Pohodni, congrats. I see it can be done nicely in one day too. I didn't do the planned hike due to lots of rain the week before and was skeptical because of mud. So I postponed it to July. I was on Golica though, where it was also very nice. Will report back when the Pohorje trail is done.

Thanks for the congrats. True, feet hurt quite a bit at the end of the trail and some blisters appeared. Lp.

Very nicely described and pictured trail, Leon81. I agree exactly with everything you wrote. I too have hiked individual sections and admired a large part of Pohorje in all its beauty. I would add that I also notice that a considerable part of hiking trails is turning into motocross tracks, and I meet quite a few quads. These latter cause the most damage to paths and with their noise chase away wildlife and disturb the peace of Pohorje. Cyclists don't bother me as much since they don't cause special noise. Lp.

Yes, since I have read many places on the internet that there is trouble with motorbikes and quads, I prepared myself mentally for it. But as said, there were none on the section. As for the trail, it is quite damaged in some places by foresters too, but no complaining here; they have their work. In any case, I hope that future generations will also find genuine contact with nature on Pohorje.

On 03.07.2010 I set off across Pohorje. I started in Hoče at 04:00, walked in the dark almost to Mariborska koča and then continued over Areh, Klopni vrh, Pesek, Lovrenška jezera, Ribniška koča, Grmovškov dom, small and big Kope, where a strong thunderstorm with hail caught me to koča pod Kremžarjevim vrhom. Here I changed clothes and continued the path to Slovenj Gradec, arriving at 17:30. Net walking time was 12 hours, the rest I spent along the path, at huts and at Lovrenška jezera. The path was very nice and a good tour for building fitness for summer tours in the "high mountains". Up to koča na Pesku I met no hikers, maybe because it was a weekday, between Pesek and Lovrenška jezera only one couple, then between the lakes and Ribniška koča somewhat more people and between Ribniška koča and Slovenj Gradec no one again. Also on the path I met no quad drivers nor motorbikers. Since I currently hike a lot in Kamniško-Savinjske Alpe I didn't manage to report. Well, now I have found enough time to fulfill the promise to report when this path is behind me. There were some photos too, but there are already so many on the web that there is nothing new. Good luck!

Hello, I'm interested in the path across Pohorje. Especially the path starting at Mariborska koča and ending at Grmovškov dom on Kopah. Does anyone know approximate times from hut to hut, and where would be most suitable to overnight, since we're going for two days. Thanks in advance for all useful suggestions and info Best regards, Jure

Jure we started: - Bolfenk - Areh :cca.2h ( overnighted at Areh / Pesek occupied ) - Areh - Šumik - Klopni vrh - Pesek : cca. 5:30 Pesek - Grmovškov dom : cca. 4h In between picked mushrooms. We didn't rush nor walk slowly ( medium ). 1 hour for lunch at Pesek. Best to overnight at Pesek ( if you get a spot ) or at Klopni vrh. That's at least halfway ( around there ). Regards Very nice path! Regards

For all seeking info, let me add my experience; 1st day - Start in SG, along marked hiking path over Kremžarica, across Kop to Ribniška koča, where I overnighted. Walked slowly with breaks approx. 7 hours. 2nd day - past Lovrenška jezera, over Pesek to Klopni vrh, got a bit lost 2x, on path 6 hours. 3rd day, past Šumik, Areh, Bolfenka to Snežni stadion, walked approx. 8 hours. Highlights for "non-hikers" to help planning and not getting lost: - times on signposts are only approximate and net walking times (without breaks); - red lines on trees are not some new - or maybe Austrian - markings, but are forest boundary marks - don't follow them - look for circles!! - offer at huts is very good, everywhere they offer something hot to eat, recommend fruit, nuts, chocolate bars, sandwich for reserve in backpack - At Ribniška koča and Klopni vrh where I overnighted, no need for your own bedding - elsewhere - don't know. The path is gorgeous, varied, quite solitary at this time. Just gotta get going!! regards

I "obligatorily" recommend a map to everyone for crossing Pohorje. I used it a lot on the first hikes (despite markings and signs) and it would be hard without it. Regards
