Clothing for hiking in the mountains

I'm interested in which brand of clothes, namely pants, footwear, base layer shirts, jackets you recommend that are fairly good quality for hikes in the mountains and don't wear out right away and don't soak after trudging through snow and breathe so you don't sweat underneath

Well, I have trouble, I know not much money a bit music but first I bought McKinley windbreaker, I sweated underneath like it was for sweating but when I bought Windstopper from North Face and fleece shirt underneath pulli but still wet inside sleeves and back. When I bought stretch hiking pants from McKinley windproof rain resistant super great but after two days hiking in hills they chafed a lot in crotch worn out so I took back and now I'll get Karibu Sheeler see how it goes. Well that's why I opened this thread cuz I'm interested how you solve these problems and what's worth your money

Pieces of clothing I'm very satisfied with:
- Lorpen and Salomon socks
- Karibu Eskim pants (now among last pieces quite affordable)
- boiled wool (in Promontana for good 20 euros)
- Warmpeace Powerstretch hat and underhat (Kibuba)
- Karibu underwear - from shirts to long johns (bought last year on sale)
- Sensor Doubleface long sleeve shirt (Kibuba)
- Karibu softshell strap
- wool gloves from grandma
- Lowe Alpine Triple Point windbreaker (when no money for Gore-Tex). At beginning held lots of rain, need to impregnate again. Have it about 5 years, then less than 20000 sit - last pieces.
- Trangoworld Nepal Gore-Tex windbreaker - super in winter conditions, in heavy rain not tested yet (bought before new year on sale for 180 eur),
- softshell fleece Salewa - at beginning super, now calls for reimpregnation (year before last, Hervis 100 eur).

All who have them praise Milo pants - Kibuba. Plus usually half price of Karibu pants.

If you buy on sales and browse a bit among last pieces, you can get through much cheaper - still not exactly cheap. But over years you collect all you need (basically more than you need).

Miha

Yeah, today I heard again the phrase mountaineering, alpinism, hiking in the hills etc. isn't an expensive sport. Actually it's true. Gear is a heavy initial financial blow, but once you have it, you have it. No need to change it every year, some things are bought additionally, that's all. Mainly technical gear is expensive (ice axes, crampons, carabiners, systems, ice screws, rope etc..., boots! you know what I mean). If you take the mountains seriously (summer ascents, winter ascents, climbing routes in the wall, couloirs, icefalls...) the gear must be good because your life depends on it. No saving here... That's how I see it. Over the years lots of gear accumulates and when you calculate how much you spent on gear... it floors you. Safety first, comfort second. If you find a combination of both, you've won. The value of the gear is already in itself that we return safely from tours (such and different ones).nasmeh

Geolog, how do Karakorum Pro GTX perform in couloirs and ice climbing?

Icefall will be baptism this year for them, but crampons (automatic) go on like dad on mom. Grip like the devil. Good is that they are warm, protected around with rubber, stiff, and have thick leather. Ideal for me, probably for others too. And the price isn't high. Bought them in May, crossed Reber (baptism) with them, didn't get any blisters!, in between did tons of tours and... fantastic. They're also good for climbing, what more do you want.nasmeh
Today was in couloir in awful conditions, can tell you they performed great, but you gotta get used to them. Heavy over 2 kg.

One more, after full-day tour (15 hours walking) three peaks, in between climbing, scree, rocks, snow... take them off and... poetry. Not exaggerating, most likely the best boot I'll ever have. Sole is replaceable, basically they last (in normal conditions) 5 years. Use them also in summer for harder tours, off-path... lp
Price 254 euros without discount.

hehe, no problem. but when buying them wear them at least half an hour (I wore them for 1 hour and walked around the store like some idiot!)
so your foot settles in, and you can break them in well. you'll see the foot's response. you know, don't rush so it doesn't hurt later! oh, they have a cool lacing system...
la sportiva could hire me as marketing director...velik nasmeh

you'll see yourself, really great shoes!

today I treated myself to thicker hiking softshell pants high from warmpeace http://www.kibuba.com/index.php?cID=2&pID=873
don't know how they are, since I haven't tried them in serious conditions yet, but I think the price is quite good and they seem solid. how they perform I'll report soon. nasmeh
p.s. my humble personal opinion is that for pants no need to pay astronomical sums (400 euros or more) since we can be quite satisfied with pants for 100 euros, or a bit more. milo winter ones though according to my friends' feedback are not good winter pants.

I wear just regular clothes to the mountains. Last year I FIRST reached 12 goals, never hiked before. This year already one in winter conditions (Kam.sedlo 3.1.2010) and in regular clothes. I'm a student and can't afford just like that gojzarje for 200-300 euros or a jacket for 400 euros. Just the other day I saw in mayi a jacket for 400 euros too much. I got gojzarje for little money and they're ok, no other gear. But I have a bit different approach to our mountains, I choose easier paths according to gear and of course with lots of desire and not like some who go just to shorten time. I must say, this year I already walked 50 km one way in our hills, mountain heights from 1800-2240 m) and I only slipped slightly once really every step I do deliberately and carefully, since actually every step can be fatal in the mountains

Geolog79 - I also have these softshell pants high from warmpeace, and they perform very well. Under them I put sensor "double face" and no panic even at -15. So far they haven't soaked me but I have to test their 10,000 mm water column claim once on purpose. If they really hold that then more than excellent buy for 70 EUR. LP

Where could I get gaiters that have a thinner upper part and more durable material around the ankles (because of crampons)?
Not looking for Goretex gaiters.

I only know that don't buy gaiters in kibuba, cuz they suck! in iglu you could check, they have lots of choice or in some other store specialized in alpinism... quality costs. what do you mean because of crampons? zmeden
