Equipment

yes, it's true.. I've been going to mountains for about 25 years and gear has changed terribly since then.. first backpack had that cover and leather straps.. who remembers it!
But you have to admit today's gear offers huge comfort, clothing, backpacks, boots.. in short everything helps nicer experience. Of course, if you've learned something in these mountains. Safety in mountains starts in the head and ends with luck.

The "instant mountaineering" phenomenon, of course. They go to Igluj, throw a couple of hundreds on the table, walk out with three full bags, read three internet forums and become the greatest experts on safe movement in the mountains and of course equipment, which is the "prerequisite" for such activity. Then at a possible accident they wonder what, how and especially why, since they had all the knowledge and equipment?

Slightly caricatured, but not so far from reality. Then we get to the point where in summer on the southern slopes of Raduha they ask me if I'm normal walking without a helmet, which is a prerequisite for high mountains, and to the fact that on forums we read we're completely irresponsible because in our mountains we don't use self-belay kits, since the fixed ropes were put up exactly for that... then they completely freeze in Turski gully when they hit a torn rope and don't know where to go - lo and behold, descent from the pegs to the scree didn't require even II degree climbing...

Yeah, where are those times when we did a lot in Adidas sneakers. But I have to admit it's still more comfortable and safe at least in low shoes with Vibram sole. And feet hurt less after a strenuous hike. Clothes now are incomparable to previous ones.
But never, really never, does it bother me how someone is equipped. It bothers me much more if well equipped but tackles a tour they're not up to. Even more if someone just "by eye" judges someone inexperienced and "gives advice". Even more if they publicize it on a website and back it with a photo.
We often wrongly judge people by their equipment but know nothing about them. Maybe they don't want changes if they haven't needed such equipment so far.

There's a crisis, snow in the mountains and instructors are just looking for extra income. It wasn't a few minutes ago when I got a comment: if you don't have good equipment then don't go to the mountains.eek

I think there's a lot of ripping off with mountaineering equipment from sellers and multinationals. But if you have full pockets some just "throw out" a bit, especially if clumsy otherwise, even for hill walking. Of course this rip-off is also in alpine tourist offer. Of course they first convinced us that mountaineering is very healthy, live healthy, be fit, eat healthy mountain food (often from Hofer), breathe clean air... that's "IN". Some just when going to hills exchange suit and tie for "dangerous mountaineering equipment", need it or not. Even in hills you have to know where one belongs.

@geppo: Such comments are welcome, it can't always be everything so smooth and without problems. Like in groups, boredom but "always" the debate revolved around equipment when sparrows were already chirping outside. Others' experiences from mountains on this probably no one wants to hear.

Best regards. I'm interested in a winter hike to Kredarica. What all equipment do I need? What ice axe would I need? And what should I wear? I have TRANGOWORLD pants, underneath sports underwear, but what about jacket? I have soft shell vest, will that be warm enough? I have boots and gaiters. What else do I need? roman

In winter you take more equipment to the mountains than in summer even if you don't need it. It's for safety against different snow surfaces, cold, wind, possible emergency bivouacking and so on. There after injury, if you rest, you freeze with poor clothing already in an hour, two. Thicker softshell is best for walking because it breathes, but when you stop it's quickly cold, so it's good to have puffy clothing nearby (loft or down), or at least a jacket that wind doesn't blow through, some extra fleece, warm socks, special winter underwear, wool gloves, goggles, any ice axe is good, crampons, possibly also 2-person bivouac bag. Thermos for hot tea, headlamp, first aid, all that roughly. If you don't have at least approximately that in the backpack, then don't go to high mountains, of course with terrain knowledge and in stable snow conditions. Lp

Given the "sarcastic" question I recommend rather a summer "hike" to Kredaricazavijanje z očmi

You need above all KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE! Proper use of technical equipment, + all that viharnik wrote to you.(add also drinks,(not to mention psychophysical condition) and your backpack is over 10 kg).cool

Roman1234, I apologize for this answer in advance! For the feat you're planning, from your questions I conclude you need one single thing as preparation for the trip you're planning and that's an experienced person who will advise you already at home in your room and check the gear, accompany you on the trip, teach you winter rules on ascents and protect you, and safely bring you down! Your only task is to find one! There are quite a few such who would be willing to teach you and take you up. Believe me after a few such trips you can do some easier one alone and learn from your mistakes and survive. But definitely alone you have no business on such a trip and don't take lightly the descriptions of "old cats" of this forum who like to boast about various exotic ascents, mostly they know what they're doing and what they're getting into, even luck sometimes abandons them. So don't take these written words as lecturing, but as friendly advice, so that we meet somewhere sometime and have a drink alive and healthy. And happy step, above all step by step! My grandpa once said that human wisdom and knowledge is taken with a small spoon and many times!nasmeh

Ask LG if he takes you, you'll do snow profile tests together, and by the way stop by me, I'll lend you a shovel. With such things simply you CAN'T keep your tongue behind your teeth, although it would probably be better if you did.

If I do profiles with an ice axe, there's nothing bad here, except that I convince myself with my own eyes if the slab stays or goes entirely, already because of fear/psyche before an avalanche. The time while I would be doing a profile with a shovel and determining layers, something might surprise you from above, although I do it outside of danger. Do you think someone did it now under Vrtača? I saw only profiles from training under the hut at Zelenica, down on the board it was 2nd degree.
I removed 2 pictures because some were mocking, we learn from mistakes and not yet from rules.... here you have one to gnaw bones on, wonderful day.1

Maybe it really is time to attend some training, because it's obvious that you have no idea what you're doing. And take it as you want, it's well-meant. Given that you obviously have a fan club that follows you and unfortunately also imitates, do it for them and not for yourself.

I see the debate is hot. Based on all previous writing I'd like to get a well-meant comment if I have appropriate equipment, namely I have 12-point crampons and ice axe (photo). With this gear I go on paths that I can manage: Šentanski plaz, through Jalovec couloir to top of Loška stena, Pripravniška grapa, Velika Mojstrovka, Stenar, MDV,VDV, southwest couloir on Viševnik (from before Jezerc), Kredarica from Krma,... In ideal conditions I'd like to go to Triglav with this gear too.
