Hiking boots

tol: Regarding hiking boot sizes it's like this: if they did it like climbing shoes, there'd be even more confusion. Some climbing shoe makers already factor in that the shoe should be one (or two for pros) size smaller than the actual foot size. Meaning size 45 climbing shoes are actually 44. But since not everyone does that, the confusion is even bigger. If they did the same for hiking boots, it'd be hopeless IMO. Because for those with narrower feet extra space in front means only blisters. So still with all types of footwear you have to go there and try what fits best. And not in 15 min but keep them on for 2 hours (even if they look at you funny in the store nasmeh ). When nature makes a universal foot, there'll be a universal boot with the right size velik nasmeh

Hi! I'm a proud owner of new winter boots nasmeh Alpina PEAK nasmeh. Today I did a first short hike with them to try. They fit my feet (from heel to toes) perfectly, no blisters or anything, comfortable, but that part above the ankle...hard, hard and hard again, it hurt me worse than walking in tight ski boots, came home with completely red skin....does this happen to anyone else with this boot (Igorf or Izigov, I think they wrote they have it) or with another? Is it normal? Will I "soften" them in the upper part over time? Can I rub them with something to make them a bit softer? 100x thanks for your opinions and experiences.

Alpina PEAK were my first boots, the part above the ankle didn't hurt at all even the first time I put them on and walked about three hours. Since they're quite high I was afraid of exactly that and took old boots with me (past experiences...). The only feeling with proper steps was like walking with logs, but that wears off quickly anyway and then you feel every little pebble. I like exactly that they're a bit higher and have three buckles above the flex point, as I have a feeling of complete carefreeness for the ankle when walking.
I never rubbed anything to soften, wear-in did its job. I'll never forget some Alpina boots from about 15 years ago (winter-black), when I almost threw them away because my whole foot hurt so much that I couldn't finish the first 5-6 hikes without changing to old ones... .
Don't worry, if they fit well in the foot (and that's important), the top will break in.
Just make sure to clean, dry and spray them, they'll serve looong.
(I've replaced the third sole on mine, and they're still "almost" like new.)

I'm also owner of a second pair of Alpine Peak (still use the first pair for less demanding hikes even though the sole is a bit worn they're still very usablezavijanje z očmi) for demanding ones new this year. The first pair was women's model, doesn't exist anymore. Difference is slightly wider boot, which still fits my foot ideally. They never squeezed or blistered me at all. With completely new second pair we went to Triglav - day trip without any issues.nasmeh (had them on only half hour at home for trying)mežikanje I know there's a liquid for softening leather (called Softy I think) ask in shoe store. I once ruined one that way, put too much on new formal shoe.

so you don't think it's impossible to twist your ankle in gojzars, unfortunately it happens too, 2 or 3 pins don't have a significant role in that.....

Of course it can twist and even break.
But the "threshold" is not the same, with stronger and higher boot; of course with other factors: properly laced, properly warmed up and strengthened joints and muscles, appropriate fitness, etc. (Even a good sports car flies off the road when you exceed its physical threshold - which is probably not the same as with Nivabig grin).

Recently I heard a good one from a mountaineer: "do you know which three worst tyrants were in the world?"; "hitler, stalin and koflach"

Nice greeting, currently I'm buying plastic boots Scarpa Omega, so I'm interested if they have any flaw, or how is it with the size, does it match the actual or do I need to buy one size larger?

I think the size is quite standard. They shouldn't be too big or too small - half a size larger than the foot, so that when using crampons we don't hit the front cap of the boot.

I bought La Sportiva Karakorum Pro GTX, took them home before the trip, looked at them a bit and saw that the eyelets for the laces are arranged sideways a bit here and there, in the leather above the rubber there was a small hole, the back heel part was straight on one boot and sideways on the other. For the trip I had to take the old Alpina, after return I complained in Igluja. There they made a report and after a week a new pair arrived, to my surprise even more messed up, on both boots on the leather heel part big hole and marks from some teeth. When I showed it to the saleswoman she immediately refunded the money and to my later question if it's a defect she said the importer says it's no defect. Then I took a display boot from the shelf and immediately saw new mess, namely the rubber on leather had a big bulge like a blister. I showed that too and got answer that I'm the only one who complained about La Sportiva. Out of three pairs all had defects! Now I'm wondering if La Sportiva is a crappy company or if here we sell defective goods or Slovenian buyer buys everything just to boast that he has fancy La Sportiva?

I'll use this thread. I'm going to buy mountaineering boots, looking at GARMONT AZIZONA GTX at Hervis price 129€ and PLANUKA TIEGLAV PRO PRICE 139€, I'll use them for Slovenian mountains including Triglav. What's your opinion on these two mountaineering boots?
