Yesterday 6 paragliders set off from Dovje towards Dovška Baba. The path was nicely passable with snowshoes. The weather served us well, although it started closing in with fog towards the top. We had to do the launch at 1700 meters.

The whole morning I watched the beautiful blue sky above Dovška Baba from the ski slope in Mojstrana, which made me decide to go to it in the afternoon. After lunch Iztok joined me and together we headed to the path above Dovje. We left the car at the hydroelectric plant and took the summer path through Goreljše towards the saddle and to the Dovška Rožca pasture. We shared the path with hikers and our choice wasn't very successful, as the path is heavily potholed, which greatly hinders climbing with skis. On the Dovška Rožca pasture fog caught us, so we gave up the summit itself today. On the ridge we checked the conditions towards the saddle between the pasture and Kepa, where we noticed a large slab avalanche that had slid to the mentioned saddle. We descended within the summer path through the forest, where there was a mix of some kind of crusty snow and ice crust, which greatly hindered zigzagging through the forest. Because of the crust we continued the descent on the road, which turned out to be a good, safe and fast option to the valley. LP Andrej

This morning we still didn't know which mountain to climb, then the path took us to the hydroelectric plant below Dovška Baba. Early in the morning it didn't look too promising, but during the morning the sun peeked through the dark clouds onto the snow and made our path to the top nicer. The snow was nicely frozen so it didn't sink too much while walking. Planina Dovška Rožca is just perfect for martinic-ing in the warm sunshine. Miha and Janez

Hello. Tomorrow I would head to Dovška Baba, so I'm interested in what the conditions for walking are like in this area. Do I still constantly need winter gear, how far can you drive with a vehicle. Thanks for answers and LP

I was on Dovška Baba on Sunday. Start from Dovje along the marked path to the saddle, where you return to the road and along the forest road to Dovška Rožca and further to the top. The snow was rotten, sinking if you stepped just a few cm off the track. So, trodden, winter gear wasn't needed, but it was present in the backpack. I descended along the road with a few shortcuts, the road is snowy quite low, so better to leave the car at the DB-Kepa junction above Dovje. But that's almost a week ago... LP B

Just enough time in the morning to hop up to Dovška Baba. Leave the car at one of the parking lots on Ravne. Walk along the road for a while then turn left onto the hiking path. The steep ascent quickly brings me to Planina Dovška Rožca, which was all in fog. Immediately continue towards Dovška Baba. At the top it was cold and slightly windy, so I quickly head back to the valley. Nice greetings to all

Hello! I'm interested in the conditions on Dovška Baba, especially if the summit is blown clean so that the logbook box is visible. Thanks! LP

On Dovška Baba we were with a colleague on Tuesday 25.1.2011. From Dovša Rožca hut onwards a track is made, off the path it sinks slightly. Summit is windblown, the logbox was visible. Conditions were good, no need for crampons. For skiing there's probably too little snow. Otherwise it's possible to drive a bit higher from Dovje with a car, where there's a bit more snow. In principle you could also ski up the road to there. LP

Forest road from Dovje is usually plowed to first houses pl.Ravne, but still enough snow on it for ski ascent. Circular path over Mlinca saddle is little visited in winter, mainly occasionally by locals. Dovška Baba visitors mostly use forest road past Bela peč.

No problem, if we know on forum then we advise willingly. For organized groups better to ask additionally locals who go there about path over Mlinca saddle. Path there on summit parts still potentially avalanche-prone, esp with hiker load. Otherwise Dovška Baba is home mountain of Dovje and Mojstrana and track or ski trace quickly made along road through Ravne. Anyway from Ljubljana and generous unneeded drink invite though unrealized stays nice memory. Nice tour and luck!.
