Many thanks everyone for info and photos. For this Šisernik hike and this path I really didn't know and will definitely join it for the first time this year because I'm interested. Then for a nice weekend I'll gladly do the crossing either from MB to Dravograd or from Dravograd to MB. Depends on public transport and connections.... I'll post this crossing also here on this portal, with detailed pictures, especially this path section in the Dravograd area, so other hikers will have easier work and will have detailed info. Interesting that under mountains list if you select hut on Kremžarjev vrh, approaches only from SG are described, none from Dravograd, really sad. I'll take care of it, promise that climbers, hikers and others will be better informed, especially those not from Carinthia and don't know this path. Really thanks again everyone for info and see you at traditional hike on Šisernik path. Uroš

3 weeks ago on Črni vrh from Ribnica permanent snow cover started above 1000m. Snow about shoe deep and locally hard or crusty.

Nice greeting. Last year I had quite a few problems with hut openings west of Rogla. It was Monday early June, so still slightly off the main seasonal schedule. Don't know when you plan to go, but suggest calling to check how they operate and till what time they'll wait for you. For two nights I'd suggest very early start from Maribor to hut on Pesek, where last year I got info staff available till 18:00. Second day probably enough to hut under Kremžarjev vrh, from there next day to Dravograd. From Dravograd to Maribor several trains daily, but changes on weekends, so best do hike Sat-Sun when all huts open and end Monday in Dravograd.

We started in the afternoon from MB and first slept in Ruška koča on Areh, second day in Ribniška koča. Definitely recommend advance booking, not for crowds but so they know you're coming. In Ruška koča we were alone and if we hadn't said we're coming, probably arrive at 20:00 to closed hut. Last day descended to Slovenj Gradec, bus to Dravograd then train to Maribor. Mariborska koča definitely closed Mondays.

Is it possible to sleep at Šumik?

This weekend I hiked the Dravograd-Maribor variant. That is, via the Šisernikova path from Dravograd to Kremžarjev vrh and then on to Kope, Pesek, Šumik, Areh (2 days). The path is not well marked everywhere. For Maribor folks, a good train option (at least on weekends) to Dravograd (Prevalje), a nice hour ride, you start hiking just before 9, the path starts practically at the station. This solves transport issues which are otherwise not great and no need to chase the return ride. But the path is tougher from this direction. It is not yet possible to sleep at Šumik, but they are working on it. It is always best to call the hut ahead and say the approx arrival time.

Do you maybe have a GPX track of that path you hiked? Especially first part to Kope interests me, to gauge km and route, since I'll have dog and kids with... Where did night catch you or where did you sleep and did you 2nd day end at Belviju and go with gondola to valley or walked to valley?

ribic: uploaded track to portal https://www.hribi.net/gps.asp?sledid=700 First day to Ribniška koča, 30.8 km walk, i.e. from shortly before 9 in the morning to 20:00, with drinks at huts etc. Ascent 1874 m, descent 779 m, in short a good hike. Track mostly on path, maybe 2 short detours first day. As I said, some places strangely marked (nothing), some nice signs and (Š). One junction even across pasture, strung by shepherd. Anyway to Kope quite steep. Second day to Areh, 30 km track to road above Šumik. Then private transport, otherwise arrival in valley in dark

Yes, for tourist hiker quite a chunk in two days. Three-day example: 1.Dravograd-Hut under Kremžarov vrh = 17.5 km 2...Kope-Ribniška koča-Pesek = 24.1 km 3...Bajgot(Šumik)-Areh-Bellevue = 24.5 km then gondola or 3 km extra joint pleasure water plenty along path anyway

Today finished a three-day hike from SG to MB. Route to SG: 5.20 in MB on train to Dravograd 5.80 eur, 7.38 in Dravograd on bus to SG 2.30 eur. The path is mostly well marked, I only wandered between Pesek and Šumik because I didn't want to detour to Klopni vrh. Eventually found the path. Torrential waters and foresters have destroyed many hiking paths on the route. Some places it's like walking in a dry stream, just rocks, soil washed away by water. Otherwise slept at Ribniška and Ruška hut, paid 40 eur at both for one half-board + morning coffee and drink on arrival (not PD member).
