Hike across Pohorje

My colleague and I plan to go across Pohorje during the Christmas holidays. We are in excellent physical shape, but we will be happy for any advice and the usual course of the trail!

Thanks and have a nice day!

Nicely described traverse of Pohorje on p. PZS-mountains of northeastern Slovenia, although summer variant, still good tip.nasmeh

In winter Pohorje is occupied by skiers, try to avoid ski areas and definitely include in the traverse Šumik waterfall with primeval forest, Black Lake, Lovrenška Lakes, Jezerski (Ribniški) Peak... It can be a nice tour. Enjoy, š.

In summer I went with friends from Bolfenka to Kop. The path is extremely pleasant, wide, marked. We slept at Areh and then the second day from 5:30-16 walked to Kop. For a winter hike I would decide based on the experience of the summer path.
Areh - Klopni vrh - Pesek. This path is without special elevation strains and could be done in snow too. Just a warning - in summer we met hikers only 1 hour from the nearest hut and 1 hour before the nearest hut. This may mean having to break trail in the snow and physical fitness is required for that. The previous advice for visiting the waterfall is good - just take at least two more hours (Areh - Klopni vrh - Pesek we walked in good conditions in 5:30 hours, while also picking some mushrooms on the way - no major stops!! I wish you a nice path and hope I helped you a bit, otherwise, ask more!

And don't forget, in snow the mentioned path can be very demanding orientation-wise!

I agree, though I have no winter hike there yet. But I know that winter conditions are completely different from summer and also require a different approach to hiking. We too in summer missed despite rich markings and did not go towards Osankarica but ended up on the path to Klopni vrh - but that presented no problem then - in winter maybe (if much snow)!!

In the vast Pohorje forests, you can quickly get lost. Study the path and it'll be ok. Lp Franc

Correct, it's much easier if you know the path in summer conditions - first time winter, quite something!! (otherwise, not meaning to scare)

Yesterday my brother and I traversed POHORJE in one go, from Maribor Cable Car (05:55) to Slovenj Gradec (21:00) (Areh, Pesek, Lovrenška lakes, Ribniška hut, Črni vrh, Grmovškov dom and Slovenj Gradec)
From Grmovškov dom to S.Gradec we ran, and it rained the last hour, so the tour was additionally spiced.

Yes, that's true, for those beauties on POHORJE you need more time, at least two days if not three, thanks for the congratulations.

Today my son and I decided to hike the trail from Areh over Klopni vrh to Koča na Pesku and then back to the car we left at Areh, with nice weather forecast.
For hiking both ways we took 8 hours with short breaks, considering we really walked fast, otherwise the trail is much longer time-wise.
There are quite few hikers now, but many more mushroom pickers who boast about their considerable yield.

Warning:
The hut at Klopni vrh is currently closed due to renovation.

Yesterday my husband and I went from Maribor (Tuš store at Tabor) to Pohorje. We went along the upper path past the ski slope, app bolfenka to Mariborska koča and down the southern path. I must say the southern path is quite muddy, huge water flows outmežikanje In the upper part there is still quite some snow. Sooner or later we'll return to hike some more Pohorjenasmeh

And does anyone know if Koča pod Kremžarjevim vrhom is open on weekends?

I'm planning one weekend to hike Pohorje from Maribor Cable Car to Hut under Kremžarjev vrh, sleep there and second day back. At Ribniška koča we'll make a pause. How many hours are needed to hike Pohorje from Cable Car to Hut under Kremžarjev vrh? Around 12 hours? That's 25 km one way, right?

Yes, last year 25-26 April my colleague and I went from Maribor to Slovenj Gradec. Because there was still lots of snow (don't know how now?), we went past quickly in two days. You need to watch the signs! Given the bike path from upper cable station to hut on Kremžarjev vrh is 75 km long, hiking path probably not much shorter. link: Pahttp://www.maribor-pohorje.si/datoteke/struktura/Kolesarska_karta_Pohorje.pdf
