I am currently studying geology. The literature would come in handy. Otherwise I also count Greben Peči as the start of K-S Alps and Dobrča of course.

Check the literature by prof. dr. Buser, that's our bible. Also the guide to the Slovenian geological trail will clarify a lot for you, not to mention dr. Maria Pleničar (between Jelovica and Karavanke). Can't forget Šifrer either, although he dealt with neogeology. Quaternary development of gravels in Gorenjska, etc., etc... there's literature for more than enough time to get the basics... definition from geological terminology dictionary: Karavanke, mountain group that is the eastern continuation of the Carnic Alps, lies between the Klagenfurt basin on the north and the Sava (tectonic) fault on the south and is divided into Northern and Southern Karavanke by the Periadriatic fault zone of the tonalite of the Central Karavanke. how far they extend is not even mentioned, because the border is a matter of eternal arguing of academics and self-interpretations...

Yesterday I ascended to Dobrča from Brezje near Tržič, past the famous Poldetova klopca. At the hut despite sun at 3pm -7 degrees Celsius, obviously the modest snow cover will hold for some more time.

Hi, can I ask if the path to Dobrča from Brezje near Tržič is well trodden? How much time does it take up to Dobrča and down? Thanks! Kamila

The path is normally passable. Crampons recommended. To the top marked 2h Hut open all weekends

Today from Brezje near Tržič, past Bistriška, Breška and Lešanska planina to the top of Dobrča. Path well trodden and on this side except sledders who don't go beyond Bistr.pl., no crowds, Hut open, food excellent-checked . Weather super...

When there's no time for more, Dobrča with "respectable" almost 1000m "elevation gain" is a good fitness tour. We started in Brezje near Tržič, directly to the top, and obligatory 5-min extension to panoramic Šentanski vrh, back detour past the hut. Until about half past ten clear skies, then first clouds started gathering, over the Julians even earlier. Snow starts approx. at summit-hut junction, few cm new on hard icy base, so some caution needed. In the "valley" between Dobrča summit and Šentanski vrh can sink to knees. In lower part of path and at hut real spring: flowering from hellebores, winter aconites, spring and white crocuses, hepatica, spring snowflake and hepatica nobilis. Really nice.

I'm wondering if crampons are needed for Dobrča, I'd go tomorrow

lp Dobrča was already almost dry last Sunday except the last 15-20min. Accessible from Brezje direction without crampons with some care!

Does anyone perhaps know if the hut on Dobrča is open 28, 29 and 30.4. (Wed, Thu, Fri). And I can't help praising the good offer and friendliness in this hut! Best regards everyone.

“Potato” holidays are coming to an end, so we used today's nice day for a family outing to Dobrča. We drove a bit higher to Bistriška planina (road is dry and normally drivable), then to the summit and then for even nicer view to Šentanski vrh. Descent to the hut (which was already open today) for late lunch and back to start. Day wonderful, sunny, no clouds, windless and extremely warm, plus very few visitors. If going with kids, at least for them recommend gaiters – trudging isn't fun, but they prefer to walk and jump everywhere where chance to sink deepest .

Today I couldn't go anywhere more seriously into the mountains (no transport). So I did a short training to Dobrča from Brezje. There was a huge crowd, snow just enough to ruin my result. Still quite enjoyable - the day was really nice.

Today the weather due to fog on Dobrča wasn't exactly friendly, but the staff in the hut was all the more friendly, food "yum". Good to stretch bones from work week! I can hardly wait for snow to fall and return at the first sunny winter idyll up there.

Today's conditions were very good. Maybe lacks a bit of snow so as not to feel rocks below. On top sun appeared. In hut friendly staff and good jota.

I haven't dared to go mountain running for two months due to illness. Today I went the classic way to Dobrča along the ridge. Up to Poldetova klopca it's dry, further to the hunters' hut there's still no snow at all, but it's icy. From the hunters' hut onwards there's enough snow to run normally again. Otherwise, the wind blew us pretty good on Dobrča today.
