. Photos in attachment are from 2016.

The track from Lake Jasna to Vitranc and further to Ciprnik (up to 100m below the summit) is made, where the first visitors could watch the flights in Planica.

I hope it's not a BZ question. "prizup" or maybe someone else - Maybe you have experience how they will regulate traffic on Saturday morning at Jesenice or somewhere closer on the way to KR. Gora. We with the group would go to Jasna, and up to Ciprnik, just afraid of some weird traffic rules. Thanks for the answer.

You just walk a bit longer than usual because there's still lots of snow. I took as long as the signs say.

Nice catch of 'hungry Kekec' with parachute like spider-man over Jalovec

Yesterday Ciprnik was really divine, warm and no wind. On pic 17 that's us, that was the view back

I went today to Ciprnik to check if any ćevapčiči were left. Unfortunately nothing. The hunting path from Planica is trodden, but between TV hut and ridge it's routed straight uphill - because of that it's steeper, same on the ridge towards the top. Since snow is frozen in the morning, crampons are highly recommended - classic, not small ones.

From Jasna to Vitranc OK. But there's a section before the ridge where it sinks in quite a bit, and no more tracks of predecessors visible. Ciprnik itself unfortunately not reachable for us, we gave up last 20m. Reason, deep wading through the belt and quite dangerous conditions in this snow and steepness, snow completely wind-packed. Later a couple people went up after us, don't know if they persisted or challenged to the top. Probably easier for them due to the track already made to before the summit.

hello! from the last post I see that Ciprnik might not be easily reachable this Saturday from Jasna. I had trouble with south snow at the end of Virnikov Grintovec on afternoon ascent. from your experiences, will similar problems await me Saturday afternoon? if I go in the morning, not too early, does the same apply? better to wait for almost dry or proper spring conditions? thanks for help.

Last weekend there was still quite a lot of snow on the Vitranc-Ciprnik ridge. On Vitranc up to three quarters of a meter, higher even more. This week temperatures on Vitranc over 15 degrees, snow melts tens of cm every day. I think this weekend Vitranc will be bare, Ciprnik reachable. Since it's still a snow tour it's necessary to have ice axe and 12-point crampons just in case.

My colleague and I last Saturday around 11 pushed up, crampons wouldn't have helped much more to reach the top, didn't even use ice axe, because we assessed that if the problem is more avalanche of rotten snow than slipping itself, this gear doesn't help much. Personally I'll wait a bit with visiting this peak given previous conditions, but agree with prizup that quite some snow will melt this week. On the other hand, you go up, if you assess it won't go or too dangerous, simply turn around and spend the time you'd take on top elsewhere, or at Mojčin Dom on Vitranc. Good luck.

On Saturday 21.4 we went from Jasna to Vitranc and further towards Ciprnik. In the last two weeks huge amount of snow melted. But we turned around about 20 height meters below Ciprnik summit due to south rotten snow that sank to the waist.
