Hiking boots

I have bad news, because I bought La Sportiva. Indirectly I influenced the poorer sales of quality Slovenian shoes from factories Peko, Planika and Alpina. Similar happened with the textile industry of good mountaineering clothes. That's why I think I'm not Slovenian with capital S, but slovenian with small s.
But there are some like LG, Martin4 and others who uprightly support Slovenian products. Regards

Bagi, good comparison of both boots! I'd just add the flaw of LA: the inner part of the boot (looking at walking) is made of two pieces, not one like Tibet, so it started tearing for me already after the first scree. Stones get stuck behind the seam and wear it. Alpina is better in that regard, but it's true that the boot stretches with use and grips the foot worse. Regards, M

I have a bunch of pairs of boots, and I'm most enthusiastic about Alpina VX953 (otherwise unfortunate name).

Bought them for about 60eur, because they always have sales at Alpina and I have to say for that money you can't get better boots. Otherwise in summer I hike more in approach shoes, in winter in winter gojzars. Mentioned boots mostly used in "dead season" and on long conditioning tours, when terrain in mountains is most harsh on boots, mud, snow patches etc. They hold up excellently after three years.
In my opinion for hiking in three seasons they suffice for approach to any peak here, and even quite a few other things could be climbed velik nasmeh. Of course for more money you can get better stuff, but so much quality for that price no. For ordinary hiker in my opinion they fulfill everything our mountains could demand, saved money can be spent on some other gear velik nasmeh And light too, easier uphill.

+Cheap
+Light trekking boots that take you everywhere
+Hard just as much as needed and no more
+Surprisingly membrane still holds 100% even in full power
+Sole is classic Vibram, holds like any other gojzar
+Slovenian

-No second sole for crampons at back (anyway not winter boots, so no big -)
-Front part of sole not best for climbing (like most other hiking boots have)
-on one boot the edge at tip came off soon (about 1 cm), but thing annoying only visually, and stable for long time

Mountaineering boot is like everything today. Can be cheap or expensive. Both can last a couple years or have defects and then problems. Mainly you have to try as many boots as possible to see how they fit your foot. That's the first aspect, second is use. If you do lighter stuff then no need for La Sportiva really. Of course money matters too. And some like harder heavier boots, others lighter, and person's weight and a bunch of other factors. For winter ones you have to be more careful of course. Some go on rocks even in hiking ones like Alpina Cromo. As for regular Tibets they are not recommended for wet ground with rocks and leaves. Otherwise ok. And leather above foot often cracks inside. So, if they survive new regular sole up and go. Alpina winter boots are anyway just under mountaineering category.

@Busterman

That was a huge discount. Considering that they were new 140€. Now they've obviously stopped making them. VX955, which is almost the same, is still there. Did you use them for high mountains too and all the plastic survived, because I heard it cracks?

Was on the Alpina website. Men's Tibet model no longer available, women's is still. So probably end of production?

Stop complaining that the front part of boots without rand at Alpina gets destroyed. If you run any brand's boot without rand over rocks, it's normal that it'll get scratched. Just buy one that's protected.

Am Shagar, it's not true that the men's Tibet model is no longer offered. I went to check. You can find it next to the women's Tibet model. Both are currently discounted by 30% and have the same price.

@dragon

That is Tibet V, which has a more robust sole. But I mean regular Tibet, which is only women's. Men's is no longer available. Both in brown color. Then there was women's with orange and men's with blue color. And they are no longer available either. Model vx953 is also gone, which is almost the same as vx955 anyway. Peak A is also no longer available, which is again almost the same as "regular" Peak boot. Maybe they'll accidentally make some new cool gojzar.big grin

You're right, but the difference is minimal.

I already have others and also Mangart predecessors. I've had Planika since 1998. Ask what interests you?

I'm curious how the sole grips on rock?

One more thing I need to ask. Is there an Alpina factory outlet in Žiri, or can you buy their footwear there on the spot at better prices? Thanks

Only with a defect.

Hehe. What does that mean more precisely? Can you still get solid stuff? Not asking only for gojzarje, but also for low hiking footwear...

For Alpina footwear, wait for the sale. Every few months they have -40% or even -50%....

@Nogometni fanatik
The boot has a defect. What kind depends. Whether the boot will hold is a question. I got, for example, Peak for 70€, when they had that weekend in autumn with defects and there was a mass rush on Žiri. Now you probably get them there with defect as @ljubitelj gora says. Currently Alpina is actually always on sale. In August, during clearances, it was 40% even 50% low hiking, all types of gojzarjev mostly 30%, some model 40%. Since then I've followed more closely and they just alternate between 25% and 30% discount, but only gojzarje. And in between once in November 30% + 10%. Now everything hiking is 30% (January sale). So August is better. If there's more in between, you have to check the website. In Srna store at Bloška polica you have Planika and Mendl with defect. You need luck to hit one crazy sale.
