Hike across Pohorje

Print
Janezs1. 05. 2014 22:09:11
We decided to hike the left and right banks of the Drava, from Dravograd via Košenjak and Kozjak to Maribor and across Pohorje back to Dravograd. After crossing the Drava we headed straight to the lower station of the cable car and tackled the slope of Pohorje. Around 23h we could finally relax, now a more gentle path lay ahead. Each lost in their thoughts. Soon we find ourselves by the Majland stream. A shower surprises us too. We quickly cover up and overcome the steeper part to the road where we choose the path over Tri žeblje. Uroš is a bit worried, but I reassure him that Romana and I walked a scouting tour here a few days ago. By Pesek the rain had also stopped. Dawn was breaking, giving us new strength. From Pesek onwards the ground was very wet. Good thing we were walking in daylight here. We hurried towards Ribniška koča, as an ordered breakfast awaited us there (best to rely on ourselves). After refueling we continued towards Kope. At Kremžerica a drink is welcome. Then along Šisernikova path towards Dravograd. Below the Ošlovnik farm an unpleasant incident happens to us. A personal car with a wide trailer for transporting horses and livestock knocks Uroš down. We quickly recovered from the shock, helped him to his feet and tended to his visibly swollen ankle. Uroš, without complaining, limps with us to Dravograd. Our pleasant company lasted until Celovec. There Uroš packs his things into his car and drives off, over Ljubelj to the other sidenasmeh, I was quite tired and that on Labor Day

I also want to go across Pohorje this year - planning to go with a colleague, but since we haven't done it yet, it would be great if someone who has been there and knows the path joins us... nasmeh you can message on zs if there's a candidate (maybe I won't see it right away, as I'm not here often mežikanje) For starters we can arrange just a quick trip to Pohorje if you're from MB... regards

@planika77 I recommend following the Running forum. They talk a lot more there about crossing Pohorje and similar things.

I went across Pohorje to Dravograd during the week and can say there's still a lot of snow, but it's not problematic. It starts from Pesek onwards. Bigger "issues" are caused by wet terrain and mud, which starts already before Šumik.

Thanks, Nino, I'll follow it! nasmeh So mid-May is probably still too early, mud will likely remain if there's still snow now, right?

Depends on the plans. Time limit, footwear, fitness etc.

I think it's already a suitable time now for crossing Pohorje but you need to prepare for wet terrain. Especially Pesek - Kope section.

MarijanB gave you a great suggestion but 3 days for crossing Pohorje is in my opinion too much.

Oh, I really like the three-day tour, because I like to enjoy nature and where it's beautiful, there's no point in rushing... nasmeh Otherwise I think two days would be perfectly optimal, but three days is also an option... Thanks for the link, Marijan!

Yes, two days are really enough. Success is to make it in one day! Worth putting in some effort, anyone up for it let's go??? I'd repeat this tour right away, happily...velik nasmeh

11.7.2015 from Kop to Areh, from Areh a friendly local drives us to the cable car, as I understood from the first picture description, due to late start we ran out of time, last gondola leaves to valley at 19., last train to Celje at 20. On the way no special features, except minor blisters. For the whole path with stops (1 hour), we needed 12 hours.
Kope - 5:30, as it turns out later too late a start.1
Velika Kopa2
Črni vrh - highest point of Pohorje - 1543 m3
At Ribniški we drink coffee.4

Šiklarica - 250 m descent from Ribniški vrh8
Lovrenška jezera9
After just under 5 hours at Pesek10
Šumik - to here from Pesek we needed 3 hours11
to Areh another almost 2 hours12

Soon I'd head across Pohorje from Maribor direction to Kop via Rogla, wondering if anyone here has walked it already. It would be a two-day tour.

Hello!
I've decided that next year I'll go on a hike across Pohorje. I'll go along the Slovenian transverse path (do you suggest another path?). But I don't know exactly where this path goes. So, please provide the path description, length, difficulty and your suggestions.
Thanks for all.
Best, Luka

Hello.. searched the web but found nothing useful. Please provide info. Plan is to cross Pohorje from MB to SG. Since I'm not from those parts, asking where best to leave the car? Have return transport, but need to know where in MB best to leave car for two days..

Hello,
with my husband I'd cross Pohorje, but in 3 days, so I wouldn't do more than 20 km per day. Please advise us if it's possible or where around 20 km it's possible to overnight. Thanks. Tina
