Kalška gora

Yesterday 7th July me and my colleague went to Kalška gora via hunting path at Žagana peč. Path to hunting hut is very steep. There are some fallen trees but they can be bypassed. Further from hunting hut the path is well followable. But when approaching marked path coming from Krvavška direction over krvave mlake you have to watch cairns well as you can easily stray right soon. Return back is not pleasant especially if hot and humid. Last ascent by cables went without problems.

I started today from Žagane peči along the hunting trail. Before reaching the foot of the ridge trail, I got lost twice jezen

, but luckily met some hikers who directed me to the right path nasmeh

and after 7 hours velik nasmeh

finally stepped on the summit of Kalška gora. I descended via Kokrsko sedlo.
Weather beautiful, with great views, only on the ridge trail it was a bit too windy. Quite a lot of snow up top - by my estimate around 30 cm, more in wind-blown areas. In places it sank through quite a bit. On descent to the Cojzova hut, especially on the climbing part, high risk of slipping, as there are icy slabs, or small slabs eek

Yesterday's hike from Kamniška Bistrica (Žagana peč) and traverse of Kalški greben. The path goes past the hunting hut and over Kalce to the lower marked path below Kalški greben. More in pictures...

From here we decide for the marked path under the walls of Kalški greben, or straight up to the ridge

Štruca, Skuta, Kranjska Rinka, Turska gora and Kotliči to the slopes of Brana

the most difficult part of the path - descent to Škrbina

...past the pond Krvava lokev, to the hunting hut and down to the valley

Today to Kalška gora from Konec.
Descent over Zob and pathless to the hunting trail to Žagana peči.
The hunting trail is somewhat eroded by the tooth of time in places, but the marked one is of course no problem.
Weather rather poor, but according to forecast still okay.

Of course without fog today it didn't work

On the Kalški greben there was yesterday 30 cm of snow, frozen in the morning, wet during the day.

I'm just interested if there's any track (because of the markers)..

Kriška pl.- Vrh Korena - Kalški ridge - pl. Dolga njiva - Krvavec. The path is now trackable, markers are rarely visible because covered by snow.

This is an overhanging wall on the karst plateau of Kalce, where there are traces of the former Ovčarije pasture. It's really nice. mežikanje

These were the conditions yesterday on the way to Kalška gora. From the hut to the top of the ridge, the snow is compact all the way and doesn't melt, as the path is shady.

Today from Konc over Kokrsko sedlo to the summit. Snow on the screes below Kalška gora is well frozen, towards the ridge it's already softer. Descended via Kalce towards Žagana peč along the hunter's trail. Towards Kalce the descent is steep, at first soft snow then grass, then walk on snow patches. The path is otherwise trodden.

If you ever crave peace and quiet, take the hunter's path to Kalška gora. For this time of year, real summer temperatures, no one anywhere, beautiful views, what more could one want. Down via Kokrsko sedlo. The last time Metod and I went up here in fog, we really struggled to reach the summit. In weather like today, the markers nicely lead you to the marked path from Kalški greben.

Yesterday on Kalška gora. The original plan was Grintovec, but since I haven't been to Kalška gora yet, I decided at the saddle to go check what the path is like and didn't regret it. Weather conditions were pleasant, as Grintovec, Kočne, Skuta and Turska gora were in clouds and according to visitors strong wind too, but for a change on Kalška gora almost no wind and sunny nasmeh

From Žagane peči along the hunter's trail to Kalška gora, down via Kokrsko sedlo. It was a nice day, a bit cold, just right for hiking. Path without special features, few hikers, only around the hut and in the hut a bit more.
