Bravo Janez! You've brightened Javorca again with wonderful shots. Obviously the birds are your true friends too, posing so nicely for you. Best regards from the Celje end. Drago

A nice (spring-like) relaxed day towards the end of 2015. We did quite a few nice hikes this year and discovered many hidden things... There's still a lot planned waiting for us, and of course unplanned... which is of course the sweetest...

Drago, I'm so sorry we missed each other yesterday when we were only a couple of meters apart. We watched you trying to cross the ridge below from Lovska peč and I asked if you needed help, but no one answered. You probably didn't hear me because of the wind. Happy 2016! Best regards and safe steps to everyone from under the beautiful Golt, Janez

Apparently not all wallcreepers go to the coast for the winter, since I photographed one yesterday at the bivouac. Best regards and safe steps to everyone from under the beautiful Golte, Janez

That's true, not all go to the Primorska (karst edge). Some even fly to Hungary, where they swap rock walls for larger buildings like castles, churches. Even here we sometimes encounter such specimens that have adapted to urban environments. There is a small hamlet near Celje where for at least 4 years two individuals come to overwinter (picture below). The wallcreeper is one of the least known or researched birds in Slovenia (similar for most mountain birds). The reason is mainly their hard-to-reach habitat. That's why birdwatchers are always very happy if fellow hikers share their interesting observations of rare birds, like this wallcreeper on the Golte Regards

Ornitolog, thanks for the interesting info. I think there are even more wallcreepers up here. Maybe they also like the view that Javorca offers. From farther away I saw about 4 in December just as they flew off so I'm not entirely sure. I saw one at Okence below the alpine garden around Christmas. I photographed that one while sunbathing on the bench at the bivouac when it flew to the feeder. Best regards and safe steps to everyone from under the beautiful Golte, Janez
