A few posts back I compared Alpina Tibet boots and LS Trango Trek Micro EVO GTX. Now I can also compare new and used LS, same model. Due to good experiences with these boots I actually bought another LS pair at a good clearance price. Both have the Made in Italy label. So … the boots in the photos are identical. With the first ones I've walked a solid 200 hours so far, the second pair is new and serves for comparing the upper and lower parts of the boot. Experiences … The sole is already noticeably worn, which was affected by mostly rocky terrain on which I hike and approx. 95 kg total weight that it carries. The wear so far doesn't affect grip much; I still have a good feeling of secure steps. It seems that the rubber compound is quality and doesn't harden as fast as on Alpina Tibet. The upper, leather part of the boot is still fully undamaged. Stitches are intact, protective rubber holds everywhere. The front upper rubber part is understandably slightly chewed, but it doesn't peel off anywhere. With regular impregnation renewal, the boot hardly absorbs water, and the Gore-Tex membrane still holds despite the abundance of salt it has received. The downside are the laces, which untie very easily from the start, but a double knot solves everything in this case. Conclusion … I am still a satisfied user of the La Sportiva Trango Trek Micro EVO GTX model and I don't regret changing the manufacturer. You can read the reasons for the change in my previous post on this topic.

@igor37... Try calling Alternativa. They have Garmont, don't know if they have this model. Usually you can negotiate some discount. Address: Sesljan 40 Tel.: +39 040 291 61 20 They speak Slovenian, if you don't 'speak' Italian

Currently I'm about to buy new boots for the mountains, mine are 10-15 years old so it's time to replace them. Buying in the 80-130 EUR range, mid level to last another good 10 years. What do you recommend? I'm leaning towards Alpina Tibet, I've read Slovenian forums praising them. What do you recommend?

Very hard to get a good boot for that money to last 10 years, unless kept nicely on shelf in closet, and even then not too warm I'm very satisfied with alpinas, but resole every 2 years, full rebuild every 4...otherwise no go

It also depends on how much you hike. I go to the mountains recreationally up to 1500m a few times a month, high mountains maybe a few times a year. I've had boots for a good 10 years now, cheap brand 60eur in the shop, now I want something better, in this range Tibet seems the best to me, down from 170eur to 118eur, but I'm interested in your opinion too, so I'm asking.

The sole will wear out in any case and it will be hard to last 10 years. I changed the sole on my Alpina after three years, and I can say that I hike approximately as you described for yourself. That is, a few times a month in mid-mountains and a few times a year higher up.

Me too, somehow 8-12 hikes per month.. but still... these days footwear is no longer so high quality and wears out faster.. believe me, materials are much worse quality... I also had my first Planika boots much longer than any current one lasts... and I have quite a few.

Come on, don't mess around, you'll have some gojzars for 10 years. If you use them just for digging in the garden, you can't have them for 10 years.

It depends on the month for me.. Usually more smaller hikes of a couple of hours each, otherwise no big deal. I agree that materials are worse yeah, but what I saw is the Alpina Tibet model, which is already several years old and the most popular hiking boot from Alpina in this range, so I hope they kept the materials the same. Otherwise, do you suggest anything similar? Can be another brand too.

Personally very satisfied with Planika. I have almost two sizes larger than foot. They grip nicely at ankle, stand on different terrain and even after ten hours up and down my foot didn't suffer too much. My advice is don't buy too quick. Last time I walked more than half hour in store back and forth before I decided.

Hi "fellow sufferers" Deciding to get some better trail running shoes for summer hill hikes (excluding real mountaineering ascents!) as I want lightest and breathable footwear, cuz hiking in gojzars mid summer e.g. to Stol is a bit too much for me. Actually asking just for info from current owners. Deciding between Salomon Speedcross 3 (88€) / La Sportiva Bushido (92€) Both shoes visually very appealing to me, soles also seem very suitable (as advertised) for more demanding terrain. More interested in durability and comfort. If someone can give opinion I'll be very grateful. Otherwise happy steps. LP

Hi, absolutely La Sportiva, I have low and high, very satisfied. Salomons for me sole gone in half year at three, smallest rock sliced it. Good buy and safe walking.

@Kleemen Actually soles were better at the beginning. What about Tibet V and Nepal? And say VX 955, if more up to 1500 and not in snow. Tibet sole is slippery on wet leaves and rock.

@hrib20, I also got Salomon Speedcross 3 some time ago, but I wasn't too satisfied with them. They have almost no cushioning, and I completely destroyed them in less than a year, so I got these: http://www.tekac.si/novice/8813/la_sportiva_raptor_gtx.html I'm very satisfied with them, but it's true that it depends on what you use the footwear for (hiking, running...) I wish you find what you seek, and safe steps wherever sneakers or shoes carry you

@Am Shagar, what's the difference between Tibet V, Nepal and VX 955? Anyway, from what I've seen, Tibet V is the best-selling boot for the mountains. In this range Vibram also has one, which I had until now and it never slipped except on wet leaves where it always slips if you're not careful. Otherwise VX 955 is visually the most likeable of all for me, but comfort and grip are more important than looks.

Thanks for some comments or help. Basically I favored La Sportiva but two friends with whom we sometimes hike in the mountains both have the mentioned Salomons and I put them in the shortlist only because they always walked bp on all terrains, obviously the grip is very good. I've come to the conclusion to take La Sportiva, as I'll use it only for hiking in the mountains (where it's suitable for such footwear), I have other trail shoes anyway (for running, which doesn't interest me specially in the mountains ). Best regards

Hello, I have a problem with blisters on my foot. I bought new boots, namely Planika Jalovec. I've done about 10-15 hikes with them (3-4 hours each) but so far they've always blistered me, specifically behind the heel. On both feet. What do you suggest? If you suggest buying new boots then I'm interested which one would be suitable, because I'm afraid it'll be the same again. And maybe if someone had problems with blisters and solved it with plasters and that gel you apply before hiking on the spot where it might blister you. Does it really help? If anyone has experiences with this. Because I really don't want to change boots

Maybe double socks would help. I also have those boots. For me they are super in all respects.
